At what point did you trust that your strategy really works and isn’t just overfit?

I have 2 years of backtesting results and one month of forward testing and it all looks good. Would you trust it enough to go live at that point? I’m still a little scared that it’s overfit and the second I go live it stops working but that’s probably just my anxiety speaking

Are there any discord groups for futures trading?

I’m in a few for trading stocks and I enjoy it but I recently started trading futures and haven’t found any discords that are focused on futures. Does anyone know of any groups that are open to new members (and free/just for fun, not interested in signals etc)

What strategy and what asset class do you trade?

With so many strategies out there it can take a lot of trial and error to figure out which strategy works for you. I’m curious which strategy did you end up using and which asset class do you trade?

Expectations leading into midterms?

Looking at historic data almost every mid term year had a dip leading into it. I’m wondering, especially for everyone who swing or position trades stocks if you take this into consideration in your trading? Like selling open trades in advance/not opening new trades and making sure you have enough cash to buy dips or breakouts when we recover? Or do you just wait for the market to tell you to sell and try not to think of the seasonality/assume the sell off is going to happen?

When sandisk is red: what a terrible stock this is going to zero. When sandisk is green: am I too late to buy? It’s the best stock we’ll see 3000 eoy

Seriously wtf. The quality of this sub has gone below zero and it’s always the same.

If you didn’t want it at 1000 why are you asking if it’s too late to buy now? And if you’re only here for a quick trade you should have heard of risk management

If we got a serious market crash and each stock went down at least 50%, which stocks would you buy?

Let’s say you saw the crash coming, went full cash and now have the opportunity to buy each stock you like for a discount, which would you buy?

Has anyone felt the same or am I going crazy?

I’ve been trading for a few months and my plan was to spend all summer trying to improve and work on my edge. Now I have a vacation planned and I’m really not looking forward to it because I’d rather continue to trade and learn instead of live life outside of the charts and potentially missing out of good opportunities.

Is it normal to feel this way? Can anyone relate or am I going crazy?

My thoughts on sandisk for now

I usually hate those kind of posts but I haven’t seen anyone share a take on sandisk similar to mine so I thought I’d share it and I’d love to hear opinions

I think sandisk is entering a period of consolidation that can take a few weeks/months before it will really do something again. It has nothing to do with fundamentals but it’s just how the market works: a sector goes on a parabolic run, eventually gets so overextended that it has to pull back which causes some panic selling/stop losses being hit followed by even more selling, eventually it finds a bottom and starts to consolidate there before it can run again

I feel like we will stay in this range or possibly a little higher for a while and that it won’t quickly run back to 2000+ which I feel like many still expect. Eventually I believe it will get there again but it may take longer than you’d expect

No point in worrying about the pa each day and asking a 100 times why the price went up/down 5%. Just be patient and have faith in the company you’re holding because the fundamentals clearly are still there but it takes a while for the market sentiment to recover.

Does anyone use vwap or ema’s as a strategy alone?

Does anyone trade a strategy that’s focused on those as the main part instead of just deciding a bias? And are you profitable?

I’ve been studying strategies around those and it seems to be a hit or miss so I’m wondering if anyone is actually profitable with those. You don’t have to share the exact strategy but I’m curious to hear what you trade (indices, stocks, forex etc), which indicator you use and whether you’re profitable

Issues with fills

I have been testing my trading bot through traderspost on their own paper account and the alpaca paper account. Now I noticed that on their own account I always get filled but on the alpaca one half of them don’t get filled. I use midpoint limit orders and I was wondering if anyone else has the same issue?

I trade stocks and during times where the market moves quickly so I guess the small delay causes orders not to go through? Would market orders be better?

Any advice is welcome

Has anyone tried trading on vacation? Did you get any problems?

I know the website says it’s ok but I’ve also heard some people getting banned because the account was traded on a location far away so I’d love to hear experiences from people who have traded on vacation with tradeify

Does anyone trade shares on tastytrade? How are the spreads/time to get filled?

Unfortunately they don’t offer a paper account to try it out so I was wondering if anyone can give any feedback on this

What to expect in August?

I started trading in February, I mainly trade orb and have been overall profitable but the beginning of July was terrible. It got better towards the end but I hear everyone say that August is terrible to trade, especially for breakout strategies. I don’t have the tradingview subscription to be able to look at intraday patterns in previous Augusts so I was wondering if anyone who has been trading for longer can confirm this?

Wondering if I should still give it a try or that I should just sit on my hands this month

How long to forward test on a paper account before going live?

To anyone who has moved to live algo trading, how long did you test your strategy on a paper account before trusting it enough to go live? And did you then start with a small amount of money and built that up over time?

Automated trading through webhook or other ways?

Has anyone tried automating their strategy through tradingview with using a webhook on alerts? If so what did you use to connect to your broker and which broker do you use?

Or would it be better to use a brokers own api?
