أنا إنجليزيتي منيحة، بس بفكر أتعلم لغة ثانية غير الإنجليزي.

عالميًا وبصورة عامة، شو اللغة اللي مفيد تتقنها بعد الإنجليزي؟

هل الصينية مهمة لدرجة تجعل تعلمها "يسوى"؟ عشانها لغة صعبة وبدها 2200-3000 ساعة عشان تتقنها.

ولا في لغات ثانية؟ وهل تعتقد أنو بس الإنجليزي كافي وما في داعي لغة ثانية؟ للنقاش

I am considering learning Mandarin. I will pay for stuff like YoYo Chinese and Zero to Hero Chinese. I will also use Anki.

I heard that it's impossible to learn tones/pronunciation correctly on your own. Is that true?

If I stick religiously to YoYo Chinese and finish it, and then move to Zero to Hero Chinese, and do it, and practice shadowing Chinese audio daily, will I eventually be able to become understand spoken and written Chinese as well as speak it clearly (as in, be understood, and not be misunderstood due to tonal inaccuracy).

Can I do it 100% without any human feedback?

Please bear with me and be patient because I haven't learned any tonal languages before.

I've been looking for hobbies and something to grind. I feel like my brain is not stimulated enough. The idea of learning a language keeps popping up.

I speak English and Arabic fluently. I want to speak just ONE more language. Not to become a polyglot.

I don't know if I should pick a global language like Spanish or a niche language like Vietnamese. I thought about learning Mandarin but I am certain I can't master the tones/pronunciation on my own and my ability to master the language is handicapped by my ability to pronounce it perfectly so no.

The language must have good content though (online media/communities) because I am not moving anywhere that's not English-speaking or Arabic-speaking. However, no dead languages (Latin) or really really niche languages that are only spoken by a small fraction of people.

One last note, I thought about looking for a language that's specifically rarely learned by an Arabic speaker and maybe get so good at it and learning its culture and stuff that I would write about it in Arabic... something like that?

My IQ is certainly between 108 and 115. I am currently a Pharmacy student. I will graduate in a year, and my only competency is working as a community pharmacist where I fill prescriptions.

I am genuinely considering saving money as I work as a community pharmacist to start a new BSc and major in something that's more substantial and pays more.

What do you guys think?

شسوي؟ أقرأ كتب فارماكولوجي وحدي؟ يعني شنو لازم أسويه؟

مرحبا أنا أشتريت أشتراك سنوي في منصة يوديمي اللي فيها كورسات عن كثير مواضيع منها المواضيع اللي إلها دخل بالكومبيوتر والبرمجة والذكاء الاصطناعي وهيك.

أنا بالأصل طالب صيدلة فيعني مجالي بعيد عن الكومبيوتر بس برضو بدي أستفاد وتكون عندي مهارات يمكن أستفاد منها يومًا ما

تنصحوني أشتغل على الشهادات تبعت الكومبيوتر أو أتعلم لغة أجنبية أو أيش؟

أنا عمري ما قرأت كتاب بالعربي (يعني قارئ أقل من 10 كتب بالعربي) كل الكتب اللي اقرأها بالإنجليزي وعشان هيك أنا طالب جامعي والعربية الفصحى عندي سيئة ما عدا قصة الهاء والتاء المربوطة

تشوفو أنو أتعلم النحو والإملاء وعلوم اللغة العربية عامة وأقرأ الكتب بالعربي مهم؟

أنا بعمل هيك من باب أن الإنجليزية لغة عالمية وكل المعلومات مترجمة إلها وحتى الأشياء اللي موجودة بالعربي مترجمة للإنجليزية كمان وعشان الإنجليزية مطلب جوهري في بيئة العمل

لكن أريد وضع خطة لإتقان كافة علوم اللغة العربية من النحو والبلاغة والعروض ودراستها وحدي من اللابتوب

كيف وأين؟

مثلًا النحو: أبدأ بالآجرومية، ثم قطر الندى، ثم الألفية

وهكذا لباقي العلوم

بدي أبلش قراءة كتب بالعربي والإنجليزي بس المهم بكونو جد مفيدات، ما أحبذ البدء بالروايات والقصص، بدي كتب نون-فكشن تكون جد لما أخلصها أتعلم أشي أو يعني أتحسن في حياتي

الكتاب منيح مع العلم كل تقييماته والريفيوز تبعونه سيئة يمكن عشان العنوان ببين كـ مسبة بس محتوى الكتاب كثير واقعي ويعلمك كيف تنظم تعاملك مع الناس وفق ميلوهم للكسل، وأشياء زي هيك.

كتاب ثاني فادني هو

The 12 Levers: The Complete Psychological Toolkit For Improving Your Life by Spencer Greenberg and Jeremy Stevenson.

في هذا الكتاب الكاتب لخص مئات كتب تحسين الذات بعد تنقيح محتواها والتأكد من علمية أفكار الكتب وأكتشف كل كتب تحسين الذات تتمحور حول 12 موضوع وهو كل موضوع حط أحسن المعلومات اللي قدر ينقحها عليه

يعني بدي كتب زي هيك أنو جد تقرأها تستفاد، مش مجرد كتب مشهورة زي كتاب العادات الذرية اللي كله هبد (قراءته لما نزل بس ناسي محتواه بس بتذكر أنو ما استفاديت منه)

I am suffering from extreme anticipatory anxiety in regards to not being competent enough once I start working.

