Supervisor expects no more than 15 min per claim. Are those expectations too high?

Sorry if this isn't the right community to post this question. I've had my CPC through AAPC since 2021, but unfortunately, have never been able to get a job in medical coding. The only jobs I can get are in medical billing (AR follow-up).

I know there are productivity standards. I've worked for a few different companies now, and they all have their own expectations. But the company I'm at now, I feel like their productivity standards are way too high especially considering the payers that they assigned me. I'm only allowed to work workers comp, no fault, and government payers (i.e. VA and Medicaid). Everyone knows these payers are notoriously difficult to work with. Just calling them can take over an hour because of their excessive hold times.

My supervisor at this new job tracks everything I do from the emails I write down to every single click I do. And she's definitely looking at the minutes I spend on a claim. She told me today she doesn't want me spending more than 15 minutes on a claim, and much less wants me spending time calling on them and submitting appeals. In fact, she got mad at me today because "you're doing too many reconsiderations."

A huge part of AR follow-up is calling the payer and appealing the claims if you don't agree with their denial. So I'm not understanding why she's not happy with that? I'm doing my due diligence yet, I feel like this supervisor is more focused on quantity vs quality. She also told me she doesn't want me mailing appeals. Some payers (especially the government ones like the VA) only have a mailing address to send the appeals. So, like, how else am I going to send the appeal if I can't mail it?

I feel like this supervisor is completely out of touch with reality. And she micromanages absolutely everything we do down to how we write our emails to payers.

And she looks at every minute you spend on a claim, and she wants you to do 50 of them a day. The payers that got assigned to me don't even have portals so I always have to call them. She didn't care when I told her this and instead told me to "find another way" to contact them. Like, what in the actual f*** is she talking about?

I feel like her expectations are too high and not realistic. And I don't see a future for myself at this company. Like I said, I've had other jobs where they have quotas and such, but not like at this company.

Is this normal? Am I overreacting?

Do native Coloradans actually hate Floridians a lot or is it just me?

I took up a remote job with a CO-based company, and holy shit, the natives from CO keep trashing on Florida to the point that I'm getting offended. My trainer started talking crap out of nowhere about how Floridians can't drive in the snow amongst other things while another girl on the call started talking trash about our weather. I almost felt like saying well of course we can't drive in the snow BECAUSE IT NEVER SNOWS HERE. It's so obvious that a native Floridian who's never experienced snow like myself would not know how to drive in it just like they wouldn't know at all how to even prepare for a hurricane.

My saving grace was a third person on that call who happened to be a native Floridian like myself said "Well you don't know how to drive in a hurricane."

I have a feeling I'm not going to enjoy working for these people if their attitude towards Floridians is going to be that horrendous. Every state has its pros and cons. And whether one state is better than another strongly depends on who you're asking. Why can't we all just get along?

When to ask for higher dosage?

I've been on 10 mg Lexapro for almost a month, however, I'm not noticing a difference in my overthinking and anxiety. My doctor said it could be 4-6 weeks to feel the full effect, but if I've been on this dose for almost a full month, and I'm not noticing any difference at all, isn't it safe to say that this dose probably won't work for me?

Final days at my job, and I'm diamond painting instead.

I've been working on this huge 60 cm x 80 cm custom piece since early June, and it's really kicking my butt. It's all square and has 72 colors. There's a lot of confetti!

I quit my job for a better paying job and tomorrow is my last day. I've been checked out and not doing any work so I've been diamond painting instead (it's a remote job, and the new job will be remote, too).

Please don't judge me. My current job was very toxic, and I worked myself to the bone. Two people left my team, and instead of replacing them, my manager decided to give the people left their extra work. My team is down to a skeleton crew. I even returned to work 3 days after having major knee surgery because I ran out of FMLA, and they wouldn't let me have an extra week off unpaid so I could recover. My manager was incredibly unsupportive, too, even when I had access issues.

I didn't give them a 2 week notice either, and I was more than OK with burning that bridge. I'm really just biding my time here until tomorrow. Diamond painting is really helping with the stress!

If you got the explosive diarrhea illness, what did you eat and where did you get it?

I ate a salad at The Hungry Greek (dumb decision, I know) and now I'm freaking out that I'll get Cyclosporiasis. I ate the salad a few days ago so it's still too early for me to show symptoms yet as it takes a full week for symptoms to show. I'm about to start a new job so I can't afford to get sick right now.

Anyone here got it and what did you eat and where from?

Not excited of new job because of burnout

I currently work remote in medical billing, and after being here 2.5 years, I managed to get a new job, also remote, that pays me better. It's going to be more work and likely more strict, but my current job underpays me, and there's been a lot of changes recently that have made things worse (i.e. outsourcing to India is a big one).

Thing is, I've been very burned out by my current job since the past year or so. And even though I should be excited about this new job, I'm just not. It's still the same industry, and I'm bored and unmotivated with it. I'm already having lots of anxiety about the new job because, frankly, I'm tired of medical billing.

My husband was surprised because he thought I wanted to leave medical billing for good, but this is the only thing I can get a stable job in. I don't want to do gig work like Doordash. And I don't want to do anything customer-facing either. I simply don't have any skills to do anything else. And then there's AI to worry about, too.

