Best beaches to take toddler who LOVES the water?

We have a 2 year old boy who can’t get enough of the beach or water here in San Diego. We’ve been to Maui with him 3 times already so this will be his 4th trip but it will be his first trip since he’s basically a real human with real desires.

We stay at our Maui Hill timeshare in Kihei every year but are definitely down with drives all over the island. We’re looking for a beautiful beach that has calm water and plenty of fish so he can play in the water and we can take him out on a pool noodle with a mask so he can look at the fish.

My first instinct was Makena Landing but we want something with a beach we can set up on for the whole day.

Any other recommendations for things we can do with a 2 year old are absolutely welcome as well!

To use or not to use a car seat on the plane?

We will be flying to Hawaii from California next month with a 2 year old boy. We have mixed opinions on whether to put him in a car seat for the flight or not.

Pros:

  1. He will sleep really well in his car seat
  2. We can lock him in
  3. It’s obviously the safest way to fly with a toddler

Cons:

  1. If we pull him out, there’s no way he will get back in without a fit

As I’m typing this, I’m realizing we only have 1 con.. however, I’d still like to hear about personal opinions from everyone else here

Help with friends kid around ours?

We have a 2 year old son and our friends have a 2 year old son… their kid bites and pinches not only us but our son as well.

They are absolutely incredible friends who are there for us through everything in our lives and cutting them off is simply not an option.

We just need help navigating these situations where their toddler is being mean to ours. Our son is so gentle and sweet and wouldn’t hurt a fly so I just feel really bad for him.

They are great at discipline but nothing seems to work for them. Is there any advice I can give them without coming off as a rude about their kids behavior? I truly think it’s just that we got really lucky with a very sweet child and they hit a kind of wild card with a crazy kid. He’s more of the terrible two toddler you hear about in the news lol

$50k down to $17k in a matter of 3 months

So my wife and I screwed up and mismanaged money really bad. We were looking into filing bankruptcy but my income puts us well above the limit.

So we worked hard. She started grinding hard in real estate. I created an expenditure sheet on excel breaking down our debts, incomes, and expenses.

She landed 3 clients in the course of a month and closed on all three deals. It paid off everything but the $17k personal loan I have. Credit score went from 580 to 700 just by reducing our credit cards to a 0 dollar balance.

My question is pertaining to a car loan. We have a 2012 Toyota venza as our personal vehicle and it’s paid off but also has 330,000 miles. It’s fine for now but soon we’re gonna want to buy a new to us, relatively reasonable priced and reliable car. Is it a bad decision to get a loan while I still am paying off my personal loan? Or should we wait and save until the bitter end of life for our current car?

My question is about needing a new car.

PE Thrashers

These guys are much fatter and more chode like than last time I grew this exact variety from the same vendor. Could it be a different variety?

Store your fruits properly people

I give my dad a lot of dried fruit. He usually keeps it in a glass jar but I gave him some Ochras a month or two ago. He was complaining to me that he doesn’t like them as much as the PE I gave him because they made his stomach hurt. I asked to see them and he brought them out in the same gallon ziplock I used to give them to him and they were totally rehydrated and stunk to high heaven.

I made sure he threw them away immediately and checked his PE in the glass jar which were fine.

Luckily he never got super ill from them but we need to do our due diligence in informing our friends and family the correct way to store the fruits we give them because they usually don’t have a clue.

Okay, my previous post was not detailed enough so here it goes.

Here is a complete breakdown of all my bills. I live in southern California, so expenses are high.
Debts:
Capital one – $11,455.68 ($364/month)
Barclays - $4,582.68 ($135.16/month
Citi Bank - $4645.51 ($144.65/month)
Lending Club - $16,282.54 ($486.86/month
Synchrony - $10,986.09 ($307.62/month
Total monthly = $1,438.29

Bills (Average):
Internet - $65.99/month
Phone - $215.40/month
Gas - $47/month
Electric - $200/month
Water - $86.00/month
Rent – 3,300/month
Time Share - $250/month (This time share was gifted to my wife and I from my grandparents. It is completely paid off and what we pay are maintenance fees. It is a prime location in Maui for 2 weeks in a 3-bedroom condo. Every year, friends and family stay with us, and they pay us enough to completely cover the cost.)
Total monthly = $4,098.40
Income:
$7,688 (Guaranteed. 4 months out of the year are 5 paycheck months so that is an extra $1,922 for those months. Essentially what I do is take my weekly rent savings of $825 and put it towards debt.)
Total disposable income /week after bills = $537.83
** **
My wife is a stay-at-home mom with her real estate license. She just closed on a house and earned a commission of $7,900 which we will be using to pay down the capital one debt. Alongside other savings and money I can scrounge together, we can completely pay that card off in the next month. If she were to get a full-time job, she would not earn enough money to offset the cost of childcare, and it would literally cost us more money every month for her to work so that is not an option.
If we pay off everything entirely, my disposable income/week would rise to $897.40. If we only pay off capital one, my disposable income/week would only rise to $628.83

We have one paid off personal vehicle that is a 2012 Toyota with 330,000 miles on it. It is reliable but it’s going to give out at some point so that is a concern. I have a company truck with a gas card so that helps big time. We were paying $150/month for insurance, but I just got that dropped down to a lumpsum of**$320/6** months paid in full, so I don’t have insurance payment until 6 months from now.

