We designed an engine bay panel cover for the MK5 platform (Golf/Jetta/GTI/R32) - here's how it turned out

Hey everyone,

We've been working on an engine bay panel cover for the MK5 platform (Golf, Jetta, GTI, R32 - 2005–2010) and wanted to share it here since this community knows these cars better than anyone.

The idea came from how many MK5 owners spend hours detailing the engine bay, only to have that gap between the components look unfinished. This panel bolts on with an included mounting bracket - no drilling, no modding the harness or anything, just a clean install in a few minutes.

Specs:

  • ABS plastic, 3 mm thick - sturdy but light, holds up to engine bay heat
  • Comes with the mounting bracket included
  • Fits Golf MK5, Jetta MK5, GTI MK5, and R32

We built this because we couldn't find anything like it readily available - most of what's out there is hard to source.

New batch in stock - T3/Vanagon body parts, made from originals

Hey everyone - full disclosure upfront: I run a small shop that makes T3/Vanagon body parts, so this is a vendor post, not a random find. Mods, happy to follow whatever self-promo rules apply here, just let me know if this needs a different format.

We just finished a new production batch and wanted to share it with people who'd actually appreciate it. Everything is built in-house from original T3 parts - some pieces are straight reproductions, others we modified slightly to clean up fitment or add a bit of style without straying from the classic look.

What's in this batch:

  • Front grille panel w/ yellow fog lights 4mm ABS, left + right cases, smooth and paint-ready. Comes with a pair of H3 55W fog lamps on a standard 12V circuit. No install manual included - most owners hand it to their regular shop for a clean fit. Worth checking your local lighting regs before road use. Only 2 left in this batch.
  • Front grille panel w/ standard (non-yellow) fog lights Same 4mm ABS panel and left/right case setup, just clear lens fog lights instead of yellow.
  • Fender kit (6 pieces) 3mm ABS wheel arches, original-style fitment for T25/T3. Some trimming/prep is normal before install - usually done with adhesive tape + aluminum rivets, professional install recommended. Only 2 left in this batch.
  • Sliding door trim 4mm ABS threshold/sill trim for T3 models with a raised floor (Multivan and other step-floor variants). Direct replacement for cracked or missing original trim - protects the threshold from shoe-sole wear. Black finish, brand new, not refurbished. Only 3 pcs left.
  • Rear light blend panels ABS panels that clean up the rear light area on a T25/T3. Mounts with tape and bolts. Last one left in this batch.

Limited stock across the board, made in small runs rather than mass-produced.

Happy to answer fitment, install, or material questions in the comments - and if you've got a build thread, would genuinely love to see how these end up looking on your van.

Scanned and molded my own rear fender flares for the MK1 out of ABS - then tried wrapping them in carbon and learned a few lessons

So instead of buying flares I decided to make my own. I 3D scanned the rear arch profile, cleaned up the model, and molded the flares out of ABS plastic. Came out as a left/right set that follows the arch nicely - pretty happy with the base parts themselves.

Where it got messy was the finish. I wanted something different so I tried wrapping the ABS in carbon fiber, and it was way harder than I expected. Getting the carbon to lay flat around the curve of the arch fought me the whole way. You can see a couple of the flaws in the pics where it didn't sit perfectly, especially around the tighter bends.

The other rookie move: I'd just laid fresh clear coat and got impatient, so I wrapped them in stretch film to move them around. The lacquer was still green/uncured and the film left marks right in the finish. Annoying, but it's only surface level - should buff and polish right out once it's fully cured.

Always hated the exposed space in the MK7 bay - 3D scanned it and modeled a cover that drops right in

Been bugged for ages by that exposed space on the driver's side of the MK7 bay - you know the one, with the wiring and brackets just hanging out.

Spent a few months designing one in CAD, went through three prototypes, and finally got it where I wanted it. 4mm ABS, drops right in with the included bracket, no drilling or trimming.

Did a first batch of 15 and managed to get fitted on a few different MK7s - Golf, GTI, and a Jetta. Pics in the gallery.

Heads up - won't fit cars with the washer fluid reservoir on the passenger side, so check yours before getting excited.

Curious what the sub thinks. Happy to answer questions.

We designed an engine bay panel cover for the VW MK4 in CAD - and had to make two versions because of the washer tank

Been working on an engine bay panel cover for the MK4 platform - Golf, Jetta, Bora, R32, all of them. Designed it in CAD, made it from 4mm ABS plastic, bolt-on with a bracket included.

Sounds simple, until we realized the MK4 came with two different washer fluid tank sizes depending on the market:

- 3L tank — North American spec (US/Canada)

- 5.5L tank — European spec

The tanks sit in different positions and take up different space, so one panel design doesn't fit both. We ended up modeling two separate versions to make sure the fitment is clean on each.

Works across all MK4 engines - 1.6, 1.8T, TDI, VR6, R32. No cutting, no modifications, just bolts in.

If you're not sure which tank you have — check the size printed on the reservoir itself, or just look at how much space it takes up in the bay. Happy to help figure it out if you drop your market/year in the comments 👇

Our T3 Multivan's (Vanagon) aluminum door sill trim was gone - so we made a plastic replica from scratch

https://preview.redd.it/nezvmzmq350h1.jpg?width=1280&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=cbc824717961658913af349cef187428f4d180e8

The original VW T3 Multivan came with an aluminum sliding door threshold trim - but finding a decent replacement is nearly impossible at this point. Most are cracked, worn out, or just missing entirely.

So we reverse-engineered it and made our own version in CAD. The replica is made from 4mm ABS plastic - it follows the exact shape of the original aluminum piece and fits T3 models with a raised floor (the ones with a step). Snaps right into place, no modifications needed.

Obviously it's not metal, but ABS handles daily wear surprisingly well - resistant to moisture, temperature changes, and the constant friction from shoe soles. And it makes the doorway look clean and finished again.

Happy to answer questions.

Been bothered by the engine bay gap on MK5s for a while. Couldn't find anything that fit properly, so me and the guys decided to just model it ourselves.

Spent some time in CAD getting the geometry right, especially the bracket - wanted it to be a true bolt-on with zero modifications to the car.

Ended up with a 4mm ABS panel that sits clean and covers exactly what it needs to cover. Fits Golf MK5, Jetta MK5, GTI MK5, and R32 (2005–2010).

We're based in Florida and just finished the first production run.

Been annoyed by the exposed wiring and bare plastic on the passenger side of my Golf's engine bay for way too long. Couldn't find anything that fit properly, so I modeled one myself in CAD and had it made from 4mm ABS plastic.

Snap fit, zero modifications, takes about 5 minutes to install. The difference is honestly bigger than I expected - it finally looks intentional under the hood.

Ended up making a small batch for anyone else with the same problem. Fits Golf MK7, GTI, and Jetta 2013–2021. Ships from Florida.
