* Just received this in my email. So sad that he's battled cancer and now has other health concerns, wish him well.
As stated by me numerous times, our library system is truly a gem. Folks, please sign up if you have not. Get all your kids their own library card as well.
We need to do more for our libraries. They are being attacked and gutted all over the country. Please vote out Republicans and Democrats alike. Vote Progressives and Socialists. Ya know the people who can at least read. *
Hello Jersey City,
I’m writing to share some news with you. I am retiring as your Library Director, and my last day will be Friday, September 4, 2026.
This decision comes from the need to focus on my health and care for my family. Three years ago, I was diagnosed with prostate cancer. While I remain in remission, other health challenges have surfaced. I am blessed to still have both of my parents. My mom is 81, and my dad is 84. I am taking this opportunity to be closer to them and help them maintain as much independence as possible.
Since I became Library Director in September 2021, the Library has experienced tremendous growth. We have opened two additional branches, added another bookmobile, and expanded hours at our smaller branches. To support these expansions, our staff has grown from approximately 120 employees in 2021 to approximately 170 today. Circulation increased from 226,164 in 2021 to 745,676 in 2025. In 2025 alone, we hosted 11,242 programs attended by 163,667 people and welcomed 594,713 patrons to our branches. While this growth is noteworthy, none of it would have been possible without the dedicated staff members who show up each day to meet the needs of our community.
I want to thank the community leaders and elected officials who have continuously supported the work of the Library. Mayor James Solomon and his administration have been active supporters and partners. They have been especially helpful in working toward solutions to the many infrastructure issues caused by decades of deferred maintenance in City buildings.
Jersey City is facing many challenges. Community leaders and elected officials must work together to find solutions and not use every opportunity for personal or political gain. As a community, we also need to be mindful of the information we consume. From social media to outlets more interested in spinning narratives to increase views, we are often inundated with noise that lacks the full truth.
There is no denying that the Jersey City Free Public Library is at the heart of our community.
It has served this city for more than 130 years and will continue to do so for many years to
come.
And to the JCFPL staff: I love you, and I thank you for making Jersey City better each and every day.
Sincerely,
Terry B. Hill
Library Director

This is only for educational purposes. Surprised to see JC does not have many yet....
The ones in our area that made the list:
3. Milk Sugar Love, Jersey City, Asbury Park

I've yet to try Dahlia's Ice Cream and Kwality Ice Cream. I don't how Magic Fountain made the list. A corporation literally makes their product.
PS. For those who won't bother with the article. The top prize went to the Bent Spoon. Which I've had. It's great but never wowed me.
For some reason have been craving rice and beans. Since I cook the majority of my meals, does anyone wish to share a killer rice and beans recipe that they eat often? I did not grow up with in a household that ate rice and beans so wanting a flavorful recipe.
Also, what local owned place has veg friendly rice and beans?
THANKS!
PS. MODS can we get a recipe flare?
Join us at the Bayonne Public Library on Wednesday, July 15th at 6:30 pm in the Gallery for a very special show by Jenkinson’s Aquarium: “Penguin Pointers”!
During this 45-minute experience, you’ll be able to meet one of Jenkinson’s African penguins (from a safe 6 ft. distance) and see how the keepers work with them on a daily basis. Learn about penguin biology, geography, care, feeding, and conservation.
(And no, our picture background isn’t wrong - African penguins live along the sunny, rocky coasts of Southern Africa!)
This program is open to all ages. No advanced registration is required. Space will be available on a first come, first served basis.
It shows Dershowitz outside (or exiting) the Zionist of America event/gala at Cipriani in Manhattan, where he was confronted by protesters.
Dershowitz, who has denied wrongdoing, pulled out his phone and replied: "Let me get a picture of you so I can sue you."
The Epstein questions are not going away anytime soon! The public still demands full transparency, full names, and full accountability.

The other day had to get my brace wires and O-rings put back on after a cleaning. Had time to kill before appointment so stopped by Dulce De Leche. Got a smoothie for the first time, was really nice. I luv this place but wish they would enforce the no dog policy. There was a couple with a non-service animal. They were seated at a table that was maybe 6 feet away from the case that holds cakes, which is constantly being opened.
And it's not like this couple doesn't know the policy. There is a sign right at the door. Bonus points for Angel Azul at least enforcing their policy.
I also walked around a bit. I encountered a hot dog cart at Central/Bowers. It was named George/Elias hot dog cart. It was super clean. The owner seemed very friendly. Has anyone tried it? How is it? While am a vegetarian, my friend who luvs hot dogs.... would very much enjoy it.
PS. Rizzos Bakery is being renovated. There were 3 vans outside with workers. They were putting up Stucco in the interior. I really want to try this place.

A source separately provided WIRED with the registration list for Dialog's 2026 retreat, which names 222 people and records what the list describes as each registrant's membership status and attendee type, including “active member” and “guest.” The retreat is scheduled for August 12-16 at a venue near Dublin, Ireland.
