Heheszki polskiego OLX i w ogóle rynku rzeczy używanych

  6. w ogóle "jestem emerytem z Wypizdowa Dolnego" - instant reject.

I am not sure if I need FIRE or a therapy

I want to highlight first, that I am from Poland, so pardon quirks and mistakes in my English, I refuse to use ai when talking to fellow humans.

I've been giving a lot of thought to the whole fire thing, why am I even trying. And I think it might just be lack of courage and/or deep rooted fear of being poor, and I wonder if it's common thing.

If you think about it, idea of FIRE doesn't make a lot of sense. In order to make enough money to retire in your 30s or 40s one is got to be pretty good at what they do, which is difficult to achieve if you're lazy. So typical FIRE fellow would be someone with energy and brain and skill and work ethics. Someone way ahead of average Joe. I would find it very unlikely such a person would want to do nothing for the rest of their lives. I've read people start hustles, monetizing hobbies, change careers. But you don't need FIRE money to do any of that strictly speaking. You need money for like 3-4 years at most. I think people need fire money to pull the trigger, people are afraid to go into unknown, and risk their future. But in reality, people who could potentially FIRE are pretty smart to find employment or means of making money, so this fear is sort of exaggerated and irrational.

I think am I also like that. One guy in interview I watched online said, that when his father died he felt like he lost a sense of safety, that he didn't know he had. I understand what he meant, but I never had this sense, quite the opposite. I always knew, that if I close my eyes and fall back, there will be no one behind me to catch me. I started working at 16 and never took anything from my family. Only thing they could give me is trauma. I paid out my house, have decent savings for at least 10 years of comfortable life for my family. And reason I am chasing fire is that I am probably still afraid regardless.

If fire'd, I'd probably still work or do other things, that would make me enough money. And rationally I can just do it already. But emotionally I can't, and I keep grinding, while life is passing by.

Blown away by Ibanez sr305e. Considering selling all other basses I have

My first 5 string bass. I play with a couple of bands, each in their tuning (standard, d, drop b), retuning messes up intonation, so I have several basses and having multiple basses is annoying tbh. Especially wasn't happy with drop b on my Greco bob-65, it's phenomenal thumper in standard, but with 50-115 strings B is flapping like hell, and I didn't want to widen the nut slots for higher caliber, so I thought I would just get one 5string to rule all the tunings.

I tried several Yamaha trbx, sr305, 505 and 605 in store.

Yamahas were heavier and I didn't like the looks, but it plays alright. 505 had nicer neck finish, better bridge, body finish - not a big fan, pickups - meh. 605 was actually very good, but more than double the price, and honestly I would rather buy second backup 305e, the upgrade is not worth it in my opinion.

It arrived fairly well set up, I only raised 5th to have less fret buzz. Good fretwork, nut well cut. Knobs are a little loose and cheap, that's the only concern. The bridge saddles are somehow better ones that ones I saw in store, those were more round and cheap looking, also uncomfortable when putting hand on them, the ones on this bass are flat top, still a little cheap, but much better.

Pickups on this one are great, 3 band EQ, tap switch - man, this bass can do anything. Not 1-1 replicate very specific tones, but if you want punch and grawl - you get it, if you want more soft and vintage - also possible.

Neck is stupidly good. Smaller string spacing is actually very comfy. With 5 strings I am rethinking positions in bass lines I am playing and I am shocked by how I can play pretty much everything in one position (V).

Weight - 3.8kg. not the lowest possible (I saw some particular exemplars being around 3.3kg), but still lighter than the lightest 4str jazz bass I own.

I will see how is it on rehearsals and gigs, but honestly - probably gonna sell japanese vintage basses I have (Bacchus handmade, Greco, Blade Levinson OPB-2), will maybe only keep FGN jazz bass just because it is somehow a fun thing to play

Can't attach photos for some reason, but I got satin black one (sr305eb-wk)

CMV: Soviet Union Venus program was more impressive, than NASA Perseverance/Curiosity

USSR space program never had more than a fraction of a budget of NASA, yet in 1970 they build a machine, which withstood several miles thik layer of sulfuric acid clouds, landed on a planed 500C hot with atmospheric pressure of 1km deep ocean and managed to transfer data back to Earth. As a first in history (i.e. data transmittion from another planet surface)

In 1982 they made photos of the surface of Venus. The only photos of Venus surface in existence.

NASAs Mars rovers are impressive, don't get me wrong, they are advanced, autonomous, and can serve for years.

But, they happened 30+ years after (just think of how advanced electronics is now and it wasn't in 1970-1980), the surface of Venus is extremely more hostile (temperature and pressure), and the surface of Mars is visible, because the atmosphere is thin and transparent, while Venus is covered by impenetrable clouds

UPD: honestly I didn't expect people to read this as "USSR rules, USA sucks!" post and leave defensive comments, which are dragging other things in, to prove america is number one, while this post is only about these 2 programs

How to find gigs?

I live in Europe, and English is my second language, so pardon any mistakes.

I am frequently reading posts and comments about how easy it is for a bassist to find gigs, people saying they play in the theater pit, in churches and so on.

Maybe I am doing something wrong, but it's not the case for me. I am a decent player, but bands I play with do not gig, quite frankly they are not even good imo, but on the other hand I don't know how to get into a good band, which play gigs.

I think it has to be networking, because in Facebook groups for bandmates search it's overwhelmingly beginner bands. I played on jam sessions a couple of times, it was fun, but no networking happened there.

I am pretty decent, I can groove, keep tight pocket and improvise a little (pentatonic, chords arpeggios, dorian scale). I also signed up for a jazz school, which will begin in autumn, maybe it will help.

