48 [M4F] #Massachusetts - 6'6, accidentally built, still the quiet one at the party

I started lifting in my late 30s and then the hyperfixation took the wheel. Nobody warned me that "new hobby" plus a brain that does not know how to do anything at 60% equals a guy who now goes through doorways at an angle. I was aiming for "less winded on the stairs." I overshot. The rest of my life is much calmer than the shoulders suggest.

I read scifi by the stack, game most nights, and plan cruises with a spreadsheet level of detail that I refuse to apologize for. Soft spoken and a little shy until I know you, then good luck getting me to stop. My two Scottish terriers handle the loud parts of the household.

Divorced 3 years, two grown kids, work from home. Life is stable and I like it that way.

My type has always been curvy, athletic, or curvy AND athletic and no, I will not be dragging you to the gym. That is my weird thing, not a membership requirement. Looking for a woman who likes talking every day and letting something build slowly.

Skip the "hey." Tell me the last thing you got completely obsessed with, useful or not, and we'll go from there.

48 [M4F] #Massachusetts The muscles were built by accident, held together by hyperfixations

Full disclosure: the muscles were not the plan. A few years back I needed something to do with my hands and my brain that wasn't doomscrolling, so I started lifting. It worked a little too well and here we are.

Everything else about me is exactly what you'd expect from someone who reads Sherlock Holmes for fun (yes, again, no I don't know why either), games regularly, and has a Pinnacle Club membership from taking cruise itineraries far more seriously than a normal person should. I'm quiet, a little shy at first, and much better in a real conversation than in a bio.

Divorced three years, two grown kids I'm proud of, work from home, and my two Scottish Terriers run daily standup whether I like it or not.

I'm looking for someone who likes slow-build conversations and doesn't mind a partner who occasionally vanishes into a hyperfixation. Tell me what's got your attention lately. Book, game, hobby, or otherwise, I want to hear about it.

48 [M4F] #New England: 6'6", 320 lbs, and mostly here to talk sci-fi

Full disclosure up top, since my post history will out me anyway: I'm a genuinely large human. 6'6", 320 lbs, and the photos feature a concerning number of visible veins. I promise the energy is golden retriever, not nightclub bouncer.

The actual story: I'm autistic, and lifting is one of the hyperfixations my brain latched onto years ago. Started as a way to manage anxiety, turned into a decade of accidental consistency. So I ended up looking like this while my real personality is "wants to infodump about practical effects versus CGI and then hand you a novel."

The rest of me: 48, New England, work from home, two adult daughters, two Scottish terriers who are the genuine stars of every photo.

I'm hoping to find someone smart and a little bit weird who still gets excited about her thing, whatever it is. I'd rather trade fun, slightly flirty messages and see what clicks than run a checklist. If something real grows out of it, I'm open to that, and distance doesn't scare me if the conversation's good.

If any of this landed: message me with the hyperfixation you'd be a little embarrassed to admit to. I'll go first next round.

48 [M4F] New England: Gym body, museum membership

I look like I should be talking about football. What I actually want is to hand you a sci fi novel, wander a museum with you, and argue practical effects versus CGI over coffee. I will die on that hill.

The muscles were an accident. I started lifting years ago to manage anxiety, and my autistic brain turned it into a hyperfixation. People are surprised by the bookshelf.

The basics: 48, New England, work from home, two adult daughters, two objectively adorable Scottish terriers. We're in my post history. Fair warning, they're the photogenic ones.

You: smart, playful, still gets excited about things. If picturing yourself in that museum with me makes you smile, you already know.

I'd rather start with fun, slightly flirty conversation than a relationship interview. If it grows into something real, I'm open to long term, and distance isn't a dealbreaker if the banter's good.

When you message me, open with the last thing you hyperfixated on. I'll trade you mine.

48[M4F] #New England. I accidentally became the muscular version of the guy who reminds you to back up your computer.

Hi, I'm Michael.

