There was always a level of cringe to Name That Tune à la Jane Krakowski and the awkward commentary before the final round from Randy (may his health improve!). But this new season is just… exceptionally bad in my opinion. Robin Thicke has all the personality and charisma of a wet paper bag; his personality might work on the Masked Singer, surrounded by all those loud personalities, but it does NOT fit the vibe of this show. Not to mention that when he sings… I assumed he was way better than what he’s shown here! And Jane kicked the cringe up about ten notches (no matter how hard she tries to make it be sexy, there’s NOTHING sexy about saying “Bid a Note”.)

The only reason I’m still watching is for the fun of playing along 😂 What do y’all think?

I love hockey (both the romance subgenre and the sport, haha). I love dystopian. I’ve been thinking lately about a plot that would combine the two, more likely YA than for adult audiences. However, I’m wondering if it’s a fool’s errand since I can’t remember ever seeing two genres like that smooshed together on the bookstore shelves before? What do you guys think? Is it worth giving it a try or, from a publishing standpoint, would it be a waste of time.

I’m going to preface this by saying that I know that the myths are basically just human fanfiction of the gods and that I believe the source of my feeling this way is some sort of unpacked ex-Christian trauma I’ve yet to overcome.

Anyway, I’m a writer and I especially love the fantasy genre and otherworldly type stories. On more than one occasion, I thought it might be fun to write a novel involving the gods (I’m Kemetic so most likely the Netjeru, but possibly others). However, when I try to plot ideas out I get this… fear type feeling, like I might offend the gods or portray them in a wrong way or a way they didn’t like. As I said, I know that the myths (and then things like the Odyssey) are basically exactly that, but I wouldn’t be setting out to write a myth so maybe that’s also playing a part in it?

I know I’d have a lot of fun with stories like that, but I can’t seem to get past these feelings. Thoughts? Or can anyone else relate?

I’m in the broom closet so it’s incredibly rare that I can make physical offerings to the Netjeru (I’m a Kemetic pagan), and I’ve felt like I’ve been especially slacking in my devotion in general lately. So I got to thinking that maybe I could meditate as offerings? Rather than focus solely on my breathing (which I struggle with greatly due to intrusive thoughts and ADHD), I’d work in thoughts of their names, epithets, etc.

I tried it with Hathor tonight and it was such a special experience. And it made me realize that even though it’s meant as a devotional offering, they can use it as a form of prayer, too. I felt clarity on something without even asking about it. Truly a special experience! Has anybody else ever done something like this?

Are there any games out there similar to SIMHorseRacing? The changes they made with the new game year absolutely ruined it for me, but I loved how the game used to function and I’m hoping there might be something out there like it? Preferably browser based but I’m open to anything. Horse showing rather than horse racing is also okay (and maybe even preferred for a change)! I’m aware of Flying For Home.

I’ve been writing, primarily original fiction and roleplay formats, for over 15 years. I’m ashamed to say that I haven’t finished a story in literal years because I’ll either get a new idea I like better or mental health/life kicks in and drafts stay unfinished, blah blah blah.

But a few years ago a friend convinced me to try writing fanfiction, which I’ve enjoyed reading for years. She thought I would enjoy it and the fact that I could post on ao3 might motivate me to stick with a story longer (though I expressed how nervous I was to upload there). Last year around this time, I started working on a “longfic”… and about an hour ago, I finished it!! It even hit a word count of 52,266 words! I’m just so happy and proud of myself, and I’m really hoping I can use this momentum to keep marching on with the novel I’m currently working on because I just proved to myself that I CAN finish what I start if I find a way to keep myself motivated and just stick with it.

I just really wanted to celebrate in a space that would understand! I know fanfiction gets a lot of flack… but I’ve had so much fun with this story and I really think it’s going to have a positive effect on my original fiction.

