Fresh celebrities join Alexander Armstrong for a new series of Pointless

Fresh celebrities join Alexander Armstrong for a new series of Pointless

Some repeats with Nish, Lucy and Gok.

Michael’s extremely competitive as per his recent House of Games appearances, so it’s probably best that he’s (sort of) asking the questions rather than asking them.

I’m not a religious Pointless viewer, but will catch the odd episode and look forward to seeing how the new co-hosts get on!

Difficult bosses that appeared early and vice-versa?

For Galaxy 2, as the final boss of the penultimate world in the main game, I’d say Boomsday Machine is pretty darn easy, whilst King Lakitu (second boss of the first galaxy) is deceptively difficult.

For Galaxy 1, I think most of the bosses are ordered by difficulty, whether the creators intended that or not.

What is the booking/filming schedule like for TM contestants?

I’m aware that Alex films with each contestant sporadically for their solo tasks, as and when they are available. Groupings for group tasks are done according to availability too (not the only factor, personality and chemistry comes into it too, surely)?

As for the booking and how far in advance it happens, I imagine it’s pretty subjective and dependent on how famous/busy each contestant each - for example, it’s harder to book someone like Kumail Nanjiani who’s almost always doing something and likely in the States, so his booking needs to be done pretty far in advance. As for someone like Stevie Martin or Amy Gledhill, I’d imagine it’s a bit different…

Apologies if this is a load of waffle to you! This particular TM geek struggles to articulate his thoughts.

Comedians/comedy-adjacent people who (perhaps surprisingly) don’t really do panel shows?

This question is inspired by Ben Elton, who appeared at the first taping of the upcoming WILTY? series on Tuesday 12th May, and he supposedly said that WILTY? is his “first ever panel show”?!

Looking on his iMDB, he seems to have made brief stints on shows like The Cheap Seats in Australia, so perhaps he means UK panel shows. I’m surprised he’s not done something like HIGNFY.

Which other comedians/comedy-adjacent people seem to be pretty reclusive with panel shows?

EDIT: a comment reading that Ben lives in Australia, so isn’t as available as other comedians for British panel shows.

ITV boards Golden Elevators, Richard Osman to host

I love Osman’s casting as a means of “we’ll show BBC Two what they still could’ve had”.

The format looks simple enough to follow and I have a suspicion it could do pretty well, but I hope they jazz it up a little more than 10 50/50 questions and incredibly slow moving lifts for an hour.

Also, I wonder if they’ll change the title to fit the UK version - mind you, “The Golden Lifts” sounds a bit crap.

Snooker game show Big Break cued up for return by BBC Daytime

I’m younger than the show’s ending (2001, we’ll leave it there) but know the show fairly well, having watched some on iPlayer.

I quite like Stephen Hendry and whilst Paddy is a repeat offender with hosting BBC shows (especially game shows), he’s a reliable presenter and that’s all a simple format needs, really.

I hope they’ll still say ‘Snookered’.

Airing in conjunction with BBC’s Snooker coverage - June or July, if I remember rightly?

Non-comedians/comedy actors who’d fit a full series?

We’ve had Richard Osman, Victoria Coren Mitchell, Alice Levine from the top of my head (though, I’ve no doubt there’s a fair few others).

I’d like to see a first in having a NYT contestant be on a full series and when I say that, I mean Claudia Winkleman. Gabby Logan would be fun, too, and there was a period in which between Catsdown and just about everything else, she was pretty relevant on the comedy panel show scene!

I wouldn’t have thought he’s too busy, but someone like James Blunt if opting for a musician?

For context, I'm just wrapping up my second year as an undergrad student.

I started the year very optimistically, in my private student accom, based in city centre (Cardiff), eager to get out, do a bit more, get to know more people etc. Things were right as rain for the first semester and a decent chunk of semester 2, but, academically, I seem to have fallen off.

If my maths is right, I've had nine assessments this year; my highest mark has been 71 and my lowest 20 (failed submission). I have used all four of my late submission permits, having avoided using any with 100% on time submissions in my first year.

The thing is - I've always struggled with being socially awkward and a bit nervous around people. I've made some decent friends on my course, but half of them are practically non-existent outside of uni and, bar one, all seem to have a reason that they can't hang out or can't make this or that (call me cynical), even after a big assessment deadline from which I think a small group hangout at the pub would be fun. I sometimes find the behaviour from my peers a bit odd and bizarre and, whilst I hide my frustrations and haven't cried, I do sometimes get a bit upset and sensitive from time to time. Truth be told, I do often feel quite lonely and the friendly chemistry and antics in lectures not translating to out of uni/seeing my peers always out via socials whilst I haven't had a look in is quite upsetting. I aim to fix this somehow and will join either the rock climbing or live music society in third year.

I'm looking at four Summer retrievals in July (no exams, just assignments), but these will simply be a case of submitting assignments as I've completed them since the deadlines that I missed. I feel like I've been a bit more nonchalant/passive academically which frustrates me as I know I'm more capable than I've demonstrated this year, but I'm wondering if the third paragraph is having a knock-on effect on the academic side of things.

TL;DR - I've kinda been struggling mentally and am wondering if all listed above is much of a cause for concern/signals an underlying issue.

Apologies if this seems overwhelming to read.