Years ago I started lifting because it helped with anxiety. Then my autistic brain did what it always does and turned it into an eleven-year hyperfixation. The result is that I look like I should be discussing football when I'd honestly rather argue about the best sci-fi novel ever written, compare museum recommendations, or spend an hour talking about why a movie adaptation missed the point of the book.

I work from home, have two adult daughters, and live with two Scottish terriers who appear in my camera roll more often than I do. There are pictures of all of us in my post history if you're curious.

I'd love to meet a woman who's genuinely nerdy about something. Books, science, gaming, technology, history, space, miniatures, trains, languages, it doesn't matter. Tell me about the thing you disappear into for hours because it's just that interesting.

If you're looking for someone who's equal parts geek, dependable adult, and unexpectedly built, I think we'd probably have a lot to talk about.

48[M4F] 40+ Geek with muscles seeking someone who appreciates both

The funny thing is I never set out to look like the guy people assume I am. I started lifting years ago because it helped with anxiety, then my autistic brain did what it always does and turned it into a long-term hyperfixation. So now I look like I should be talking about football while I'm actually trying to convince you to read a sci-fi novel, visit a museum, or explain why practical effects were better than CGI.

I'm 48, in New England, work from home, have two adult daughters, and two Scottish terriers who are objectively adorable. There are pictures of me and the dogs in my post history if you're curious.

I'm looking for a woman who's intelligent, playful, emotionally mature, and still gets excited when she meet someone who makes her laugh. If you're the type who likes discovering that the big guy is actually the nerd, I have a feeling we'll get along.

48M - software engineer, powerlifter, sci-fi reader, and owner of two Scottish terriers

I work from home, which means there are entire days where my only coworkers are Slack notifications and two dogs who contribute absolutely nothing to quarterly objectives.

I'm a software engineer who somehow also ended up spending years moving heavy things around a garage gym. Outside of that, I'm into sci-fi books, museums, travel, history, motorcycles, and whatever random topic catches my attention for a week and sends me down a rabbit hole.

If you're looking for someone who can discuss everything from space travel to why every home improvement project takes three trips to the hardware store, send me a message. Bonus points if you have a hobby you're irrationally enthusiastic about.

Dog pictures available upon request. They're much more popular than I am.

48M [M4F] tall guy from new england looking for a real connection

I'm 48, divorced, have my life together, and work as a software engineer. Most people are a little surprised when they find out the computer nerd spends a good chunk of his free time powerlifting. What started as a way to manage stress years ago turned into a hobby I genuinely love.

Outside the gym, I'm a sci-fi reader, dog owner, traveler, museum wanderer, and collector of entirely too many interests. There are photos of me and my two Scottish terriers in my post history if you're curious. Fair warning: the dogs are probably cuter than I am.

I'd love to meet a woman who is kind, intelligent, and still excited about discovering new places, ideas, and experiences. Tell me a little about yourself and what's bringing you to r4r.

48M [M4F] #NewEngland looking for someone who understands hyperfixations (mine are sci-fi books, both the good ones and the terrible ones, powerlifting, and e-bikes)

I'm a 48-year-old software engineer from New England who has spent most of his life collecting hobbies the way some people collect trading cards.

The autism factory settings mean I don't really do casual interests. I go all in. At various points, that's been programming, model trains, Warhammer, motorcycles, sci-fi novels, history, and, currently, powerlifting. I originally started lifting because it helped with anxiety and depression, then accidentally turned it into an 11-year research project involving spreadsheets, biomechanics, training theory, and moving progressively heavier objects.

I'm looking for someone who understands the joy of disappearing down a rabbit hole because you suddenly need to know everything about a topic. Tell me about the obscure thing you've been obsessed with lately. Bonus points if it's something I've never heard of.

I can offer conversation about sci-fi, technology, books, dogs, museums, terrible dad jokes, and why every hobby eventually becomes an excuse to buy specialized equipment.

Send me a message and tell me what your current hyperfixation is.

