Farewell, My Turnabout is by far the most overrated case in Iris Hawthorne: Ace Attorney imo
Now, I wanna preface this by saying: Overrated ≠ Bad
I like Farewell, My Turnabout; it's a solid case, I just do not get why I often see it mentioned when talking about the best case of all time!
Here are some of my issues with the case in no particular order:
- I hate how Franziska gets sidelined in favor of Manfred. Why does he show up 2/3rds of the way through the game??? He seems like a final boss.
- It uses Pearl as a "Damsel in Distress"...for the first time in this game! It's not enough, innit???
- The whole kidnapping plotline feels very contrived and feels like it's just a cheap way to add tension/stakes. Like, why not write "Shelly wuz here" on the bandanna??? Also, why kidnap Pearl at all??? He should've kidnapped Maya instead.
- Dahlia is just...plain stupid??? She kidnapped a child in a crowded public building an only got away with it due to luck. Next you'll be telling me that she can't notice her own hair colour.
- This case feels like a finale, even though it isn't. The subplot with Miles Edgeworth still hasn't gone anywhere.
how can i consume ace attorney
i've heard switch cards taste bitter can someone help me of please
Generator selects traits from the wrong category
My Set Ablaze OC Generator chooses a species using a .selectOne command when generating a result, and saves it as "S". This is used to determine which traits the character will have from later down the list. Problem is, characters with "{Burning Talons|Golden Hearts|Long Shadows|Solar Eclipse} firepie" exclusively have powers from the "dreamseer" category. The relevant parts of the code like this:
CharacterData
[S = Species.selectOne, ''] <b>Name:</b> [Names.selectOne]
<b>Appearance:</b> {A} [Stature] [S] with [ExtraFeatures.selectOne]
<b>Colours:</b> [Colours.selectUnique(1,2).joinItems(" and ").sentenceCase] feathers, {a} [Colours] beak, and [Colours] legs
<b>Power:</b> [Powers.selectOne.sentenceCase]
Species
dreamseer^[SDC.checked]
{Burning Talons|Golden Hearts|Long Shadows|Solar Eclipse} firepie^[SFP.checked]
venompie^[SVP.checked]
winterpie^[SWP.checked]
[Later]
Powers
DS^[S == "dreamseer"]
dream-walking
future sight
telekinesis
telepathy
FP^[S == "{Burning Talons|Golden Hearts|Long Shadows|Solar Eclipse} firepie"]
{red^2|orange^1|yellow^0.5|green^0.25|blue^0.125|purple^0.062} fire
VP^[S == "venompie"]
{middling|potent|weak} venom in {a barbed tongue|fangs}
WP^[S == "winterpie"]
{clear|cloudy^5|dirty} ice
Is this a glitch, or am I doing something wrong?
Is it even unfair to accuse Maya in The Golden Court?
She's a spirit medium, which is basically witchcraft.
Looking for fanfics with unusual character interactions
By that, I mean fanfics that prominently feature characters who never/barely interacted in canon, and rarely interact in other fan works. Like rarepairs, but they don't have to be romantic. I'm more invested in the 21st century games than The Great Ace Attorney, but I'll read fics based on the latter, too. Also, I'm not interested in porn.
I ask because I've come to realise that my two favourite Ace Attorney fanworks are both roleswaps that start with someone dying horribly... and more relevantly, feature unusual character interactions. They're also both unfinished, so I want to scratch an itch. Here's what they are, if you need an idea of what I like:
- Iris Hawthorne: Ace Attorney, a fic where Iris is the new Phoenix, and her social circle includes Ini Miney and Viola Cadaverini.
- Astro Boy Edgeworth AU, a comic where Gregory unofficially adopts Metis.
What's the colour palette in the bottom-right?
I was looking through the developmental version's files, when I noticed all the pattern palettes now have an extra blue and green one, as well as a set of solid lilac sprites above it. What are they used for? Are they placeholders?
Oops! All Royal Woodlands!
I've never seen this many hexagons of the same biome next to each other. Is this supposed to happen?
Silverwing: The Graphic Novel
I've been aware of the books for years, but a few days ago I discovered the first one has a graphic novel adaptation and decided to check it out because I read comics much quicker. Here are my thoughts:
- I like its use of colour, especially the rainbow-coloured echo chamber flashback.
- How faithful is it to the original book?
- Usually graphic novel adaptations of kids' book series come out annually, but this came out three years ago and there's no sign of a Sunwing adaptation.
The meaning of Kokone's name
It means "heart sound", right?