I thought being good helps, because there will be word of mouth, and eventually someone will be looking for someone good and they will refer you. However, seems like nobody cares much if you are good bassist. I mean, if you're a good bassist - great, but if you can play root notes it's passable and most bands are ok with that, which means nobody is actively searching for a good bassist (unlike good drummers)

So yeah, how do you build networking, especially in mid 30s from nearly zero, with a focus on playing gigs

Ten, kto potrafi w wieku 30-40 lat wykręcić te 3+mln w Polsce, to prawdopodobnie osoba z inteligencją powyżej średniej i "money mindset".

3 msc będzie czytała książki i oglądała seriale i gdzieś tam pojedzie na wczasy. Potem pochodzi do silki i pobiegnie ten wymarzony półmaraton.

Am I a problem, or being in the band just sucks?

In my 15-20s I had a band, where I carried big weight (in the beginning most of songwriting and org, then mostly org and some chunk of songwriting) and it was overall a very nice experience. But I had to move to another country, so we recorded last songs and I moved.

Now I am in my 30s and don't think I have enough energy to carry the band, but I am a decent guitar and bass player, so I thought I would join a band, and so far it is a mildly disappointing experience. But again, maybe it's my personality, that is the problem, and either I change/adopt, or stop trying.

First band: I joined the band, something like pop punk, and it was led by 2 dudes essentially, one (guitarist) writes "chords", and the vocalist, which was writing lyrics and melody (essentially he was the author of the music). In the beginning the vibe was ok, but it got worse when I was asking (as lightly and politely as I could) to check tuning from time to time, because I clearly heard things out of tune. The worst offender (leader guitarist) gave me weird looks. Then in some songs, some chords clearly clashed with the melody (he liked pulling something like Abm13 while melody had no notes front there, lot of sus chords etc), and tried to come up with some, that would support melody better - he was very defensive and very unwilling to even listen to how it sounds. On one rehearsal I brought a couple of my songs (full songs, not only chord progressions which he was doing), The band was excited to take them and work on them, but he again was very bitter and left passive-agressive comments. I thought it would not end well long term and quit.

Second: dude told me he is gathering the indie band, that he is very creative and has a lot of ready songs to work on. I specifically asked does he means melody and lyrics, he said yes. Then there was couple of rehearsals of jamming and noodling (he very much enjoys noodling) and he expected vocalist, which can sing, but has no experience writing songs, to "be more brave and creative" - i.e. write melodies and lyrics. When I confronted the dude, he said oh, sorry, I probably misused some words, did I say I have songs? Oh no, I have just riffs, in the previous band everyone was doing only their part! Of course that was it for me, I referred the vocalist to a cover band I knew, he is doing great there

Third: cover band. They don't care, don't practice, and have weird excuses to not go to rehearsals. Like, "oh no, I already had plans to go out with my friends to the park". Not left yet, but probably soon.

Fourth: rapcore. The founder dude is very behind on lyrics, we even rehearsing once a week can assemble 2-3 ideas on the spot, in a month he wrote 1 text. I understand it takes time to write decent lyrics, it's fine, however he encourages us to meet more often (twice a week) for lounger sessions (3 hours), also come to his house to jam and try out ideas. Which I find a waste of time, since we play decent, can come up with arrangements quicker than he can come up with lyrics, and increasing time spent together won't yield much. Not even raising this, as ya know "killing vibes" again.

Not even mentioning 5 other bands, where in the first rehearsal it was clear we don't match. With these I thought there's hope.

I signed up to music school, to learn theory better, and learn basic piano. And honestly oftentimes when it's time for me to go to rehearsal, I am thinking that I would much rather stay home and record something in repear.

But maybe it's all me and instead I need therapy.

People can't handle long text because most of the time there's nothing of substance in there.

Not because they have short attention span, are illiterate, or whatever else you think.

Each time I see a huge wall of text, my first reaction is to skip it, and even if I decide to struggle through it, 100% turns out my first reaction was correct. Even if there was any idea or thought in the text (many times there isn't), it could be extracted into one sentence, which I would perhaps agree with and go on with my life. And when I don't agree, I do not always care enough to hear the argument.

Burying a short thought into 10 paragraphs of dense text so people would waste time reading and processing is a form of narcissism.

Is it ok to not really liking how bass sounds (as a bassist)?

I don't like the tone when playing solo. Nor J, nor B, nor humbacker. Neither dry, nor with effects.

But I like how the song sounds with a bass in the mix, especially if the pocket is tight. And I like the sensation when playing bass, like physically digging the strings, and how the bass body burps and vibrates.

But I almost exclusively play along with backing tracks.

Can anyone relate?

Active PA or cabinet or else for bass and guitar

I play both guitar and bass, and want a set up that would allow to play both.

My idea is to have my valeton gp-50 + IR loader into some active PA or neutral amp+cabinet to play at home.

I think I need something where speaker is full range and not 'coloring' the sound, like guitar and bass speakers do. I am asking in bass subreddit, since bass is more demanding, I can play guitar through small dynamics with no problem.

I wonder if need 10" minimum, or if smaller speakers will do the job as well?

Anyone had similar set up? Any recommendations?

Sam chodziłem do przeciętnej szkoły, i wśród kolegów z klasy mam i dr. z fizyki teoretycznej, i prawilnego typa za kratami.

I know I shouldn't have, but pulled a trigger

I know I have to many basses already, way more than I need, but always wanted to see if these Bacchus handmade woodline live up to the hype.

With delivery from Japan and all taxes and fees should be around 700$. For a handmade made in Japan instrument
