How to set up permanent pathway lights that will work daily and for light shows?

I already have some “dumb” pathway lights around the little sidewalk that goes from my driveway to front porch. I was wondering how I could incorporate (and if anybody else has done it) some pixel pathway lights that can be controlled nightly to just display soft white lights but then also easily incorporate with xlights during the holidays so I don’t have to swap anything out.

What’s the best for pet hair and carpet?

I currently use a couple iRobot J9’s with no mopping ability and they are pretty damn good at vacuuming pet hair from medium/low carpet. Most of the vacuum and mopping combos I tried couldn’t handle the vacuuming part but were solid at mopping and vacuuming my vinyl floors. I’m just getting tired of having one or the other and figured it’s been a couple years so surely somebody had a good experience with a robot vacuum to handle medium to long pet hair on carpet while also being solid at mopping. Most of the review videos seem biased .

What to do for a spider web prop?

Just curious and doing some very early shopping to get ahead of doing my first Halloween display this fall. What do y’all use for spiderwebs, do you just use a mega tree and buy a spider prop topper or something? Or do you just run pixels from a corner of your roof to the ground like those store bought spider web lights?

What’s the key for not burning everything?

Got my blackstone a few weeks ago, I did smash burgers with pretty good success but that’s hard to mess up. Tried breakfast and burnt the shit out of the bacon and the sunny side up eggs were overcooked on the bottom and hash brown potatoes were kinda burnt but also kinda soggy. I tried Philly cheese steaks and overcooked the meat. Do you just cook everything low and slow or what am I missing? I’ve watched YouTube videos on cooking stuff and it seems those folks are cranking the burners all the way up but always have perfect looking food. I’m fucking up somewhere here.

Any way to use HA to set internet limits for kids devices?

I’m trying to think of a way to give my kids a pool of time, say 2 hours as an example of internet usage between video game consoles, tablets, etc. once they burn through that 2 hours all the devices are blocked from the network. I can’t find an out of the box solution on my router software. Or if you have any suggestions outside of HA that would be great also. I have an Asus Zen WiFi BT8 mesh system and it has children controls but only content filtering. I am thinking HA handles the time pool then triggers Adguard to block network traffic to their devices

What to use for outdoor fence gate open/close sensors?

I have a vinyl privacy fence in my backyard, the gap between the gate and the fence is too much for my outdoor ring contact sensors. I kinda rigged them up using stronger magnetic bars instead of the magnetic thing the sensor comes with but they’re still finicky and they sometimes trigger being opened when they aren’t open and that sets off automations, or when I close the gate it doesn’t always register as closed so I’m wondering what others might use for this?

▲ 22 r/Visible

Any alternatives to visible you’ve tried and liked? The service issues are getting unbearable for me.

I have dead zones around town that cause my phone and wife’s phone to just be completely useless. They’re total dead zones and then forget having signal in any type of store. I was at a Target last night and having issues finding a product so I fire up the Target app to find the aisle of this product, but low and behold there’s no signal so I had to find a store kiosk and lookup where a product was. Then I forgot the name of another item I needed for our baby so I went to call the wife and ask her what the item was, but lucky me, no signal so I had to walk to the front of the store and almost go outside just to call her. I’m about ready to pull the plug and try something else.