I hope I used the right flare. I’m 28F with oily/acne prone skin. I’ve tried SO many moisturizers over the years and every single one has made me break out. Tatcha, some of the Walmart brands, Clinique, and others I’ve forgotten at this point. Unless it’s in my t-zone, I break out, and even then I’ve broken out on occasion but I dry out there sometimes so I deal with it. I’m lazy when it comes to skincare (I just want to wash my face and be done with it lol), but with pushing 30 I know I need to start doing something.

Does anybody have any moisturizers you’d recommend for super sensitive skin like mine?

I’m not even sure if that’s the right description/name for them, but it’s all I could think of lol Does anybody else love reading one shots (or tbh even fics) that focus more on the character’s inward reactions, thoughts, etc. to canon events than their interactions with other characters? Like heavy on the narrative and inner monologue instead of actions and dialog sort of things. Because I adore reading stuff like that, possibly because I love see how other people’s headcanons compare to mine but mostly just because I love deep diving into the brain of a character. Especially a side character/anybody other than the main character. I love writing them, too. They’re fun experiments in mastering a character.

Anybody else enjoy fics like these? Whether reading, writing, or both.

How did they not mention that Peter looks so much like a younger Drew?!

Okay maybe a dumb question but… should I count a day during my period where I have 0 flow as being a period day? Because for years no matter what, on the third day I’d have nothing for around 24 hours, whether the period went for 7 or the past couple years 5, counting the no flow day.

Now the past 6 months or so my period’s been completely different. And I had two days with no bleeding (not back to back) last month which pushed it to 8 days, and I know that’s not normal. But if I didn’t count the days where there was nothing after it started, it would have been a 5 day period (just not consecutively). So I don’t know what to think.

Should I continue counting the no flow day(s) as a period day like I’ve been all my menstruating life or have I been wrong all along and I shouldn’t be counting them?

Did the development of the dam that prevents the Nile from flooding have any sort of impact/effect of Kemeticism and its practices? Is it something that would have, strictly from a religious perspective, mortified the ancient Egyptians? TIA!

I genuinely don’t see the point. Malarkey had to cook for it, which was a detriment because everybody else got to rest, and then went home without any benefit? Every season I’ve questioned what the point of it was.

It was a no brainer years ago when I first got my driver's license and was asked if I wanted to be an organ donor. My family has been helped by organ donation or would have been had options been there, and in general I just think it's a good thing (for me personally, no judgment for those who don't) to do. However, I was a Christian back then and I got thinking, especially after reading some stuff... if my heart is donated, will that affect the weighing of the heart ceremony? That is if the myths are true as far as the afterlife, which for this question let's assume they are. TIA!

Does anybody know why the statistics area was removed from the Ubisoft connect hub? Because every googled source for trying to see how much of the story I've completed in Origins comes up as "look under the statistics section after selecting the game" but it's literally nowhere. Why would Ubisoft remove something like that??

In the game Assassin's Creed: Origins, which is based in Egypt during the time of Cleopatra (roughly), there are several temples to the Netjeru and iconography/statues throughout the game map. As somebody who is in the broom closet, it has been a wonderful experience to be able to see those representations of the Netjeru I'm devoted to (though I'm saddened by the lack of a temple for Anubis, though I digress) because it gives me an opportunity to just pray, admire, and appreciate without being suspicious to my family. It probably sounds silly, but it means a lot to me.

Anyways, aside from the Netjeru I work with, I really haven't felt anything (aside from just like an "Oh, wow, this is cool" lol) for the statues, locations, etc. for the Netjeru I'm not devoted to. However, I just came across a temple for Thoth and I was overcome by an almost strange feeling of peace, comfort, and perhaps even awe and wonder. While I'm usually not one of those "Is ___ reaching out to me?" this was such a unique experience that I wanted to pitch it to the sub to get others' thoughts on it. I am a writer (novel and screen), overall creative type, and I practice (also in the broom closet) magic, though my practice works with Hathor. TIA!