Sometimes I wonder if I should just stay where I'm at because I already have anxiety about the new job, and at least where I'm at now I know what to expect. But I don't know. I have no idea how to shake off these feelings of being burned out and too stressed out over a job.

My parents don't realize how much their critical comments hurt me.

Not sure if I used the right flair. I'm 42, and my whole life my parents have been so critical of my appearance and basically everything I do. My dad used to call me names and make fun of my weight since I was a kid, and he did it again yesterday when I visited. I've always struggled with my weight, just like my mom and everyone on her side of the family. I know I'm fat. I don't need anyone to remind me.

Then, my mom got after me because I cut my hair. I'm in Florida, and so it's very hot here. I cut it shoulder length because it's too hot for long hair. My hair was legit sticking to my neck.

Then I got a new tattoo, and my dad proceeded to tell me how stupid it looked. It's just a small tattoo of a cat. He himself has several tattoos so I find that very hypocritical of him to judge me on that. They just kept attacking me all day long yesterday when I don't even know what I did.

My husband and I want to move to a different state, and of course, my parents have been extremely unsupportive and have gone as far as to say I'm a terrible daughter and that I'm abandoning them.

When I was growing up, I had to start taking care of my mom because she was diagnosed with a mental health disorder when I was 7. I was forced to grow up quick and make sure she took her meds. And once I started driving, I had to take her to all her appointments. I basically had to raise myself as my dad was always working, and he never gave me any of his time. He wouldn't talk to me and basically ignored me. My dad used to make comments all the time, too, about he wished I was born a boy (I'm their only child).

I'm at a point where I don't want my parents in my life anymore. They act like I owe them something. I don't understand why they both seem so disappointed in me. I got good grades in school, went to college, and I've been working ever since. Never did drugs or messed around like that. I mean, I'm the first in my family to have graduated from college, and all my dad did was criticize my major (Marketing), and didn't even bother to take me out to eat or anything after my graduation ceremony. He just said my major wouldn't amount to anything.

I didn't ask to be born. And I certainly didn't ask to have them as parents. But it makes me so sad that they seem to hate me so much.

Is it possible to not get a job over a lack of references?

I got offered a job but it's a tentative offer because they want to hear from my references first. They asked for 5 references and 2 had to be former managers and the rest coworkers. They didn't want personal references of any kind.

I do have 2 people who are former coworkers that I still kept in touch with, but I lost touch with everyone else. I definitely never kept in touch with my former managers except for one who didn't respond to my text about adding her.

Is it actually possible to get a job offer rescinded due to no references or not enough references? I'm perfectly qualified for this job and both of the hiring managers were impressed by me during the interview and said as much.

What does invalid rate code mean?

I have an ASC centers out of NY where a lot of their UHC and Emblem Health facility claims are getting this denial for "invalid rate code." The biller on my team is very mean and less than helpful so she hasn't been wanting to help me with this. My manager has been ignoring my questions. I'm not getting any help from anyone at my job. How do you fix this denial?

Will moving across the country help with my depression?

My husband and I are looking to relocate from Florida to Colorado. My husband thinks this move will help me with my depression because he's looking at smaller towns that are less populated than where we're at in Florida. Plus, the weather is nicer, and you get 4 seasons.

The thing is the main source of my depression is my job. I started hating my job years ago, but I feel stuck. My job is remote so I'll continue with it in Colorado. I don't think this move will change anything for me personally, at least not while I'm working here.

Has anyone moved across the country and felt better? Has moving made you happier?

I'd rather be diamond painting than playing a board game with friends.

One Saturday a month, we have friends come over to play a board game all day long. Saturdays are usually the only time I can actually diamond paint for long sessions because I work full-time, and I have a toddler in addition. This Saturday is when we're supposed to be gaming, but honestly, I'd rather be diamond painting. Last time we played, I almost fell asleep (seriously). I know that makes me sound antisocial, but right now, I'm much more interested in diamond painting than in board games.

Here's my current WIP that I ordered from Temu. It's my first square drill canvas. I ordered this to practice with square drills, and it's been OK so far. I bit frustrating, but not bad. And the book in the background is my massive diamond art storage book that my husband got me for Mother's Day.

Thanks for reading my rant.

Ever Moment customs

Anyone use Ever Moment for custom diamond paintings? Please show me how it turned out. I recently ordered from them, and I'm curious. If you ordered a custom from a different company, please don't reply as I'm only talking about Ever Moment.

I had my core decompression surgery done 6 months ago in my left knee, and while the latest MRI shows the AVN hasn't progressed and bone hasn't collapsed, it's still very much there. I'm still in daily pain, but it's not as intense as it was. I have good days and bad days with the pain. My surgeon said the MRI looked good and didn't think I needed a knee replacement anytime soon (I don't believe her but whatever). She told me to take Advil for the pain. But, honestly, NSAIDs can't be taken long-term. I'm wondering if I should start seeing a pain management clinic at this point since my ortho won't prescribe anything?

For context, I'm in Florida, which is probably the worst state to be in for pain management right now.
