Catching these…

Catching these…

Even just the shells. Even though we definitely shouldn’t be using our phones at the stoplight and pay phones definitely aren’t flowers…catching these still feels like bloomscrolling. Not like urban blight snark. Not like nostalgia. Not like hoarding. 🥰

It was painful telling myself someone else could rescue these.

Church rummage sales are often picked up in bulk by thrift chains…and then either marked way up or sent to the landfill.

And.

We have to be collectors, not hoarders, and it’s hard. 🫥

In …working order?!

It’s fun to meditate on whether they should have been less safe at a trolley station 🚉

My friends and family who are struggling with ‘creating.’

I don’t want to keep screaming “Stop expecting good-faith arguments from sociopaths who want to replace all art and discourse with THEIR meme app.”

And.

I have a very good friend who I’m having very long, careful conversations with, trying to explain that I’m happy if he can get joy out of using software to generate art…

And.

It’s painful to have to explain to him that he’s gonna have to make a video of himself investing the time in the process of ‘generating’ the images before he can claim that he is making the images.

Any advice that might be more helpful to them?

Sellers might be…

…keeping prices high on certain things to discourage kids? Might be a moot point by now. In any case, this ‘kind of thing’ drove the world market so much that it’s hard not to value the object beyond the content.

Seen these kinds of collections at the county fair…

…for decades. They’re starting to feel different now. It made me want to give the collector a hug.

Seeing these kinds of things in drive bars…

…almost makes me wish my body hadn’t quit drinking. It also explains why I trained my hands for doom playlists rather than combo breakers 😅

Done By Humans

Ok, it was found on one of the new twitters, but it’s the kind of thing that feels like the necessary other half to telling the ai pimps that they’re telling us what they are, not providing a different perspective.

Is there a more efficient way to ask this question?

I don’t want to keep feeding the bad faith argument Ouroboros, and for a long time that has meant either pretending the World Wide Web is only a fad, or pretending that it’s a good idea to sell a website, or an app, or a predictive language model marketed as a computer with a subservient genie inside.

I’m not asking how well the movie Weird Science has aged, but go ahead and answer that, too, if you like.

I am mostly asking how many engineers think they’re working under a deeply entrenched NEED to believe we can have an ‘intelligence’ inherently removed from human needs that simultaneously removes the user from human accountability.

DEPRESSION IS THE REAL MONSTER

Doesn’t need a nsfw tag does it? You can’t see Ronnie’s butt BUT #depression tags don’t really seem safe for work anymore after being normal for work for so long.

Not sure if linking to brilliant comics is ok. Am sure I’ve BEEN done treating comics like memes…and treating memes like human contact 😒