48m tall guy seeks distraction from pretending to be productive

working from home has convinced me that i need more random conversations in my life.

i’m a software engineer, amateur dog butler, sci-fi reader, garage gym enthusiast, and collector of hobbies that started as “this seems interesting” and somehow became long-term commitments. i’m told i’m easy to talk to, although the dogs might disagree because they mostly hear me explaining why they absolutely cannot have whatever i’m eating.

tell me about the weird thing you’re currently obsessed with, your favorite rabbit hole, or something you’re looking forward to this summer. bonus points if you have pets because pet stories are basically a universal language.

also, if you’re the sort of person who checks profiles before messaging, there are pictures of me and my two scottish terriers in my post history. they’re adorable. i benefit from standing next to them.

48M. Apparently you're supposed to have hobbies besides collecting hobbies.

I work from home writing code, which means I spend a lot of my day talking to computers that are somehow easier to understand than people.

A few years ago I started lifting weights to help with anxiety and depression. Then my autistic brain decided this was the only acceptable hobby and turned it into an eleven-year obsession. Somewhere in there I also picked up sci-fi books, mystery novels, travel planning, cooking, and an endless supply of completely useless facts.

I'm the kind of person who can have a twenty-minute conversation about why a certain movie works, the history of ocean liners, whether hot dogs are sandwiches, or why my two Scottish terriers seem convinced they're qualified to manage my career.

If you're bored, procrastinating, avoiding work, or just want to talk to another human, say hi.

48[M4F] my midlife crisis was powerlifting instead of a sports car

I'm Michael, 48, from New England.

Years ago I started lifting weights because anxiety and depression were kicking my ass. Somewhere along the way I accidentally got good at it. Apparently if you do the same thing every week for eleven years straight, results happen. Who knew.

When I'm not working as a software engineer, I'm usually reading sci-fi or mystery novels, planning my next trip, cooking something, or arguing with my two Scottish terriers about who actually owns the house. My kids are grown, my life is pretty calm these days, and I've reached the age where a really good conversation is more exciting than a really exciting conversation.

I tend to get along best with women who are comfortable with themselves. Funny helps. Curiosity helps more. Tell me what you're reading, where you'd go if someone handed you a plane ticket tomorrow, or what hobby somehow took over your life. There are a few pictures in my post history if you're curious who you're talking to.

48[M4F] 40+ Broad shoulders, calm voice, dangerous levels of attention

I’m Michael, 48, in New England. Tall, built, bearded, and the kind of man people usually assume is intimidating right up until I start making them laugh. I work from home, which means my phone is nearby more than it probably should be, and I genuinely enjoy getting distracted by the right woman.

I like chemistry that sneaks up on you a little. The playful back and forth that turns into tension without either person forcing it. The moment you realize you’re rereading messages before replying because suddenly you care what this one man thinks of you.

I lift several days a week, read sci-fi and mystery novels, cook a surprisingly good steak, and bribe people with photos of my two ridiculous Scottish terriers. I’m attentive without being needy, confident without performing it, and apparently very good at making women blush once they get comfortable.

You’re probably confident, quick-witted, maybe a little sarcastic, and old enough to know attraction is way more about energy than perfect selfies. Bonus points if you can flirt like a woman who’s lived a little and still enjoys the thrill of being wanted.

Send a message. Tell me what your biggest red flag is or what kind of man you accidentally fall for every single time.

48[M4F] Anti-AI and attempting human interaction the old fashioned way

Michael, 48, New England. I work from home writing code, lift weights most mornings because it keeps me balanced and clears my head, and spend an unreasonable amount of time talking to my two Scottish terriers like they’re actual coworkers. Divorced, grown kids, quiet life overall these days. Outside of work I read a lot of sci-fi and mystery novels, cook pretty well, and genuinely enjoy getting to know people.

Mostly just looking for someone easy to talk to. Funny helps. Curiosity helps more. I like women who can hold a conversation, have a little personality, and don’t approach messaging like a job interview. Not trying to force anything. Just seeing if there’s a connection, good conversation during the day, and maybe eventually that nice little moment where you catch yourself hoping a certain person replied.
