How does one add “x minutes remaining in chapter” for books imported in calibre?

Kobo Libra Colour

When reading books, it says on the top of the screen “0 minutes remaining in chapter” and it will not refresh. Is there a setting, script or addon available to show the estimated time remaining in chapter, or do I just have to live with it?

(Not that it’s a big deal- just a “would be nice” thing to know for future reference)

“Getting good” with controllers is substantially more impressive than a mouse and keyboard

In this case, using controllers in multiplayer FPS games and actually being good is more impressive than a mouse and keyboard player doing the same.

With mouse and keyboard, it’s harder to get into the technical stuff and harder to find your rhythm, if you prefer high sensitivity or low sensitivity, but once you do and you practice enough, it becomes muscle memory. The flicks you make with the mouse just boils down to “how far do I need to quickly move my mouse” and if you do that enough times, yeah you’ll very quickly develop hand-eye coordination and improve.

With controllers, it’s not that simple. Those who choose to use controllers have the downside of turning analog sticks, making it harder to be precise. That’s why it’s more impressive when controller users are topping the leaderboards. Yes you can argue that they use aim assist and it doesn’t count, but mouse and keyboards have been practicing their aim assist and using it as well - their muscle memory, as stated above. It is objectively harder to be good with a controller, therefore it is impressive when controller players top the leaderboard.

I just learned two very specific things the very hard way

  1. when you first get the Speeder (where I am) try not to test the physics engine and see if you could crash into random poles.

  2. the speeder can get, uh.. stuck. And soft lock you. And force you to load an auto save and hope to god the bike isn’t still stuck.

Digital card games that are compatible with Linux

Marking this as "multi-platform" since it makes sense to my concussion brain

I am looking for a TCG experience on Steam (or otherwise - linux) that runs well on Linux. Online 1v1 card battler (free preferred but obvious in-game transactions are always going to be a thing)

I would also like it to allow for theorycrafting - TCG's always evolve with metas, card bans, different rotations, stuff like that. I would like it to where I can have a meta deck, but also have the freedom to craft my own ideas without feeling like I am left behind.

Don't really care about mana systems - I am willing to learn/adapt

What is that one comfort game for you?

You know which one I'm talking about: the one you can turn on when everything around you is falling apart; the world you can rely on to escape your own; the characters you love or hate - it's that one game or couple of games that YOU know you can trust to bring you out of that bad feeling.

I somehow don't have the proper NVIDIA drivers

As far as I can tell, CachyOS installs a driver called linux.cachyos.nvidia.open using CachyHello, which I thought I did because my games are performing great.

But take a look at my output when I see which NVIDIA drivers are installed:

local/egl-gbm 1.1.3-1.1
The GBM EGL external platform library
local/egl-wayland 4:1.1.21-1.1
   EGLStream-based Wayland external platform
local/egl-x11 1.0.5-1.1
NVIDIA XLib and XCB EGL Platform Library
local/lib32-nvidia-580xx-utils 580.159.03-1
   NVIDIA drivers utilities (32-bit) (580xx)
local/lib32-opencl-nvidia-580xx 580.159.03-1
OpenCL implemention for NVIDIA (32-bit) (580xx)
local/libva-nvidia-driver 0.0.16-1.2
VA-API implementation that uses NVDEC as a backend
local/libvdpau 1.5-4.1
   Nvidia VDPAU library
local/libxnvctrl-580xx 580.126.18-1
   NVIDIA NV-CONTROL X extension (580xx)
local/linux-firmware-nvidia 1:20260410-1
Firmware files for Linux - Firmware for NVIDIA GPUs and SoCs
local/nvidia-580xx-dkms 580.159.03-2
NVIDIA kernel modules - module sources (580xx)
local/nvidia-580xx-settings 580.126.18-1
Tool for configuring the NVIDIA graphics driver (580xx)
local/nvidia-580xx-utils 580.159.03-2
   NVIDIA drivers utilities (580xx)
local/opencl-nvidia-580xx 580.159.03-2
   OpenCL implemention for NVIDIA (580xx)

What exactly did I do wrong?

I just want to glaze this OS for a second

I'm not even going to lie, I installed this on a whim - I saw a Youtube video regarding gaming performance a couple days ago and I just told myself, "yeah, screw this, I'm going to wipe Windows and install this".

So that's what I did.

CachyOS has been my daily driver for the past couple days. Keep in mind, I know nothing about Arch Linux, let alone Linux in general. But I installed it to 1) prove to myself that I can still learn new things and 2) Windows was genuinely pissing me off.

