The Reformatory by Tananarive Due

This book really fits the subreddit. It was very hard to put down, constantly just one more page.

It is the story of a reformatory school, using the term school very loosely, in North Florida during the Jim Crow era.

The book depicts great cruelty and injustices. The language is true to the time period of the 1950s but the writing and story is excellent.

Well worth your time on this one

Someone complained about my shoes

Playing in an indoor tournament yesterday where an orange ball is used. This was mixed doubles. After beating a team 11-1, 11-2 evidently the male of that team complained about my shoes as he left.

I have worn these shoes in multiple tournaments, no one has ever said a word. The color per Ascis is Coral Red.

Playing Men's Doubles today changing shoes just to avoid drama.

Doozy of a storm

Well that was a doozy of a storm. At least it was at my house. Little flash flooding. Lots of thunder and lightning and to top it off of course some power outage.

Now it's a wait and see how long it takes for ngemc to get our power back on. In the meantime I'm sitting in my truck, charging my phone and my wife's. Don't worry, I have the garage door shut to make sure no weather gets in. Just kidding. It's open for safety

Getting ready for a tournament

Had early morning pickleball getting ready for a tournament with mixed doubles partner. She and I have not had any opportunity to play, so I had driven to her (about 45 minutes) to play with her group. They are all 3.5+ players all 50-65 years of age.

This guy I was playing against got really upset. Said hey. We are all friends here. You're hitting too hard. You're going to hurt somebody.

I was hitting about 75% and not close to anyone. I kept trying to compliment him on his play, he kept grumbling. Afterwards he said again we are all friends. You could put someone eye out. It did upset me that anyone would think I'm purposely trying to hurt someone in a social setting even if it's competitive Pickleball.

My partner that I was there for asked what he said. She apologized for him, said he'd grumbled about a couple people before me

I had MANY MANY opportunities for body bags didn't take a one. I can tell you this, if I ever play him in a tournament, he will regret it.

Sorry. Still pissed. Everyone else was super nice

I couldn't put down The Lesser Dead

I just finished The Lesser Dead. Excellent book. Would love a book that is as well written. I flew through it, was hard to put down.

It was a book that I hated for it to end

I'm open to suggestions, vampires, zombies, or something I just don't know yet.

The Lesser Dead

The Lesser Dead is the best vampire book I've read in a very long time. Just as Interview with the Vampire chilled me in the factual way it talked about vampires, what's true what is legend, The Lesser Dead has some of this truthfulness to it.

It is brutal. It is very exciting. Definitely a page turner. Glad I read it, if you choose to do so, hope you enjoy it as well.

Just starting The Lesser Dead

"The secret is, vampires are real and I am one". Just starting this book by Christopher Buehlman. I've read a couple of his and really like it. Saw this one on a book subreddit added on TBR.

After reading the synopsis including that line, I am down.

Tillie the All Time Teller

Does anyone else remember Tillie the All Time Teller? Interesting fact, Susan Bennett—the voice of Tillie became the original voice of Siri

Act of Oblivion

Act of Oblivion by Robert Harris takes place surrounding the death of King Charles I. The main story follows the search for those that sign his death warrant in particular Colonels Goffe and Walley who fled to the new world.

Lots of good history and a good story too

Looking for a book buddy, read 58 so far

I've read 58 so far. I have multiple series going, bounce between them so that I don't get tired of them. Dungeon Crawler Carl, Zombie Fallout are a couple of them. Like historical fiction.

Love to get a good totally unexpected read, something I would never know to read. Demon Copperhead, Poisonwood Bible, The Nightingale I'd throw into that category

Anyway. Love to hear what you like and don't like. If you are interested reach out