I ask because it's the Japanese given name of Athena from Ace Attorney, who can hear people's emotions. It's written as 心音, which means "heart sound".
This meaning would make sense for Kokone Nolastname, who can hear people's thoughts, except I don't know which (if any) kanji it's written with. Has anyone read the original Japanese version of Animal Signal?
Favourite cornerstones
I prefer boring, but practical ones that have a simple effect with no downsides that's applicable in many situations, such as Crowded Houses, Prayer Book, and Peasant Supplies. I also tend to choose Cannibalism and Bone Tools when I predict that my settlement will go horribly badly wrong.
Is there a version of the orange poster with the English title?
The one used on Manga Plus. I ask because I'd like to replace the current image on the TV Tropes page, which is chapter 1's splash page cut in half, so it's missing half of the logo.
What do you think of my Ace Attorney AU ideas?
I just came up with a couple of really clever AU ideas that I'm surprised no-one's written before.
- What if Iris' boyfriend was a prosecutor and the cravat guy was a defense attorney?
- What if Iris' boyfriend's great-grandpa or whatever died on the S.S. Burya and the headband guy went to London as planned?
Who's the blue-eyed cream tabby in TNP #1?
(ANSWERED: I KNOW IT'S THORNCLAW NOW)
I thought they were Sandstorm until Sandstorm appeared a few pages later. I can't figure out who this is from the wiki, and I don't think their name is ever mentioned.
Why did they change Naruhodo Ryuichi's voice?
I just started playing the DS remake of Gyakuten Saiban, and I noticed that Naruhodo Ryuichi is voiced by some white guy in the English translation. What was wrong with his old voice? And why did they change his name to Firebird Correct?
Give me Ace Attorney AU prompts & what-ifs
I'm rewatching a video where someone's Patrons gave her prompts for Warrior Cats alternate universe fanfics, and she fleshes them out. I'd like to do a similar video about Ace Attorney, and I thought this was the easiest place to get noticed.
Here are the conditions:
- They can be based on any game.
- I'm okay with AU prompts that have ships as part of them, but they can't be purely shipping-focused.
- Try to avoid really common AU concepts. (eg: Phoenix is a prosecutor and Edgey is a defender.)
- Also try to avoid crossover-based AUs, because I might not be familiar with the other work.
- I'll be screenshotting the prompts I like the most and putting them in a video. If you don't want your username shown on YouTube, let me know.
How do I remove cloned apps?
My Moto G14's home screen currently has two copies of my mobile provider and four copies of Reddit. I've seen threads saying you can remove apps in settings > apps > advanced settings, but I can't find advanced app settings.
What if Maya died in Turnabout Sisters?
The previous version of this thread was removed for having a spoiler in the title.
A few months ago, I wrote a fanfic called Maya Dies (rated teen) about this exact premise. It's a ~300-word oneshot, but lately I've felt like expanding upon it. What happens next? Here's what I've come up with:
- Mia would be the defendant, meaning Phoenix still has to learn to not rely on her so much.
- Mia channels Maya partly so she has a chance to meet Phoenix, and partly so he can ask her who killed her and take notes.
- Mia instantly recognises Redd White from Maya's description and goes on a roaring rampage of revenge.
- Turnabout Samurai doesn't happen because without Maya, Phoenix doesn't have a motivation to defend Will. (Eddie Fender or whoever takes the case off-screen instead.) As a result, he doesn't invite Phoenix to the tokusatsu party, so Farewell, My Turnabout doesn't happen.
- Morgan hears about Maya's death and pretends to be upset about it, but in private she's celebrating.
- Pearl, meanwhile, doesn't learn that Maya died until the equivalent of Reunion, and Turnabout.
- In the equivalent of Bridge to the Turnabout, Mia yells at Misty. Also, someone wonders out loud, "Wouldn't we be better off without spirit channelling? Fey politics and DL-6 have caused so much suffering..." Someone else responds by listing the good uses of spirit channelling.
Here are some holes I need filling in:
- Who becomes the master next? Morgan would probably declare that the line of succession automatically falls to Pearl, but how does she feel about Mia? Is Morgan so paranoid that she sees Mia, who still has no interest in becoming master, as a threat? Maybe the story could end with Mia, Pearl, and maybe Iris restructuring the Fey clan so there'll never be infighting again.
- What does everyone do for the rest of the first game? I don't want this to turn into yet another Stations of the Canon rehash, but I don't want it to be too bleak either.
- Since Mia isn't dead and he doesn't seem to know Maya prior to Trials and Tribulations, what does Diego Armando do once he wakes up?