The Wiki provided for CachyOS was more confusing than helpful, I had to Google most of if not all of my questions, but I managed to set everything up the way I want to ie. automount drives, rename all of my drives for clarity, Steam and Vesktop are installed, and the most important thing - games run so much better on this OS than it ever did on Windows. My entire PC would crash playing a simple game like Counter-Strike on Windows, but on CachyOS I'm able to play Final Fantasy 7 Remake on high settings, 1440p at 120fps. Sure there's stutters, but I'd gladly take that than a full system crash.

And, another really weird thing - I was under the impression that my hard drive was slow - on Windows whenever I downloaded games onto this specific hard drive, it would *always* download at a snails pace compared to downloading onto my SSD, so I couldn't download many games on there if at all. On CachyOS, it somehow improved the speed of it by at least 10x? Windows showed a disc download on Steam of maybe 30Mbps if I was lucky, whereas CachyOS showed upwards of 500Mbps. On the same drive. I downloaded all of my Steam library onto that hard drive in maybe 4 hours total yesterday, when on Windows it would take all day to download one game.

I'm still learning, Linux isn't the easiest to learn for someone who has little to no coding background (I googled why pacman -S downloads and the Wiki for pacman doesn't explain why or what it means, just shows that it means download - that's how I learn, reading what it means and why it does that improves my memory) but I have full confidence that if I can set this all up in a weekend, then anyone could. I am very impressed with this OS.

Issue logging in certain websites with different browsers

I can't seem to log-in to my Microsoft account using Chromium-based browsers. I tried using Chrome and Vivaldi, both show an error "please try with a different device or other authentication method to signin"

When I use Firefox, it logs me in no problem, however I can't use Xbox Cloud using Firefox (claims my browser is not supported)

Why does nearly every website I go to ask me to complete a Captcha, even if I've logged in there recently?

I didn't know the proper flair for this, so I put Windows (could be networking, I'm not too sure)

I know why websites have a Captcha system in place, but I don't understand why I'm getting flagged or forced to do one every time I visit a website, especially one I frequent (either previously in the day or previously in the week). It's just started recently (from what I remember - battling a head injury and things are fuzzy at the moment memory wise) the only thing I've done differently is change Windows users but I highly doubt that has anything to do with this.

Shortcut for automating AirPods listening mode at certain times in the day

Is this a thing? I know it's as simple as "putting the airpods in and holding the stem" in the easiest case but I would like if there were a way to have a shortcut where it would automatically put my AirPods 4 ANC to Noise Cancellation at certain times in the day and back to Transparency at other times.

My xbox controller acts as a mouse on windows and nothing I do stops it (other than unplugging it). Left joystick acts as the cursor and right joystick acts as the scroll wheel. I also noticed the mouse snaps to my main monitor if I do anything like minimize a window on my second monitor.

Things I have tried:

  • Disabling steam input
  • Removing/disabling drivers in Device Manager (even hidden ones)
  • deleting a driver in system32 called "xinputhid.sys" (do not recommend this, made me reinstall windows as it stopped recognizing my controller altogether)
  • resetting controller to default by running joy.cpl and clicking "reset to defaults" under advanced

The thing is, I've noticed it only happens when steam is installed. When steam is not installed, it acts as a normal controller, but when I reinstall steam, it acts as a mouse. I made sure everything is off. here is a link to imgur showing all the menus.

Edit to add: The only reason I deleted the "xinputhid.sys" file is because I was playing a game on my PC yesterday using my controller, and my PC crashed (I assumed the green screen of death) and it told me there was a conflict with my controller drivers. Stated "Driver IQRL not less or equal wdf01000.sys" which led me down a rabbit hole to delete "xinputhid.sys", but as stated before it caused more issues than anything.

I haven't put time into a call of duty title since Call of Duty: Modern Warfare (remastered) and the only other one was maybe Black Ops on my PS3. I recently got gamepass ultimate and decided to install Black Ops 7 onto my Xbox (200+gb.. damn.)

Are the maps supposed to be so big, yet so empty? The games I got, it was maybe a 6v6 at most but the maps were giant compared to how many people were playing. I'd run around and see absolutely nobody for a couple minutes. It's a genuine question, it feels like the maps in this game are too big for its own good. Do I just have to get used to it?

I have a decent PC so I would get PC Game pass alongside this, but:

  • I would be gaming at my desk with my main monitor being a 1440p 170hz monitor
  • Would mainly be storing games digitally, I have many portable HDD's I could use for storage
  • Frame rate is preferred over graphical capability
  • I am used to PS5 not sure if that matters but would prefer if it ran similarly to that ie. frame rate
  • I have the Xbox Elite Controller Series 2
  • Games played would be RPG's and FPS mainly, both single-player and multiplayer

Judging by these, which Series would be better for me?

I am 26, but I seriously cannot type on an on-screen keyboard on a phone. I type slower with my physical keyboard, sure, but I'm more accurate and the tactile feeling of the keys feel better.
