How do you get research experience when your med school doesn't support research?

Final-year med student at a research-light university in Serbia. I have very little research experience and my university isn't particularly helpful with research opportunities.

I've looked into paid research programmes, LinkedIn opportunities, etc., but I'm wondering how people in a similar situation actually got started without relying on expensive programmes or constantly monitoring LinkedIn.

A few things I'd love advice on:

  • How did you find your first research project with no prior experience?
  • Did you cold-email professors, residents/registrars, researchers at other universities, etc.?
  • Are there good ways to find remote research opportunities?
  • Are there specific organisations/platforms/research groups worth joining?
  • What types of projects are realistic for a beginner to contribute to?
  • How did you learn enough research methodology/statistics to actually be useful?

Also, I'm not comfortable publicly posting my personal email under LinkedIn posts, and I tend to see those opportunities late anyway.

Would especially love to hear from people who were in a similar situation — research-light university + little/no prior research experience.

Affordable Cab Transfers between Belgrade Bus Station and Airport?

Hi everyone!

I'll be travelling from the Belgrade Central Bus Station to Nikola Tesla Airport soon and will be carrying three suitcases, so taking the bus isn't really practical for me.

I'm looking for recommendations for reliable and reasonably priced taxi/cab services in Belgrade that I can use without worrying about being overcharged or scammed. Are there any good taxi apps or companies that locals usually use?

I'd especially appreciate budget-friendly options (the cheaper, the better!), but I'm open to any trustworthy service that you'd recommend.

Thanks in advance! :)

If it helps, I'm a student, so I'm trying to keep costs as low as possible while avoiding the hassle of hauling luggage on public transport.

23F looking to make some new female friends in Bangalore! 🌸

Hi everyone!

I'm originally from Bangalore and grew up here, but I moved abroad for studies around COVID. Since then, I've only been back home for a month or two each year.

The problem is that most of my old friends have either moved to other cities/countries or are busy with work and life (which is completely understandable). I'll definitely catch up with them when I can, but I'd also love to meet some new people and build a fresh circle of friends while I'm in Bangalore.

A little about me:

- 23F

- Medical student

- Huge cricket fan

- Love reading books

- Watch movies and TV shows occasionally

- Recently got into history and absolutely loving it

- Always open to trying new hobbies and exploring the city

I'm based near Majestic, but I'm happy to travel anywhere that's easily accessible by Metro.

I'm only looking to meet other women and this is strictly platonic. Whether it's grabbing coffee, visiting bookstores, watching a cricket match, trying new cafés, exploring museums, or just hanging out and talking about life, I'm up for it.

If you're around my age and think we'd get along, feel free to DM me! Even if we don't have the exact same hobbies, I'm always happy to discover new interests through new people. 😊

My best friend thinks she'll marry a cricketer. She believes in astrology. How do I convince her otherwise?

My best friend, 23F, is one of the biggest cricket fans I have met. She is also very smart and is a medical student, so she isn't a very active fan but a huge huge fan. So much so that many people have casually told her that she will end up with a professional cricketer. They said it for fun, but she has taken it very seriously.

How do I convince her out of this? Because I am concerned.

Or does her chart even support something like that?

She does Believe in astrology, so if I tell her that her chart says it won't work out, she might believe it. But I need explicit reasons to.

Bluetooth option disappeared from my HP laptop (Windows 11)

Laptop: HP Pavilion x360 Convertible 14-dy1xxx OS: Windows 11 Home 25H2, Build 26200.8328 WiFi/Bluetooth Card: MediaTek MT7921 (single chip handles both) Processor: Intel Core i7-1195G7 RAM: 16GB

Original Problem

  • 5GHz WiFi stopped showing up (2.4GHz always worked)
  • While troubleshooting WiFi, Bluetooth disappeared completely
  • After driver reinstalls, Bluetooth came back but only worked for 2-10 minutes before crashing
  • Windows falsely showed earphones as connected even when off
  • Bluetooth toggle disappeared from Settings entirely
  • "Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed)" appearing in Device Manager under Universal Serial Bus controllers

