while waiting for my ao3 invitation to arrive, i'm looking for a couple of fanfictions for research on a couple things for my own fanfic that i'm drafting 🤠

1.) demisexual gay eddie (probably one of the more important topics)
snince there's so little (if any) mainstream media representation of what demisexuality is and/or how one usually understand that they are demisexual, any fic recommendations on works that address this ^
(more specifically, since the last time i've drafted this post for a different subreddit, fics that address eddie having picked up on the numerous bread crumbs over the years, bonus points if he picks up on the most recent homophobic encounter during S9E13 during buck's recovery and raising theo with buck

2.) eddietheo
since the main focus likely of buddie this season will be on buck and his journey of becoming a foster father (and hopefully adopted(?)/adopting father by the end) to theo, any fics on eddie's part in this as well as any parallels with buck and chris with the tsunami since that'll probably happen too for this one ^

3.) buddie angst
i've got a general idea of what my personal fic plot is gonna be about, but any further great angst recommendations would be great to jump off on. bonus points if they include theo, since it's been a couple months since S9E18 aired with buck's signing to become a foster dad to theo

following buddie's eventual (and hopefully fairly soon within the next 1-2 seasons or so) cannonness, where do you think buddie's first date would be and/or how would it go?

4.) pier/beach/park (outdoors) date
5.) your choice

imo, a mix of three and four would be my leading favorites, but i could change my mind
though, as for now, going to a food market and picking out each others' favorite foods then going to the beach to bask in the sun and enjoy each other's company with just the two of them would be so romantic and cute :grinning-dog-gif:

given that the popular fanon headcanon is that eddie will likely be the one to both confess and propose later on in their relationship, where/how would be the most likely scenario for both when eddie comes out and confesses his feelings for buck as well as when he will eventually propose to him?

imo, i think it'll probably happen in either eddie's kitchen or maybe even buck's either in the middle/following some sort of argument regarding their personal lives. then, similar to how chenford's confession went in S5E08 (for reference, since it's also an extremely popular canon ship from the rookie/abc as well)

"of course, i'm scared. if we do this and it doesn't work, i'll have ruined the most important relationship in my life... so we should just keep going the way we have been, right? it's not worth the risk."

eddie and buck's friendship/situationship (depending on how you look at it) has lasted for a deacde/slightly over a decade by now, even more than the four and a half years it took for chen and bradford to finally cross that line of friendship with each other. i just KNOW however it unfolds, it going to be absolutely HEARTWRENCHING and GUTWRENCHING and we all here for it 🍿🚒🚑

between the following options, which one would most likely become canon and what are some theories on how the show might go about approaching it?

personally, i think i mentioned something similar in a previous post, but other than christopher (as he's literally his son), i think having eddie indirectly come out to hen (as her current work husband) first would be an interesting arc (as someone's who's been very much loud and proud (as she should) regarding her sexuality, wife, and family).
between hen, maddie, and chimney, i think there's a lot of potential for eddie with regards to buddie (since especially for christopher, theres probably moments where he was looking at the two of them and thought something was gonna happen lmao 😭😭)
and, why it hasn't happened on-screen yet is beyond me, but having maddie and eddie become more closer friends would be nice to see as they have a lot in common with each other and would add more to buck's suspicion until everything finally snaps into place 🤭

+ one more positive hypothetical to even out the other, if eddie were to have his arc FINALLY making peace with how he handled his relationship with shanon and her death ever since, do you think he would come out to buck first like how buck did with him or would be come out to someone like hen, who is the other openly queer/lesbian canon character in the story to get advice with coming to terms with one's queerness in a heteronormative society with buck likely being busy with a kid like theo? (maddie's friendly revenge for all the years she'd had to raise adhd kid buck lmao 😭😭😭)

planning on working on a buddie-inspired keychain (golden retriever x black cat), but i'm having a bit of difficulty in deciding what else to add to it

any suggestions on what represents buck that i could add as well as for buddie would be appreciated 🤠

after a couple months within this fandom, i'm just now realizing how much more painful it's gonna be if in season 10 buddie doesn't go canon (which is generally around 60/40% depending on who you ask with the introduction of Theo back into the picture)

originally, back when S8E15 was released on april 17th, 2025, i was mostly only watching "The Rookie" and any major deaths that have happened happened earlier in the first four seasons with captain andersen and jackson as well as other less sadder deaths with armstrong, rosalind, jason, and monica. Given that context, I was really shocked by the reactions to bobby's death and the events and seasons leading up to it, though I didn't think that it was that big of a deal personally since I didn't watch the show at the time

and, in the year and couple months since, during the hiatus before "The Rookie" returned earlier this year, I picked up 2-3 additional shows, though none of which is holding me HOSTAGE like buddie is </3
in reality, i've waited like a couple weeks while season 9 was airing, but even that is killing me honestly (i don't get how some of y'all who've been watching from the start waiting for even bi buck have been doing this). only other similar experience i've had is watching the first few seasons of "Law and Order: Special Victims Unit" and giving up once i've realized that 27 seasons in, the closest they've gotten is a near kiss in season 24 and them continuing to exchange emotional "i love yous", even as a straight couple on network television 🫩🫠

for context, i've been watching the rookie since season 2, back when the first glimpses of the will they/won't they of chenford had started (mostly due to the chemistry between the actor/actress on the show, much like with the actors mentioned here)

provided the context above, chenford lowkey only took around 3 seasons despite all of the breakups and trauma they're lowkey GOING through rn. given having waited around six seasons for a little bit of happiness, ig it isn't that bad of a trade; on the other hand, buddie is glacially slowburning even as someone who just recently started watching the show 🫩

if we're gonna be honest, there were plenty of opportunities for buddie to start getting the ball rolling (ex: 4x14, 7x04, 8x06, and so much more). while 8x06 would've been my personal favorite, with so many little moments here and there that could've snowballed into something substantial at the end when buck shows up with beer heartbroken and eddie partying it up (lmao). though, as of far, there's little to nothing even indicating of any canon possibilities, though if anything were to happen it would probably have to start with eddie questioning his sexuality in some form
^ my personal favorites on this happening though would be either eddie seeing buck in a new light when the four of them (buck, eddie, chris, and theo) are hanging out and someone tells eddie that he has a wonderful family (ex: reference to 2x10) orr a jealousy-driven realization, mirroring buck's arc where seeing buck get heartbroken over men he would probably deem as not being worth buck's time would cause him to get weirdly possessive or unsettled over his own possible feelings for buck and how it might affect their friendship considering how when buck first came out to him, he said that nothing would change

my hope is that they follow a similar arc as with chenford in season five, though any confessions and/or realizations wouldn't probably happen till around the season break/mid-way point, which could also serve as a really good cliffhanger with a nice canon will they/won't they. then come christmas with hopefully eddie coming to realize that his conflicting feelings with regards to buck might be even bigger/messier/complicated than he could've imagined 🫣😮‍💨