In 3 months, all our phones will be paid off so I can then drop my phone plan to a cheaper plan without the bells and whistles (I can’t drop that now or I lose my credits for the devices and will cost more money)

I quit vaping recently so that is an extra $30/week in savings. We both quit drinking to save money and better our health recently. I don’t watch sports so no ridiculous tv subscriptions other than Disney+ & HBO/Netflix bundle. All of which are the lowest tier with ads which totals us $20/month through our Verizon package.

Do you guys see anywhere else that I could potentially save? Is defaulting on any of these loans and negotiating further down the line a solid option for me? The only problem I see with that is I don’t think I would be able to save up enough money to pay a 30-60% lump sum to the creditors in 6-12 months.

Please help. 46k in debt

Hello everybody! My wife and I have found ourselves in a pretty shitty situation where we are no $46k in unsecured debt to credit cards and personal loans.

Problem is that I don’t think I’ll ever qualify for hardship programs because I didn’t lose my job and I make over $130,000/year in California. I am the sole provider for our family and she is a stay at home mom.

We are heavily considering bankruptcy but I don’t think I’ll pass the means test for chapter 7. As of right now, we are current on every bit of debt but it’s about to go to shit really quickly and I want to get ahead of this before we default.

[gourmet] I want to start growing wood loving species and need some help on technique!!

Okay, I’ve grown quite a few active varieties and really want to jump into the gourmet world but have no clue where to start.

I know that I will be growing varieties that perform best in a SGFC with fruiting blocks.

I know that I need to use wood substrates and this is where I mainly need help.

  1. Can I make a masters mix or any sort of sawdust substrate without sterilization? I’m getting mixed answers all over the place. If I can, does anybody have a solid recipe?

  2. I just really have no idea where to start when it comes to gourmet varieties and really want to make my colonized blocks from scratch. I know this is a terrible post, but I would just really love some help in this area by others who are cultivating gourmet species

APE and Thrasher side by side spawn

I have a total of 8 jars, 4 thrashers and 4 APE. All inoculated with LC at the same time on 6/28. It’s insane how much faster the PE thrashers finished colonizing than the APE.

Alan Carr Easyway!!!

I mean, idk how to describe what I’m feeling to be honest. I’ve heard this book recommended countless times on here but I never cared enough.. let me start with my addiction and journey.

I was a very heavy vaper. Going through a 30,000 puff disposable vape every 6 days. Based on nicotine percentages and doing the math, I was poisoning myself with over 130mg of nicotine per day on average.

I decided to try nicotine patches in order to curb the hand to mouth habits as well as the desire for that throat hit that I found so enjoyable. It actually worked to my surprise.. I had to wear three 21mg patches at once for almost 3 weeks before I no longer needed the vape, but it worked. After that, I dumped the patches off one at a time for about a week each.

Then, finally, I read the book. It gave me not only the courage to cold turkey that last patch, but it gave me idea that I didn’t need courage to “give up” something that was only stealing the bounties of life from me. Today, I’m somewhere near 1 month smoke free but this is day 2 of nicotine free and I have absolutely zero desire to imprison myself again.

Thank you all who have recommended this book over and over again because I’m truly better off having read it and I know many others will be as well

Where did the idea behind starving your monotub of oxygen come from?

Why is this a thing? Why do we tell people to block any sort of air exchange from the tub or bag while it colonizes? If this was such a good practice, why don’t we do this while inoculation grain? Why have filter patches on bags and jars during colonization?

All stages of mycelial growth and fruiting benefit from fresh air exchange in nature so why would we not replicate that in our homes?

Bottom line, I feel like the idea of “when should I introduce fruiting conditions” needs to come to an end. It’s outdated practice and completely unnecessary to plug the tub and starve it of FAE at any point in the growth cycle.

Lahaina tourism

Hello! My family and I have been vacationing for a week in Maui for 3 years now. I’ve been coming here since I was a little kid and now it’s become my families tradition.

My wife and I spent our honeymoon on the island literally 1 month before the fires struck down Lahaina. We stayed in Kihei but drove to Lahaina every day and spent the majority of our time there for shore and boat dives. Particularly diving at Mala wharf became a daily occurrence.

Ever since the fires, we have stayed out of Lahaina to respect the residents and locals who lost everything. We would really love to go back this year especially to Mala wharf but do not want to disrespect anybody. Can someone please give me some insight on our concerns?

Is 3x 21mg patches too much?

Hey everybody, I have actually been going without a vape for 3 weeks now and the only reason I have been able to quit is because I’m wearing 3x 21mg patches at a time. I know that’s a shitload but I was going through a disposable Nic salt vape every week and my daily intake from that was almost double what these patches are giving me.

However, I just saw something online about fake patches and am beginning to wonder if that’s why I need 3 of them. These are the ones I’ve been buying and they definitely work because I don’t get withdrawals but are they actually giving me 63mg of nicotine when I combine all three?
