What they don't tell you

This is not intended to be negative, just informative so that you're aware in advance if you're considering buying a BYD.

- The included granny charger is not 10A, it's only 8A (and it's a cheap generic Chinese charger, so may change based on availability). In reality, people often claim to get as little as 1.1kW from their included charger. Allow a little longer that the usual 1 hour per 10km.

- When charging from a regular socket, be aware that it may be on the same circuit as other appliances. Breakers are typically 16A, and if you start cooking dinner (using the kettle, microwave, air fryer, etc) whole charging, that could be enough to trip the breaker, so plan ahead.

- The digital key which they advertise heavily is not available to everyone outside of China. It's part of a digital wallet, and so far only supports Apple wallet and Samsung wallet internationally, so most Android users are unable to use their phone as a key.

- Charging in the rain is supposedly possible, but the 'brick' isn't exactly waterproof. I'd still recommend placing it on a brick with a plastic tub over that and the plug to your (tradesman quality) extension lead. And you shouldn't charge in a thunderstorm, so if there's one forecast, plan ahead.

- Driving range is estimated based on only the last 50km (and the current state of charge). If you drive a lot in slower stop/start traffic, it will give a much higher range estimate that will drop rapidly over you get on the freeway/highway.

Checklist for first time owners?

I've seen a number of things mentioned, such as what to check on delivery day, etc, but I'm yet to see a full run down of everything from what / how to turn off annoying stuff and configure the main dash display, etc to getting a suitable extension lead for charging and confirming service dates, etc.

Does it exist already? If not, would this be a valuable thing to create?

Bands with some Symphonic Metal songs that don't get recommended very often

We all like Symphonic Metal, but I know we usually enjoy other stuff too. And we're always looking for recommendations of more stuff we'll like - I often find many of the recs aren't quite what I'm looking for, but then later hear some different songs by those bands and love them.

So I'm here to offer some suggestions that aren't generally Symphonic Metal bands but they have a few songs which are squarely in Symphonic metal territory - in particular, ones which don't get recommended very often. Please share some more!

X-Japan
Metallica (S&M specifically)
Savatage
Two Steps from Hell
Smashing Pumpkins
Sarah Brightman

Fadcam doesn't stream - alternatives or solutions

After a bit of research I came across Fadcam as a way to turn my old phone into a security camera and it seemed to tick all the boxes - local recording, live streaming and a bunch of other useful features like file splitting. Except that the streaming part doesn't work. Looking at the github page, it hasn't been updated in 7 months although I can see recent commits.

My phone isn't crazy old - it's a Realme X2 with decent specs that is still very responsive. I can get to the web interface on my computer and can control the start/stop recording, turn on the torch, etc, but the main stream button greys out as soon as the page loads/refreshes. I've done everything I can think if, including setting the flag in my browser for allowing unsecure as secure, disabled adblocker, set page permissions, etc and this core feature just doesn't work, even though literally everything seems to be working flawlessly.

Is this a known issue? Is it going to get updated at some point to resolve this issue? Given that will probably not happen for a while, what alternatives are there that actually work?

Stray Gods is compared to Iron Maiden - which songs are the most Power Metal?

I just discovered this band, and I like it but everything so far has been very traditional heavy metal styled, but since Iron Maiden has some more Power Metal style songs, do these guys have any?

How to get the algorithm to show your model?

I only have a few of my models uploaded so far, and I've been uploading to both Makerworld and Printables. Basically no downloads on Makerworld vs downloads on all of them on Printables.

Browsing the 'main' page with the algorithmic feed shows the same stuff all the time, and I'm wondering what the trick is that those models/designers use. I'm not deluded enough to think my designs are groundbreaking stuff that everyone needs, but it would be nice to at least give more people a chance to see them.

Weird numbering issue

I just added Seaquest DSV which has an unusual quirk - according to TVDB, episode 1 is listed as 1x01 (part 1) and 1x01 (part 2), followed by ep 1x02, for a total of 23 episodes, but 24 separate files. I've never seen this before in any other show, and Jellyfin seems to be struggling with it too.

TMDB uses the production/DVD order which contains wildly different episodes, and has the pilot episode listed 1x01 and 1x02 with the next ep being 1x03. Because the episodes are so different, I'm planning to stick with the TVDB version - but I can't figure out how I can make Jellyfin behave properly with it?