Current Situation

  • Bluetooth section completely absent from Device Manager even with "Show hidden devices" enabled
  • "Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed)" permanently present under Universal Serial Bus controllers — this is the MT7921 Bluetooth component failing to identify itself
  • WiFi still works fine (Status: OK)
  • Bluetooth adapter shows as "Unknown SoftwareDevice" with status Unknown in PowerShell
  • 4 x "Bluetooth Peripheral Device" entries in "Other devices" (ghosts of previously paired devices)
  • Bluetooth toggle completely gone from Settings

Everything That Has Been Tried

Driver related:

  • Reinstalled MediaTek WiFi + Bluetooth drivers multiple times from HP support website
  • Force installed via pnputil: mtkbtacx.inf (ACX framework) and mtkbtfilter.inf (MT7921 specific)
  • Deleted drivers via pnputil /delete-driver oem101.inf /uninstall and oem104.inf, then reinstalled fresh
  • Manually bound MediaTek Bluetooth MT7921 driver to "Bluetooth Peripheral Device" via Device Manager — succeeded but didn't restore adapter
  • Attempted to bind driver to Unknown USB Device directly — Windows said "best drivers already installed"
  • Checked HP support page — two MediaTek Bluetooth driver versions available: 2.22.0.90 Rev.E (Mar 2026) and 2.22.0.13 Rev.C (May 2023). Currently installed version is 1.3.17.168

Windows repair:

  • SFC scan (sfc /scannow) — no integrity violations found
  • DISM (/Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth) — completed successfully, no issues found
  • WMI repository reset (winmgmt /resetrepository) — completed successfully
  • Network reset performed
  • Fast Startup disabled

Device Manager actions:

  • Uninstall/reinstall device multiple times
  • "Allow computer to turn off this device to save power" disabled
  • Scan for hardware changes multiple times
  • pnputil /scan-devices run multiple times

Services:

  • Bluetooth Support Service confirmed running and set to Automatic
  • Attempted to force start bthserv and BluetoothUserService via PowerShell — failed with "no enabled devices associated"
  • Attempted Enable-PnpDevice via PowerShell — failed with error 0x80041001 (WBEM_E_FAILED / WMI failure)

System level:

  • BIOS updated from version 23.1 to 30.1
  • Multiple restarts throughout

PowerShell device refresh script (from Reddit):

  • Removed all Bluetooth, Ports, and Net class devices and triggered rescan
  • This is what caused Bluetooth to go from "unstable but present" to "completely gone"

Current Driver Versions

  • MediaTek Bluetooth: 1.3.17.168 (outdated — newest available from HP is 2.22.0.90)
  • MediaTek WiFi: MT7921 Wi-Fi 6 802.11ax PCIe Adapter (working fine)

Title: HP Pavilion x360 + MediaTek MT7921 Bluetooth/Wi-Fi issues on Windows 11 — Bluetooth disconnects after a few minutes

Hi everyone,

I have an HP Pavilion x360 Convertible 14-dy1xxx running Windows 11, with the MediaTek MT7921 Wi-Fi/Bluetooth card.

This issue started with my 5 GHz Wi-Fi network randomly not showing up on my laptop. My 2.4 GHz network always worked, but the 5 GHz one would only appear sometimes and then disappear again.

While troubleshooting that, my Bluetooth completely disappeared from Windows settings. It wouldn’t even show up in Device Manager normally, only under “Show hidden devices.” Sometimes it gave Code 45 (“hardware device not connected”).

