Away end at Fulham

I have had an animated discussion with a non-QPR friend of mine about the away end at Fulham.

I am certain that the away games we played there in the away end didn’t have a roof, my friend is adamant that they did.

Can anyone help?

Illinois: What happened to Daniel Dufrene?

Hi all,

I've been reading up about the Illini's win over Ohio State in 2007, and started thinking about Daniel Dufrene, who helped to pound the Buckey D that day.

I have found out, sadly that he passed away aged 29. The reports had him dying: "Peacefully", but I have no idea whether it was from illiness or something more mental health-related.

Can anyone help me?

As a QPR fan….

I say bring on the plastics.

Come along, spend a ton of money in the club shop, take the (odd) video showing your time at Loftus Road, and get involved.

Then tell all of your friends to come over and support us.

We need plastic fans.

Smoking at the park

I have to say that when I was there I was reasonably happy to see how little people smoked away from the allotted areas.

Sure, there were a few, but it was hardly the 1980s.

As a tip for smokers (I am a smoker), I have a tip. Smoke outside the parks, put your butts in the bins and don’t be an asshole. And more’s the case, if you REALLY need to walk around and have one, cup it so the kids can’t see you.

Seeing this one coming…

A few weeks ago our trip to DLP was lovely, although rather shambolic when it came to water when the weather was hot.

Last year, the weather was boiling. I sent a note to the head of parks essentially saying: ‘You need to do something about this with rising temperatures’.

Look I know that are a couple of small spray spots and lots of water fountains, but there
Should be fans over where people line up for rides. And covers over where people line for the Lion King theatre.

DLP know that they have to sort out this problem. Temperatures are going to keep rising over the years. They can scream ‘Force Majeur’ all they want, but there needs to be
MORE done. It might mean adding more trees, or getting people to hand out free water. If they don’t, DLP will start losing customers because of its basic negligence.

Season tickets

How much do seasons tickets cost, and how many games do you get to, and are they worth it?

I’m a fan from the UK who pays 700 notes to see his crappy soccer team, so I’m just wondering….

Everything after Goscinny/Uderzo…sucks

Having spent way too many man hours on the toilet re-reading my Asterix, I have come to one conclusion: After Goscinny passed away, the whole thing should have stopped.

This new fonts and the sharper detail is making this feel more Marvel/DC/Alix (ie serious).

The Picts one sucks. The one about the Chieftains Daughter isn’t good, and the Sky Falling On their head featuring ET should never be talked about again. And then there was this compendium of Asterix and Obelix’s adventures (under the guise of Obelix’s birthday) that felt like a massive cash-in.

CarPlay

Dear all,

I have a problem.

I have a Santa Fe Hybrid 2026 (non-snazzy version) and I’ve paired it with CarPlay. Unfortunately, that’s changed it to the Hyundai’s interfsce instead of Apple’s making it difficult if not impossible to use Apple Maps or other stuff that I am comfortable with in my other car.
To put no finer point on it, it’s really, really annoying me.

Can someone help?

Pinocchio ride

The ride was deeply disturbing. I honestly would have given an instruction against young kids going to it.

It wasn’t about any sort of rollercoaster, but it ranked with ‘Tower Of Terror’ for ****-upness.

Newport Bay Hotel

Stayed at NBH.

Staff nice. Stayed at Compass Club. The people operating that office - Frederica and Mateo - could not have been nicer.

The pool was ace, the people in the CC breakfast were lovely, and it was a nice vibe. Our room was spacious enough for two double beds and a cot.

Our room has two major flaws:

  1. No mats in the bath. Doesn’t help my children from sliding around bath time, or me getting the fear of God showering with my epilepsy. Yes, there were some rooms that had showers. And it’s fine that we weren’t in one of them…just a bath mat would have been nice.

  2. A light that kept the toilet and the entrance to toilet on one switch. So a curtain was the only thing stopping light shining through and keeping my kids from getting to sleep. In other words: The small things.

Room service and the food was excellent, and the rest of the staff seemed lovely.

The poster

Does anyone know how I can get a hold of the poster? They didn’t do it in the cinema I went to in the UK and I’m dying to get a hold of it. Or someone to send me a coloured PDF so I can print it out myself.

Iceman

I don’t understand why people aren’t blaming Iceman for Goose’s death.

He refused to take the shot on the Mig, and the jet wash would have been avoided.

Just seen Top Gun again..

Reminded me why I love it so much. Was on the edge of my seat from when Maverick is getting consoled by Goose’s wife.

They talk about lack of chemistry between Cruise and Kelly McGillis, but for me there’s more than a lot of his films. The ‘love scene’ remains utterly laughable, though.

Oh, and the soundtrack still ROCKS.

An easy way to get rid of Mandy

I’ve thought long and hard about Sorkin’s reason to simply write out Mandy for Season 2, and I still fervently believe it was a crappy thing to do.

It would have been easy with one bit in S1E1.

Assistant: ‘Where’s Mandy? Is she OK?’
Someone: ‘Yeah. She’s gone home. Couldn’t bear to see Josh like that, any anyway, she’s external and wouldn’t have gotten in’.

A few days later.

CJ: ‘Well I have some good news for Josh. Mandy’s not coming back, but she does wish him the best of recoveries’.

Done.

Cooling

Last year in May I went with my family to Paris and it was horrifically hot - and this was before they got battered by the months-long heatwave!

Anyway, DLP came supplied with only two cooling areas. One was FrenchLand (as I like to call it), and I can’t for the life of me remember another one.

Alternative places to eat

Hi all, our family are reticent to dropping 400 bills a day (or this is what it seems!) on food, and we were wondering about what you’d recommend as the smaller buffet restaurants around the place where you don’t need a reservation.

What places (I’m looking for something non-generalist à la a buffet restaurant recommendation) would you recommend and why?

By the way, at Disney you can bring water in etc.
