All ready for its first camping trip this weekend.
Been spaying with Kroil daily and will continue to do so until I attempt the replacement in a week or two.
What a journey. Stayed with several old friends that I hadn’t seen in years. Stopped at numerous monuments, national parks, and road side attractions. Zero issues from the truck.
I also made sure to take it on some dirt before I pulled into my driveway to end the trip :-)
And now I dive into some maintenance items and updates! First order of business will be refreshing the front end.
Vintage Buck 120. Based on the 1 line of text only saying ‘BUCK’ when read blade down and the 4 red spacers I think it’s gotta be from 1967 or earlier?
It’s been used and heavily sharpened (it’s VERY sharp). Pretty neat. I will keep it forever, and I will use it on future hunts in his memory!
Flew out to Connecticut to pick up a 2003 Tacoma from my aunt. It belonged to her late husband and she gifted it to me. Been infrequently driven the past few years. Had the frame replaced. Body isn’t perfect but it’s very good for a New England truck. 145k on it.
So, I Jump started it. New battery. Tossed on new tires (the tire shop put on 265/75’s when I asked for 265/70’s and I didn’t notice until it started rubbing….grr) Changed a tie rod. Oil change. Greased everything. Checked all fluids. Recharged the AC (thank god it’s holding). Put on a soft topper. Loaded it up with all his old hunting and fishing gear and a bunch of books and my luggage….then took off Saturday morning.
900 miles (15 hours) yesterday. About 400 today then I’ll spend a few days with a buddy in Kansas City. I’m 1200 miles into the 3300 mile drive, I’ve crossed 7 states. So far so good! Planning to see some sights in South Dakota, but I want to get this thing home and replace most of the front end among other things.
1 of 600 Lew Horton S&W 629 Hunter II with a vintage Aimpoint Comp. As seen in Escape from LA. Same gun (sans optic) also made an appearance in Grosse Point Blank and John Carpenters Vampires.
Extrema Ratio RAO II and Fox Meskwaki Tracker. Both two hard use intended blades with secondary locking systems that do their best to convert them to a fixed blade. Both Bohler N690. Both have sheaths that allow them to be carried open or closed. They will be my camping and hunting companions.
Apex hammer kit, tronco cylinder latch, VZ grips, D&L rear sight. Spare ammo in a RASC