Currently it's displaying (part 1) twice with identical image and everything, including both being listed as 1. (ie the first episode), then (part 2) is listed as 2. Any ideas on how to either get it to display 1. (part 1) and then 1. (part 2) or renumber them or something else?

Sketch on curves - not intuitive enough

I'm not an expert by any means, but trying to work with curves is more painful than it should be. And yes I've got the curves workbench installed - but that's the first big issue... It's not even there by default.

I understand that basic curves like a cylinder or cone are supposed to be simpler, but today I was working with a revolve just made from arcs - and the number of steps to get the sketch to attach to it was excessive. Rinse and repeat a few times for multiple sketches and you'll soon lose the will to live.

Since the steps required (use the sketch to curve tool, set the attachment and mapmode) all relate to the same curve surface, why can't these all be automated and combined into the sketch to curve button?

A prequel series would be awesome

I've seen a few people mention they'd like to see the Earth/Minbari war - but I don't think that would be very interesting, since it seems to be fairly quick, and we already know what happened in the most interesting parts.

I think there are a lot of other interesting stories though - the Centauri/Narn conflict from 100 years ago. When Earth first encountered alien races for the first time. The previous shadow war with Valen. The great machine, possibly introducing Zathras. Heck, even a simple storyline like the introduction of the Psi Corps.

Obviously, anything involving the original cast is probably a bad idea with all the re-casting needed, and a new story is better than trying to tie into the existing one IMHO. What prequel story do you think still needs to be told?

Glow filament that stays bright the longest

Yes, I know it's abrasive. Yes, I know it depends how many walls and infill percentage. Yes, I know it depends how it's charged. Yes, I know green is the best.

Now we've got that out of the way, I want to print something that's easily visible during the day, and it's still basically an indicator at night. I don't care how bright it is initially, I only care about how bright it is 4+ hours later.

Sadly, there's only ever marketing hype with 'up to' figures from manufacturers, if it even has that. I've heard claims that PETG is better than PLA, but 95% of glow filament is PLA.

I'd love to hear from you if you've used any glow filaments - if you've made it 5 walls thick with 40% infill and still had it fade within an hour, or you were surprised at how well it worked, please share what brand and your print settings. Especially if you've used multiple different filaments and can give a comparison.

I designed a new type of storage for your pocket stuff - the Multi Tray

https://www.printables.com/model/1740466-multi-tray

After I couldn't find anything suitable to hold my wallet and keys, along with smaller pocket items like my earbuds, I finally decided to make my own. I can now empty my pockets into a single place that keeps each item separate and prevents them getting scratched up.

I put a lot of effort into ensuring the design looks good, is extremely functional, and most importantly, that it's easy to print. I'd love to know if this is useful for you, or if it's not, why not?

Writers just completely forgot about all of voyagers 'jumps'

There were the odd occasions where something didn't add up based on how far Voyager had travelled, but by about season 6 it was every other episode!

There are too many examples to list them all, but the one where Barclay manages to calculate where they are without knowing they're halfway home already was probably the worst. There's the one with the duplicate crew just heading back to that planet where they were formed, despite it being some 20,000 light years away, the one with Kes being really old and heading back to Ocampa, races they met early on reappearing, people knowing about Talaxians, etc.

It became so in-your-face, it's impossible to ignore - so how did the writers screw that up so badly?

Design help - rotating rails

I'll try to give as much detail about my design as I can, but if I miss something important, please just ask. I'll be 3D printing this, so simpler is usually better.

The complete design intention is a storage box that is 'closed' (not sealed, but it prevents too much smelly/dirty air getting in and being absorbed by the fabric items inside) and has a FIFO system, with clean items going in the top via a hinged lid and the next item being removed at the bottom (gravity fed is definitely the simplest method) - this way they get cycled and used evenly. The items it will hold are pretty lightweight fabric, so there's some friction but it's not excessive. Items like light gloves or face masks that are typically much longer in one dimension than the others.

At the bottom of this box will be a drawer I can pull out - about halfway will probably be enough to remove a single item. My idea is to have a pair of rails on the sides of the box that are down (vertical) when the drawer is closed, but the act of pulling the drawer causes the rails to flip up to a horizontal position, preventing the next item from falling down. Then inserting the drawer to the back allows the rails drop back down and the next item will fall into the drawer. I'm thinking if the box is 100mm wide, rails of 20mm might be enough to create a 'floor'.

I need some sort of mechanism to translate the linear motion of the drawer into rotational motion for the rails. I just can't picture how that would look to design it!
