Thirsty babies
It’s been very hot in New Jersey so they’re grateful for the fresh water!

Swipe to see how dramatically this fawn took a nap on my front yard the other day!
A few weeks ago I met a guy who said he’s a wine importer. He used to work on Wall Street.
I was thinking last night that a “wine importer” sounds like a great fake job for someone who is retired but just drinks a lot of wine! I’m pretty close to RE, and I think I might just refer to myself as “in the ice cream business”. Or, “chocolate taste tester”.
No cat just a curtain at the bottom of the stairs. I always tell him what a good hider he is
Anybody know where I can find a new head for him?
Since everyone appreciated the 4 fawns trying to nurse from one mama, here’s last night’s footage!
The two fawns had been snoozing in my yard all afternoon. Mama was in the neighbor’s yard, close enough to keep an eye on them but far enough away that they could feel independent.
She got up to come to my yard (the local deer toilet). The babies were not allowed to nurse till she was done peeing!!
A buck appeared briefly but not where I could get a video. He is probably an older brother to the fawns!
This is in New Jersey, taken from inside my kitchen. These deer know my yard. I put out fresh water every day for the critters since last summer because we are under drought conditions here.
There had been a pair of fawns in my yard at dawn. Then a second pair showed up! Then this mama showed up, and I’m almost positive some of these are not her own babies! But she corrected the ones that weren’t.
A couple weeks ago, I noticed a juvenile red belly at the feeder. Now I have a juvenile Downy. Look at his little head! He’s going to get spoiled, because I have the fancy seed out for the holiday weekend
Jolie had a fun vacation at grandma’s house this weekend! Since the dog wasn’t there she got to enjoy the front door!
My mom bought the stool for Jolie this weekend. Suffice to say she loves it!
I got to be fawn day care today. I think this one is 3 and a half weeks old.
I woke up one cat to see mama deer snarfing down birdseed. He loves the deer show. But we went to the window and the other cat was already watching!! She’s not the brightest so I was pleasantly surprised that she was there!
She’s trying to make a nest right outside my mom’s front door. It’s not a big enough space. She keeps knocking the sticks out of the space whenever she gets spooked and flies away. I swept away all the sticks on the porch. She resumed trying to build. I tried to reason with her. She won’t hear it. I feel bad for her but there’s just no way she can incubate an egg up there.
