I went to an Anthropic hackathon and won! Here's how I did it.

I won the Societal Impact Award with Fluid Friction, an app that makes you drag through a wave of haptic resistance every time you want to scroll. It doesn't need to block anything. It just makes each scroll require a bit more effort, so it becomes an actual choice. It's free and out on Android and IOS now: fluidfriction.app

Now to how I actually did it.

The most important thing was building a solution for a problem I actually had. Easier said than done, I think this is the most crucial step, and it requires some honesty with yourself. I had been using and seeking out solutions to no avail, so I got to thinking about approaching the problem from a unique angle, namely the scroll itself. As the intended user I could gauge whether or not I was building something I would actually use.

And now for the workflow.

I use Claude Code in the terminal and let it run free and handle the execution of all code production. Simple as that, no fancy skills or libraries just Claude Code on a Max plan in terminal. Deploying to my phone often and iterating. I use tests and try to think of edge cases and as a good software developer given my background, but Claude is a way better software engineer than I ever was.

[HELP] I made an alternative to social media where you can post a Haiku a day to your friends. No one is using it.

I made a screentime app with several features, one is social where you have a leaderboard of your friends screentime health/score but nested in there is a fully fledged out "Haikugram" where you can post a Haiku a day to your friends. You don't scroll haikus but flip a bit tediously through pages of whatever haikus are there. the haikus are up for 24hrs. At the moment no one uses this feature, would such a feature be better as a standalone app?

I went to an Anthropic hackathon and won the Societal Impact Prize! I built an app to help you stop doomscrolling by dragging through a wave of haptic resistance every time you want to scroll. Makes each scroll more mindful and an actual choice by requiring a bit more effort without actually blocking your social media use. It's called Fluid Friction, and it's free and out on Android and IOS now!

My app got €1000 in funding and today its finally out!

Every euro went into developing Fluid Friction, a screentime intervention that makes you mean every scroll by dragging through a wave of haptic resistance. No more doomscrolling! We offer several screentime tools and all for free, even nfc blocking that would cost you €50 from brick is now free to use with any nfc you already own like a student card!

Should I localize the hand color for different regions?

Our app Fluid Friction is finally out on IOS and Android and the hand we use in the feature image and screenshots is an essential part of showing how when you scroll you need to drag through a wave to trigger a scroll. I'm thinking that with localizing the text we could also change the hand color to be more representitive of certain markets, anyone have any experience with this? Do you think it could move the needle on ASO?

mods I couldn't add a flair for some reason.

Invented a new way to scroll social media with friction!

Something that has never been done before, my app makes you mean every scroll by dragging up and through a wave to trigger a scroll. With every scroll being a choice with added effort/friction, I cut my screentime in half. Would you use something so radical? It's out now on Android called Fluid Friction and soon om IOS as well. I am looking for early adopters for feedback.

I reinvented scrolling. Drag past a wave of resistance to trigger a scroll, everytime.

No other screentime app / app blocker has done this, it's the most effective intervention out there and it stopped my doomscrolling and cut my screentime in half, while allowing me to use apps like Instagram for my intended purpose of messaging and somewhat keeping up with friends. App name: Fluid Friction.

Should I pay someone 50 usd for 5 screenshots?

This is my current published listing with all 8 screenshots visible. Someone was offering to make 5 screenshots for 50 usd. Is that a good deal?

Everytime I scroll I need to drag past a wave, greeted by a nod to my favorite show ;)

I made an app to help me scroll less. To scroll on social media, I need to drag a wave past a threshold where it then rises off the screen and scrolls, one post at a time. Tedious but effective. I added different themes and had to include this! The app is out today on the Google Play Store and soon on IOS, its called Fluid Friction.

By making the act of scrolling tedious I solved my addiction.

I made the act of scrolling itself extremely tedious while still being able to access Instagram and the likes. When I scroll, I need to put the effort to drag through a wave that takes up the screen overlaying the feeds. With every scroll becoming less automatic and a choice, I cut my screentime in more than half! The problem really is in the infinite feeds and scrolling mindlessly.

Everytime I want to scroll I need to drag through a wave that then triggers a scroll.

I never found app blocking or quitting Instagram working a long time for me, I still wanted to be connected to friends and messaging, but it's so easy to fall into the trap of scrolling. I found that the act of scrolling was the problem for me. It's too easy and mindless. So, by adding Fluid Friction to scrolling, making me intentionally mean every scroll without blocking me from scrolling completely, I manage to scroll my feeds mindfully and also cut my screentime by more than half, I'm below 2hrs a day now and it used to be 8 💀 I think the best thing to do is diagnose the root problem to excessive screentime and treat that, for me its scrolling but it could also be shorts and so on.