People around me told me to forget it and just grind until I get the piece of paper that certifies me as a pharmacist and after that I should worry about workplace competence.

It started small but now it's so disabling that I study from several textbooks for the same topic and sometimes at the expense of grades in my uni courses.

Can someone here confirm that things will solve themselves by the time I graduate and I should just study just-in-time and tackle obstacles as they arise, not ahead of time?

Edit: I also came across many posts, I think many of them were from this subreddit where people were complaining "Ugh, so and so are so incompetent!" and I'd be like "Woah, what if that incompetent person one day becomes... me?"

I will sit the GPhC assessment sometime during 2029-2030. I have checked this subreddit and found several recommendations including revisepharma. If I get it now, and keep refining/updating with BNF and practice calculations regularly to keep my mind sharp, will it suffice? Or should I shelf the deliberate prep months before I sit the exam?

راح أتخرج بحلول شهر 3 عام 2028 ووراها راح أشتغل على الهجرة لألمانيا

هسا يعني أن شاء الله ببداية 2029 مفروض أكون بألمانيا.

وبحلول 2030 راح أخلص المعادلة وأصير صيدلي هناك

بس بهاي الفترة أريد أطور مهارة ثانية أقدر أسوي بيها مشروع إلى جانب عملي الرسمي كصيدلي ولازم هاي المهارة ما تندثر وتبقى استثمار ليوم ما أقدر أشتغل بيها

أريد بالتفصيل الممل الشغلة اللي مفروض أشتغل عليها

حتى لو برمجة باللغة الصينية أني من هسا راح أجيب كورساتها وأتدرب وأسوي بورتفولويو ومن هسا لسنتين ثلاثة أكيد أصير متمرس بيها

أنا راح أنزل 4 فصول (أول، ثاني، صيفي، أول): 12 ساعة، 13 ساعة، 5 ساعات، 5 ساعات عشان في مواد تفتح الثانية فبقدرش أنزلها أبكر

يعني مش كثير راح أنعجق بالدراسة وعندي وقت فراغ كبير

وبعد التخرج أن شاء الله بطلع بره

شو في مهارة بقدر أتعلمها من اللابتوب من هسا لشهر 3 عام 2028 بكون بوقتها قوي فيها وبقدر أكسب منها فلوس عمل حر أو أشي زي هيك؟

I like languages, esp. ones I already know. I have been specifically thinking about teaching English to speakers of my native language since the majority of people who speak my first language are monolingual.

I am worried about four things:

1. What if I look silly, sound silly, or screw up and become viral? Or if people turn my comment section into an insult pit? (I come from a Balkan-like region where everyone has their petty rivalries). I won't lie, I have some kind of phobia from that.
2. What if my teaching just sucks?
3. People might mock me for putting so much effort "for free", because let's face it, even if I do get monetized, my ad revenue would be peanuts and I do not plan to charge people for a course or funnel my viewers into some paid stuff. I just want to have fun. The chances I might change my mind and decide to be profit oriented are pretty slim.
4. I don't know how to edit good videos (the lessons would be "faceless" but I would still have to edit high-quality whiteboard-like explanations and learn to condense entire concepts into 3-10 minute bits. That's not easy.

Can someone allay my anxieties? I feel like I will keep coming across one obstacle after another.

Edit: I am thinking that if I really do invest my free leisure time into this I would not only spend my time productively (I would improve my own English) but I would also be doing something useful and helpful. Is this a valid reason to pursue content creation?

I looked up IQ tests and they cost like $1500 here, which costs a kidney tbh. I did the CORE+miscellaneous subtests on psychometrics site and scored 110 FSIQ. English isn't my first language.

I am going to graduate in a year from now. My GPA is 2.4 (based on the US's 4 score system) or %78.6 (my university's grading out of 100 system). I struggled with extreme mental health distress early on and flunked many courses and I only recently recovered and I still feel like my subpar performance was indicative of my low IQ (although the CORE FSIQ is above average, but yeah).

I am like super super insecure about whether my IQ turns out to be low. Should I kill that doubt with certainty and take a real IQ test?

Hello! I am a native Arabic speaker who is proficient in English. My English proficiency is C1, which is good enough for me.

I am currently learning German and I really dig languages, except I don't want to become a polyglot - I know what I want:

- Get conversational/proficient in German for everyday life. (taken care of, already doing it).

- Become so good at English that I can (and do) teach it. (How?)

My (American) English accent is like 70% correct. There are some 30% peculiarities in my spoken English that exposes me as someone who has learned English as a second language (not that I want to be mistaken for a native).

But, to maximize my effectiveness as a teacher-to-be, I took an American English accent pronunciation assessment. I will soon find out which exact sounds/aspects of my spoken English need work to make myself more native-like in preparation to teach the language.

As for grammar and other stuff, I don't know any! The last time I studied English formally was over 10 years ago and the English I speak now is the result of immersion (using Reddit and the Internet in general).

So, I think I might also have to literally study English grammar and aspects of the language explicitly so I can teach them well.

So, how to do it, and how long will it take for me to become teacher-ready? (Online teaching - I don't want to work in some company or school)
