Hate to say it, but I may have to give up on my Shadow 2

Little bit of backstory. I picked up a Shadow 2 back in March and planned to replace my P10F with it for USPSA competition. I struggled to really get a good, confident, consistent grip on it for a while and eventually ended up with a set of Magmo grips. Even then, I felt like I had to shift how I gripped the gun vs my P10’s , P365 and other pistols to be confident in my grip.

I then started developing some elbow pain during/after dryfire but just kinda pushed through it. Eventually it got so bad a couple months ago that I stopped dryfire entirely and have been working on some PT exercises/ weight lifting to try and get things better. It’s mostly healed now and hurt day to day anymore.

Tonight I was going to try and work in some light dryfire to see how ready i’ll be for an upcoming competition in 2 weeks. I could barely get 3-4 reps in before my elbow joint/forearm was absolutely burning with pain. Switched back to my P10F out of curiosity and it was completely fine. I could draw, work from low ready, transition between targets, etc, all relatively pain free.

Obviously the weight difference between the two probably plays some part. But i’ve never really gotten 100% comfortable with my grip on the shadow 2 and I’m wondering if my body’s basically telling me “this ain’t for you bro”. Which sucks, because I do really like the way it shoots otherwise, trigger is fantastic, recoil is basically nonexistent, and it’s a tack driver accuracy wise. I just can’t help but think I’m trying to pound a square peg in a round hole and make it work for me.

Idk, has anyone else ran into this issue with their Shadow 2 and/or other guns? Should I keep trying to make it work or just accept the Shadow 2 isn’t for me and sell it/move on (likely back to the P10F).

Progression of my 16” go-to rifle over the course of a year

Rebuilt a 16” rifle about a year ago and made a promise to myself that it would be the main rifle I used/trained with for a year. I kept making little tweaks here and there as I found limitations and now it’s just about “perfect” (although i’m sure i’ll want to change something again soon). Definitely glad I decided to so that as the rifle is now mostly an extension of me and I am very comfortable running it in various scenarios.

Still have a couple things to re-paint, but I’m waiting to make sure I 100% like how they work.

Miller Proheat / Induction Heating Alternatives

Probably a long shot, but does anyone here know of a good alternative for a Miller Proheat unit? I’ve done a bit of research but it looks like Miller is pretty much the only name in the game right now for induction preheating.

[Parts] Centurion Arms blem uppers - $85 stripped, $100 assembled

Both thermal and mil-spec fit are available right now. The finish on these has been significantly better than that on BCM thermal fit uppers in my experience. Not sure how the blem will affect that though.

They also have 30% off a bunch of other blems.

[Parts] Centurion Arms 11.5” FBI profile barrel *blem* - $220 + shipping with code “Fuckyourtea”

Only 2ea left in stock. I bought mine before posting to you animals because I know they won’t last long.

Code works on other Centurion items too. I nabbed a thermal fit upper, chrome tapered bolt, barrel and a tabbed gas block for $465 shipped. I was going to try and get a Geissele SD 11.5” upper but at this price point building from a Centurion barrel just made more sense IMO.

It’s Friday my dudes! Who’s getting out and touching grass this weekend?

I’m planning a nice ruck/hike this Sunday. Might try to take this out to 300+ yards too depending on if I can find a good enough spot or not.

Anyone have YHM Fatcat suppressor cover suggestions?

Decided I need a suppressor cover for my Fatcat after last weekend’s range trip. Mostly for helping with heat mirage, but i’d also like to not burn my pants when moving (or at least lessen the chances). I see YHM makes one, but I was hoping to find something in either green or some form of green-ish multicam style print. Anyone have any suggestions or recommendations?

Got out & touched grass today. It’s scary outside, i’m going back to the basement now!

Memes aside, the range was surprisingly quiet today given it is Father’s day. Pretty happy with my groups from my 16” Geissele Super Duty upper. Averaging 1.5-1.9 MOA depending on the ammo, very acceptable for a high durability barrel IMO. It definitely shoots better than I do!

Note, I pulled one of the 75gr Gold Dot shots HARD. That’s why I omitted it from that grouping.

Alright Reddit, are we team vertical grip or team anti-vertical grip!?!?

PLEASE VALIDATE MY DECISIONS! I can’t possibly run my rifle if it’s not exactly what the internet hivemind and guntubers think is right!!!

Dryfire and some light reading is tonight’s game plan

Working specifically on my transitions and slowing down just a touch on further targets. Last time I was out on the range I was running the gun way too fast trying to make it look cool for the ‘gram. Looked cool, but my scores were absolute 💩. Working on dialing it back about 10% to ensure good clean A zone hits.

First NV set up came in the mail today, so obviously I had to stay up a little late and test it all out.

Picked up the helmet, PVS-14 and CTF-2 for $3750. I’m feeling pretty good about it honestly, the tube does have a pretty decent pepper spot towards the middle, but I lose it pretty quickly unless I’m staring at a flat surface for a long time.

* PVS-14 - Res: 64 SNR: 33 EBI: 0.51 Halo: 0.79

* Team Wendy Exfil bump cap - Trex Arms lanyard, Wilcox J arm and mount, Streamlight Sidewinder II, EOG counterweight

* Phantom Hill CTF-2 - BE Myers Kiji & Malkof E1HT heads.

Bought my first NV setup yesterday! Already have a night shoot planned, how scuffed is an offset red dot really?

Picked up my first night vision setup yesterday on GAFS. Can’t wait until it gets here on Tuesday!! Paid $3750 for the entire package, which all my buddies who run NV say was a great deal. I’ll list the package contents in a comment for anyone interested.

My only real thing left to figure out is what my passive aiming option will be for my primary rifle. Right now I run a Vudu 1-10 on a 1.93” Badger Ornance mount with an offset Acro P2. Everything i’ve read/heard says that a top dot is the best option, but how bad would this set up actually be? Is it something I should change up before my first night shoot in a couple weeks or can I let it ride and build out my actual night gun later? (Already have a T-2 incoming for it from GAFS).

Shadow 2 FTE multiple times with Blazer Brass out

Yesterday I was out running some pistol drills with my Shadow 2 and had about 10x rounds fail to extract from the chamber. This is the first time i’ve had any type of hiccup with my Shadow 2 at all through about 2500 rounds. Ammo was Blazer Brass 115gr and it is my first time using this ammo in this gun.

Anyone have an idea what it could be? I know extractors are an issue on these, but everything I’ve heard said that is an issue at ~10k rounds, not 2500. I have a match in a couple weeks and would like to know this gun is not going to shit the bed on a stage

Few notes to help:

* The gun was relatively clean, maybe had 200 rounds through it from a previous range trip. Nothing was crazy dirty.

* The issue was not mag related as all 4 of my mags had an issue at some point.

* I kinda scraped/poked around the extractor a bit with what I had on me and it seemed to clear up for a few mags, but then it was right back to doing this again.

Got out and touched grass this weekend! Loving my GPR setup so far!

Got to take a couple days to get out and actually USE my equipment this weekend!

First day was with a buddy doing some pretty fun move and shoot drills incorporating lots of 50-100yard dashes to get the heartrate up. Targets were anywhere from 50 to 200 yards away. Let me say, hitting a 6x9 torso target at ~150 yards after a 100 yard sprint in kit is a challenge!

Second day was solo and spent doing mostly pistol work, but I also got some rifle work in at the end. I’ll link a few videos below that I took. Targets were at 125-150 yards, mix of 6x9 and 10x12 torso steel targets.
