Ghost shrimp babies survived after hatching in one of my freshwater tanks. Tough little guys!

For context, ghost shrimplets will typically die within a few days of hatching in freshwater if not transferred to brackish.

Update from my previous ID request: My state’s department of wildlife is having me bring in the suspected NZMS specimens for DNA testing. Whee!

They said it’ll take anywhere from 2-4 weeks from today to get results back.

Urgent help needed: New male settling into his quarantine tank seems to be breathing very hard. More details in comments.

Time in QT & misc details: 20 hours; temperature and drip acclimated prior to entry. Lighting kept off except for checkups when the lowest setting is used.

Parameters: (liquid tests)
pH 7.8
Ammomia 0 ppm
Nitrites 0 ppm
Nitrates 10 ppm
The pH is higher due to seiryu stone in the tank, but I did not want to remove it and cause him even more stress from a swing.

Temp: 78 F (25.6 C)

Tank details: Moderately planted 6g (22.7L, but he will be going to his own 9g [34L] Flex after QT). Surface is planted moderately with salvinia minima to provide cover, with large gaps for air. Aerated sponge filter bubbling for surface agitation. No flow to prevent fatigue. Over a dozen places to rest in various parts of the tank (anubias leaves and a partially submerged Indian almond leaf).

Tankmates: Snails only; A few mini ramshorns and MTS.

His energy levels are great, swimming regularly but never frantically. I know that the first few days are very stressful for them and it could just be that, I just want to be sure that I’m doing everything right.

I have a new female in a tank beside his (he can’t see her, don’t worry) and her tank is absolutely identical to his in details, parameters, etc. It is just a clone of his tank. She is having no issues with her breathing.

Can you see anything about him/on him that is cause for concern? Thank you so much in advance.

Please tell me this isn’t NZMS crawling out of this massive bundle of Java moss I bought. MTS next to them for comparison.

Smooth shell, sharp apex, upward angle… It’s got a lot of the features. I’ve heard there is a very similar, relatively common snail to the NZMS (out of Florida, I believe?) and I’m praying it’s that, but I feel like I’m not that lucky.

My lovebirds.

The female is a rescue and does not see very well. The male stays by her side and guides her to food, shoos other fish away if they’re crowding her, and gives her regular whisker taps like he’s showing her he’s still there.

They just. Keep. Making. MORE.

I don’t have a breeding setup for my medaka. They are in a community tank and I assumed all of the eggs and fry would be eaten, like with any of my other fish. I’ve also heard that indoor aquariums in general are less conducive to medaka breeding.

I was so wrong.

I posted here a week or two ago about a couple of fry I found. I began by putting them in a peaceful nano tank, then that became overrun. I added several fry boxes to one of my 55g tanks, then that became overrun. I just converted a spare 40g quarantine tank into a medaka fry tank and am in the process of moving everyone there. I am going to have to make a plan for trading them now because dear God there are always more when I check.

While this wasn’t my plan, I adore these fish.

Did I successfully (and accidentally) hatch some green kubotai rasbora fry?

Chasing/sparring behavior in 5 day old fry?

Caught these two circling one another and smacking into each other. They’re only 5 days old and are my first medaka fry, so this is new for me. Do I need to separate them?
Thanks in advance. This is easily one of the most helpful and informative fishkeeping subs I’ve been on.

Better luck next time, buddy. Any words of advice for him?

Looks like he went straight for the bar after.

ID request: Imported stone sold at aquatics store

Pictures are under a 72W light. It appears almost entirely black in weaker lighting. There are silvery inclusions throughout and, prior to rinsing it, touching it would coat your hands in a very thick layer of black, sooty dust.

I recognize that it is difficult to buy a house outside of an HOA, but what the FUCK is with these prices?

It’s not a terrible neighborhood but I cannot fathom what the community is providing that is worth half a grand a month.
