If you moved here from Washington, what moving service did you use?

Seeking guidance as it’s our first interstate move. Family of 3 moving from Bellevue, WA to Hillsboro, OR (185 miles). We will pack our stuff but need help loading, driving, unloading in new home. The simplest way is probably picking a moving service but the options are overwhelming and we didn’t have a good experience with a moving company last time we used one for a local move. We also don’t want to spend a lot. Hoping for some recommendations from people who made the move. Thank you!

Washington to Oregon - PODS or Packrat?

Daunted by the choices available. It‘s a 184-mile trip, we are a family of 3 moving to a 3br home, we want to avoid using moving companies.

We are leaning towards PODS, but don’t know how to approach the whole thing. Where do we find people we can hire to help load and unload our stuff? Do we have to research if we need to get permits to have a Pod parked? Is Packrat a better option?

Please chime in with your experiences. Everything helps. Thank you!

Home I am moving into is being foreclosed by HOA

Location: Oregon

TLDR: Gave property manager a hold deposit for a house rental (no lease signed), later found out the house is being foreclosed on by the HOA because of improper lawn maintenance, owner claims lawyers are negotiating and it will be resolved soon, how to move forward?

We spent a week in Oregon touring potential houses to rent (we live in a different state). We went with a house handled by a property management company that has good reviews and put down a non-refundable deposit to hold/reserve the property.

A day later I looked up the actual owners of the house and after digging deeper online, I discovered that the listed owner has two active lawsuits (breach of contract since 2023; foreclosure since 2025) filed by their HOA.

I communicated this to the property manager and she said she is not aware of the lawsuit. When she brought it up to the owner, the owner explained that the HOA put a lien on the home regarding prior lawn maintenance that was not being completed properly and the attorneys are currently negotiating the cost of the lawn maintenance and the HOA penalties, and it should be resolved soon. I’ve never lived in a home with a HOA but if it really is about lawn maintenance, why let it escalate to a lien foreclosure?

Had I known about this I would not have put down a deposit. Do I have a right to ask for it back?

I am seeking insights from this community to help me decide what next steps to take.

Thank you.

EDIT: Thank you for the very helpful responses!

Property Managers, how would you handle this?

Tenant pays hold deposit for a house they want to move into in the next few weeks. They research the owner of the house they plan to rent and after digging deeper they discover owner is in an active lawsuit (foreclosure) filed by the HOA. Tenant feels blindsided and wants their non-refundable deposit back.

[OR] Found out owner of the house I am about to rent is being sued by HOA

Hello. We got approved to rent a nice house that is managed by a property management company so we put down a deposit to hold until we sign a lease and move in. After driving back home I did deeper online research on the property and found that the listed owners of the house have an active lawsuit (foreclosure) filed by the HOA.

I find this alarming. Should the property manager have disclosed this? I’m not sure what the next steps are. Please advise. Thank you.

[OR] Found out the owner of house I am about to rent is being sued by HOA

Hello. My family and I spent a few days in OR to tour properties to rent since we intend to move there in the next several weeks. We got approved to rent a nice house that is managed by a property management company so we put down a deposit to hold until we sign a lease and move in. After driving back home I did deeper online research on the property and found that the listed owners of the house have an active lawsuit (foreclosure) filed by the HOA.

Starting over

10 years ago I made a bold and spontaneous move that I was hoping would lead to a thriving career pero ang nangyari I found love and started a family. I’m happy naman but I’m getting close to 40 and yung career ko stagnant and not where I want it to be. I want to start from scratch pero clueless ako how to begin. Do I go back to school? Or launch something on my own? Do you have a similar path? Advice naman diyan or kahit inspirational stories man lang. Salamat.

Loneliness despite having a good life

I’m late 30s married to a thoughtful, hardworking husband and we are parents to a delightful son. My life is good. Not perfect, but good. Pero napakaraming bagay that are bringing me down. Ewan. Nalulungkot ako na hindi namin mabibigyan ng kapatid yung anak ko, nakakatakot isipin na someday magiging mag-isa siya sa mundo. My mom died when I was a teenager, and nung namatay siya dun namin na-diskubre that my dad has been cheating on her the whole time and may mga anak pala sa labas. I have complicated feelings about him and his betrayal. Bati naman kami but it still hurt when he didn’t greet me during Mother’s Day. Parang I shouldn’t care dapat but deep down I guess I do. Sa side naman ng husband ko, yung biyenan ko may pagka-petty and nanadyang hindi tawagan husband and anak ko during their birthdays, kahit big deal na big deal sa kanya ang birthdays and imposibleng ”nakalimutan.” Hay buhay. I just want peace of mind. Thanks for reading.
