Linguists find Madonna's voice defies age-related expectations

Study: The Age Chameleon: Social and Biological Effects on Madonna’s Ageing Voice

Our study shows that Madonna's voice appears younger than her age. Her pitch does not follow the patterns we would normally expect from a woman in her 60s, and the way she pronounces a number of vowels does not match the speech patterns typically associated with either her generation or the places where she has lived.

In other words, her voice is difficult to place both in terms of age and geography. We argue that this is a deliberate strategy, with the voice supporting an image of a youthful, attractive and globally oriented performer who is not constrained by chronological age.

Linguistic research suggests that this type of clear, fronted vowel pronunciation is associated with youthfulness, attractiveness and sex appeal. These are qualities that Madonna has likely sought to project not only visually, but also through her speech.

I’m scared we’re going to get so used to the Midnight Sun aesthetics, makeup, wardrobe, and overall vibe that we won’t be able to let it go when she needs to evolve into the next era, especially if it happens to be simpler and less layered than this one

What do you think?

I think it’ll happen as Charli struggle to move from brat to MFF.

Madonna and Sean Penn’s Wedding: Guests and the newlyweds in Malibu (August 16, 1985)

And she and Sean are just so in love.

—Andy Warhol

It was held at the Malibu home of Elda and Dan Unger, friends of Sean’s parents, close to Madonna and Sean’s residence.

Andy recalled in his Diaries that being in Los Angeles felt like an epiphany, while returning to 1980s New York felt like a nightmare. On the way to the wedding in Malibu, he saw helicopters in the distance and knew they were getting close. Reporters had found out where the wedding was, and around ten helicopters were flying over the area. Warhol compared the scene to Apocalypse Now.

The guest list brought together Hollywood’s actors, writers, and directors from Penn’s side, and New York’s downtown art world, Madonna’s Michigan circle and family, and her Warner Bros. team.

Madonna’s guests included her former dance teacher Christopher Flynn, her family, Keith Haring, Debi Mazar, Maripol, Diane Keaton, Steve Rubell, Mo Ostin, Herb Ritts, David Geffen, Martin Burgoyne, and Andy Warhol, who had been invited by Burgoyne. Sean’s invitees included his family and a group of young Hollywood talent: Cher, James Foley, Carrie Fisher, Charlie Sheen, Judd Nelson, Rob Lowe, Timothy Hutton, Cameron Crowe, Harry Dean Stanton, Robert Duvall, and David Letterman.

“FUCK OFF” was inscribed by Sean Penn in twelve-foot-tall letters on the beach below the Ungers’ home so photographers could not use their shots, since editors would not publish images containing the profanity.

Tom Cruise asked Maripol if he could hitch a ride to his car to avoid the paparazzi, then threw himself into the back of the limo with Martin Burgoyne, Keith Haring, Steve Rubell, and Warhol. Maripol ended up sitting on his lap.

Cher and Tom Cruise would meet here to a year later date and become a couple. Cher would call him later one of his top 5 lovers.

That’s Madonna giving her middle finger to the choppers for the interruption and noise.

The only boring celebrity there was Diane Keaton, really.

Yung Lean and Madonna at VMAs

You don’t even have to listen to my music to get those references. Nowadays I’d say I’m more inspired by Madonna and 50 Cent.

Madonna’s remarks on the dance floors after accepting the Best Dance award for CONFESSIONS II - The Film

I came to New York to be a dancer, and dance is where everything happens for me, in my life.

I came to life on the dance floor.
I found my community on the dance floor.
I fell in love with people on the dance floor.
And I lost many people I love on the dance floor.

How many people in this room loves to dance?

If you love to dance... stand up!

Aside from football, whatever you wanna call it...
DANCE BRINGS EVERYONE TOGETHER!

We're all equal on the dance floor