After reinstalling drivers multiple times, Bluetooth started appearing again, but now I have a different issue:

  • Bluetooth works for a few minutes after startup
  • My earphones connect normally at first
  • Then after ~2–10 minutes, Bluetooth disconnects completely or crashes
  • Sometimes Windows still falsely says my earphones are connected even when they’re turned off
  • Sometimes the Bluetooth toggle disappears from settings entirely

Things I’ve already tried:

  • Reinstalling MediaTek Wi-Fi + Bluetooth drivers
  • Network reset
  • Device Manager uninstall/reinstall
  • Disabling “Allow the computer to turn off this device”
  • Disabling Fast Startup
  • Restarting Bluetooth services

Some info about my PC -

  • Processor 11th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-1195G7 @ 2.90GHz (2.92 GHz)
  • Installed RAM 16.0 GB (15.8 GB usable)
  • Graphics card Intel(R) Iris(R) Xe Graphics (128 MB)
  • Storage 196 GB of 477 GB used
  • System type 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor
  • Edition Windows 11 Home Single Language
  • Version 25H2
  • Installed on 14-‎12-‎2024
  • OS build 26200.8328
  • Experience Windows Feature Experience Pack 1000.26100.304.0

Current driver version:
MediaTek Bluetooth Adapter Driver 1.3.17.168

I’ve also seen an “Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed)” warning in Device Manager occasionally.

Any help would be appreciated because I’ve spent days troubleshooting this 😭

I'm an only child, and I've had below-par social interactions all my life, quantitatively. I've also been an introvert all my life, so my social skills are poor are best. I can remember one instance vividly - I was at a neighbour's place for a festival, and a very respectable guest walked in. We were seated on the couch, and everyone around me stood up to greet them. I didn't, initially, because I couldn't catch on to what was going on. By the time I did, it kinda felt like it's too late, so I didn't. And this was when I was 22, so no excuse there as well.

However, I'm looking to work on myself and improve. So, I'd really like some help?

The title is self-explanatory, but if I were to expand, what are some small things that go a long way in friendships? Could be some thing very silly that's often overlooked, or something huge, as well. Anything.

This seems to be the ideal sub to ask this question - how to be a good (rather, a better) friend? What are some small things that go a long way in friendships? Could be some thing very silly that's often overlooked, or something huge, as well. Anything.

(Edit: TL;DR - my friend-turned-apartmentmate and I had a subtle fallout, and now I'm struggling to go about my daily life because of the negativity in my living space. How do I deal with this?)

Let me set the scene for you.

I moved in with a friend recently, and we both have our own rooms. We have been good friends for over 3 years now.

Also, we have lived together in the past as well, but that was around 2 years ago.

Back to the present - we received our electricity and utilities bill, and it was unusually high. The landlord even reached out to me and asked me if everything was okay because this was high. Mind you, the bills in total for the month (per person) was what I would pay for 4 months together normally. And he asked us to be cautious with our usage of electricity. I conveyed this to her, and I was very careful with my words, always saying "we". She agreed, and ever since, something felt off. She never spoke much to me, stopped spending time with me, and so on. It was very confusing and it started messing with me mentally. Turns out, asking to reduce electricity consumption was the trigger point.

Two weeks ago, I get back home to her talking very loudly on call with her mother (I promise I didn't mean to eavesdrop) about how I am a bad friend and whatnot. Things I haven't known for very long, and many twisted words and narratives. I have been quoted completely out of context, my character assassinated, and whatnot.

The irony, however, is that she isn't willing to tell me anything to my face, because when I reached out to her and asked her if everything is okay, she said everything is fine. I even bought her a few things for Easter, and she thanked me. Clearly, she didn't mean it, if so much was pent up.

Now, moving out isn't an option because we have a rental contract for another 10 months, and I can't afford to lose my deposit. Talking it out with her isn't an option either, because she clearly doesn't want to talk. Moreover, in her own words "if people need me to point out where they went wrong, and can't use their own brains, then they needn't change", so.

And the loud calls have continued ever since. I have switched to wearing headphones every time she calls someone, but I still end up (over)hearing bits of it, and that messes with my head. So much so that it spoils my entire day.

Anyone with any similar experiences? If yes, how did/do you deal with it?

I know the sub is about "Bad Roommates", but I figured that this is the best sub for this question, since a majority of people here would've dealt with bad roommates.
So, how NOT to be a bad roommate?
And I would like female-centric advice, if that's a thing? For context, I'm 23F, and I have (and will continue to have) female roommates, or apartment-mates.
