After PlayStation announced the death of physical media this is now my new old best friend.
I have had this console since I was three years old. Now life has gone on and I live by myself and I am 19 years old. This console was still going strong.
I don’t remember that this console existed because it was took away in my suitcase that’s obviously I kept around with me for years this suitcase of my childhood essentially because I was a child who left the care system. And obviously this was the one consult that I had had so obviously there’s sentimental value there. But the fact that it’s still going it’s had dropped it’s had bumps it is surprisingly still in one piece.
And to see obviously all of that in one places so nostalgic, especially with other things as well
The only sad part about it, which is why you may notice there are two consoles in the image, is that the laser is on its way out. While it can still read discs, sometimes it just fails even if the disc is totally clean. Which is fine because it’s not a full failure and it still plays movies and everything else fine.
The hard drive is still perfect, which I’m actually kind of surprised it’s still going strong, but then I realise back in the day when we were playing it, we didn’t have Wi-Fi, so we paid off the disk mainly so it was more of a poison, which I’m happy about.
So I’m currently transferring all of my data across and backing it up to the cloud in case the hard drive does decide to fail because I’m going to be playing this console far more often now. I also have a game collection, but I realise that I’ve never actually played none of these games, so I want to start making my way through these and expanding my collection.
But also, nostalgia— something I must say— it kind of just takes you back. It’s like this console captures something that consoles these days just failed to do. I think these consoles these days feel so sterile, and obviously, the greed of these corporations is just kind of putting you off.
But also, I’m just very lucky to have my first ever concert of my life still kicking ;)
And I only remember I had this console because I had a suitcase and this was full of my child memorabilia. Because I was a kid of the cast system which obviously makes this more valuable because this console was able to survive me moving homes when I was younger and I would play on this console a lot.
