Chicago Estate Sale Photos - 1930s, 1940s, 1950s
There are many more photos in this collection, and I’m just beginning to parse through the stories they tell.
The Pilgrim, Bohemian National Cemetery, Chicago [OC]
Levenger Furbo Adjustable Reading Table, Fontana Arte Floor Lamp, and a bespoke Vase Mounted as a Lamp
Picked these up over the weekend at an estate sale in the Chicago burbs.
The rolling desk caught my eye at first, and I plan to use it as a WFH station. It has a Levenger sticker on the bottom, made and distributed in the 80s or 90s.
The Fontana Arte floor lamp is also fun - it's a late 90s UK model that was rewired to be US plug friendly.
The bespoke vase conversion lamp was a last min impulse buy, but it's become the most interesting to research. First and foremost, it is extremely heavy.
The lamp shade and the socket have a local lamp maker's name on it. This + a reverse Google image search let me know about its likely vase → lamp conversion origins. I did a magnet test and it has a slight pull at the base, but it has negligible to no pull on the body. I suspect that the base itself was added on along with the shade/socket/etc when it was made into a lamp. What the body is made of is still a mystery to me - I am unable to get to the bottom of the vase to do a scratch test due to the base. I think it is likely brass, with a slight possibility it is bronze.
All of this along with a few additional odds and ends (including a 70s copy of The Joy of Sex, because why not?) for $284.50! Pretty stoked!

Chicago Tribune Moon Landing Guide - July 13, 1969
A “special guide for armchair astronauts”!
This is the front and back of the insert, along with a few of my favorite pages.
In honor of all of the lovely 2026 CBB tour pics, here are the worst pics of all time from when I went to the 2012 Chicago show where Scott sprained his ankle
Overexposed, blurry, and I mostly remember Scott talking about how much pain he was in - he still suggested we do a fake laugh pose though!
The live stage shot is equally awful, and features Scott sitting on a stool (again, because of his ankle), with Matt Besser as Michael Phelps and James Adomian as Gary Busey.
Ursula K. Le Guin’s “The Lathe of Time” (1980)
Watched on VHS last night. Impressive visuals for such a tiny budget! Extra cool that it was a made-for-tv movie for PBS.
