First time growing it.
I am pleased 😌
4th month in new allotment and we have already harvested potatoes, shallots and onions.
Today I harvested our first Zephyr courgette. Joy!
My watermelons are not thriving, and my sweetcorn is not looking promising for harvest ( hand for scale).
My rescued sprouts ( rescued and nurtured after a savage cabbage white attack) were bouncing back but today I discovered white fly.
Gardening is full of ups and downs - I’m happy with today’s courgette so I’ll take the win.
Hope everyone is enjoying their allotments 💕
We found him on a patch of bare earth in our garden - hubby did some clearing of old cuttings and not sure if he was in there.
Should we move him to somewhere safe? ( thinking birds might find him tasty) or leave him be.
We looked at food plants and if it is a hawk moth caterpillar fuchsia or lady’s bedstraw might be an option.
We also have a salix willow which I also think is a good food plant.
Any advice would be appreciated 🙂 thank you
Hi everyone,
I grew some amaranth as an experiment. Aside from it looking lovely - does anyone have any ideas of what to do with it?
I’ve heard you can eat the leaves steamed like spinach or make flour?
Just curious if you’ve grown it and how you’ve used it.
Thanks 😊
Did some cooking today. I love listening to Type O Negative ( all the time) but especially when I cook.
Got me wondering what their favourite foods are - and what food Peter liked. Did he enjoy Polish food?
Anyway random thoughts about the guys and food.
What would you cook them if they came over for dinner?
( also saw Bonnie cooking an amazing looking Eggplant Parmesan on Instagram - I might try that next.)
Hi everyone
Thank you to all who gave me advice about when to harvest my shallots and onions.
Today was shallot day! I am delighted with the harvest.
The leaves had gone brown and crispy so I knew it was time. However some of them were in clusters of 3-5 shallots and were a little tricky to pull apart (photo 1) is this normal or did I pull them too soon? Some are the size of a garlic clove.
Do I let them dry out in the house for a few days before using them?
Thanks again 💕
Hi everyone,
Just looking for some advice. Today I finally got to see a gynaecologist about my fibroids.
I am 55 years old. Still getting regular periods but now because of fibroids they are very heavy.
He suggested taking the above drug to see if it will lessen the bleeding until I start menopause. Meanwhile he’s also booked me in for a hysteroscopy - I opted to be awake for this - would you recommend that or is going under better?
Depending on the biopsy results and how well the meds work - he said we could look at removing the fibroids only / or removing fibroids and the womb / or a full on hysterectomy.
What are your thoughts?
Thank you for any support and advice 💕
Hi I hope you can give me some advice.
Middle finger nail of right hand.
Nail is extremely hard. It is a bit tender and almost seems raised on one side.
Slight discolouration as well. I don’t recall injuring it.
Thank you.
Allotment people are the best!!
Went to water this evening and was given a bunch of beautiful beetroot.
Last week I was given some sweetcorn to plant and not pictured are the 2 cabbages I was also given to plant.
I love allotment folk 💕💕💕
Hi everyone I’ve grown onions and shallots for the first time.
I’m delighted with how well they’ve grown but I don’t know when I should harvest them and if there’s a way to do it.
There’s someone at my allotment who has all their onions laying out on a tarp - they’ve been there over a week but they aren’t there as I’d ask them why they’ve done that.
Do I need to lay them out? How do I know when they’re ready?
Thank you for any help. 🙂
Hi everyone I am hoping someone can shed light on this for me.
I have a pituitary Adenoma - I’ve been suffering with all kinds of symptoms- some may be connected but I have a lot of other stuff going on.
I took cabergoline for 3 months to see if it was a prolactinoma or stalk syndrome- I have no idea which it is.
I was told to stop taking the cabergoline - I finished in May and this is my most recent prolactin result- it’s even more.
I am drifting around the NHS - I have no idea what these means and haven’t found clear information on the internet.
Is someone able to explain in layman’s terms what this high level means? I am going to see a private GP but I’m waiting for an available appointment.
If it helps…
I had non invasive breast cancer 2 years ago ( I am all clear now)
I have a large fibroid
Apparently there is a small nodule near my left adrenal gland and slightly swollen lymph glands near the right one ( they have been cleared - just keeping an eye on them)
My liver is under investigation ( fatty liver? - should get results soon)
Hiatus hernia
Trans synovial giant cell tumour in right knee ( not cancerous)
Symptoms are extreme fatigue, dizzyness, weight gain, tired eyes( I did have them checked cause of the adenoma and they were fine) swelling / oedema especially lower legs and feet/ a very very itchy scalp
Has anyone else had an adenoma - I feel like I’m alone in this and am generally feeling quite depressed.
Thank you for any light you can shed in this for me. 💕
Hi everyone, so I’ve been diagnosed with a largish fibroid and so far there’s been no talk of removing it.
The incontinence is unreal - when I have to pee I really have to get to a loo asap. I can drink a small glass of water and the urge to go is still incredibly strong.
I try not to drink anything at least an hour before bed because I keep waking up in the middle of the night with such incredible pressure on my bladder that I’m worried I won’t make it to the loo.
Last night because of the heat I had some water, I was aware in my sleep I needed to go but I didn’t wake up in time.
As a former bed wetter this sucks. I hope it was a one off.
I’ve never been pregnant so I wonder if the sensation of pressure on the bladder is the same.
I hate this ☹️ sorry for rant
The display isn’t even working properly - it’s much warmer in the fridge.
Did a shop 2 days ago - milk gone off, rotting chicken thighs are all I can smell and my fancy ice cream is melting,
I will eat that for breakfast so the day isn’t completely ruined.
Bah!
Garlic and onion advice
Hi everyone, I’d like some advice on garlic and onions and shallots which I am growing for the first time.
The first picture is the garlic which I grew from shop bought garlic- I got the cloves to sprout and then I put them in the soil. The green shoots had all died down and were brown and completely withered which I thought meant the garlic was done however they do look very small although they did each come from one small clove. Do you think they’re okay to eat?
I’m also growing onions and shallots the onions are the next two pictures and the shallots are the fourth picture. I have no idea when to harvest these. Do I need to wait for the green shoots to die back?
Thanks for any help

Yesterday I bought a sausage roll at the cafe at work. I didn’t get a chance to eat it so put it in the fridge as soon as I got home.
Today, I was looking forward to having it with a cup of tea. I opened the bag and there was this big poo fly in the bag.
Presumably it had been in the bag doing its ‘thing’ since I bought it. It was groggy after being in the fridge and I didn’t see any eggs or things in the sausage roll but I just can’t…
No treat for me today ☹️
Had a really shit day so decided it was time to finally buy a Type O T-shirt.
I’ve had a few on my wish list but this one really spoke to me.
I hate buying clothes anyway and always get sizes wrong - I opted for PeterSteeleSize and am delighted with the results.
This is the first t-shirt of many…
Hi everyone I saw this today in a pedestrian subway in Hammersmith.
There was no information about it - although there was other public art around it with info.
It really appealed to me. Just wondering if anyone knows anything about it?
Thanks and by the way I lived in London ( mainly Camden ) for 15 years (now I live in Kent) but I hadn’t ever walked around or explored Hammersmith- what a beautiful and fascinating place.
Hi everyone, I have never been mudlarking but I love seeing what you all find!
I’d like to give it a try but I don’t want to get in trouble. For example mudlarking on the Thames - do you need permission?
Also any tips for someone who has never done it before?
Thank you 💕
