As a Red vs. Blue fan, hearing the haters complain about the swearing in the Hellaverse is extremely funny to me.

As a Red vs. Blue fan, hearing the haters complain about the swearing in the Hellaverse is extremely funny to me.

Bear in mind, this video is from 2010. It’s outdated. Point is, RvB episodes are around 8 minutes average length. A lot of them (especially in the early seasons) have WAY more swearing per minute than Hazbin Hotel or Helluva Boss do.

Maybe the haters would back off if characters said “cock bite” instead of “motherfucker”. Maybe they‘d prefer it if Husk got hit in the balls seven times in a single fight scene (seriously, that happens in RvB. Poor Grif 😢).

Sorry for the poor quality photo. It would cost too much to scan to a digital image.

Hating Hazbin is a meme: prove me wrong

Snark on the internet is a defense mechanism more than anything else. The internet has reduced all opinions on media quality to either “peak” or “trash”. If something isn’t absolutely perfect, it’s “trash“, and you’re not allowed to like “trash”.

While I don’t doubt that there are weirdly parasocial haters and people who have legitimate criticisms, I‘m willing to bet that the vast majority of “haters” don’t actually care about the Hellaverse either way. Some of them may even LIKE it. But they have to snark and dig at it because it’s a meme. “It’s just a bunch of stupid jokes; it doesn’t harm anyone”. But those stupid jokes build up. They turn fans into performative haters because the internet is actively hostile to anyone who likes the show wholeheartedly.

The internet takes joy and destroys it. If you dislike something the internet says is “peak”, you won‘t face NEARLY as much harassment as you will if you like something that’s “trash”.

What would Vox think of Sharknado?

I personally think he’d have the opposite opinion of Jaws. If he loves Jaws as a movie but hates the impact it had on sharks, then he’d hate Sharknado as a movie but would get some odd enjoyment out of seeing the stupid humans get eaten. I don’t think he’d understand the concept of “so bad, it’s good”. I think his cinephile senses would be offended by the very idea.

Yes, Brandon SHOULD be held accountable for what he did. He should directly address it and apologize for it (as he arguably did not in his 2019 podcast), and what he did should not be dismissed solely because it was x years ago.

However, the Twitter users that leaked this old video should ALSO be held accountable. They did not expose this because they actually care about holding Brandon accountable. They did this because they want to deplatform and destroy Vivienne and Brandon. They are manipulating the righteous anger of the Twitter mob to cloak their own malice in a veneer of legitimacy.

Both things can be true. Brandon did an incredibly racist thing that he absolutely should be reprimanded for. And no one is obligated to forgive him either. AND the users who leaked this (you know who I’m talking about, but I’m still not naming names in the main body of a post) should be called out for outrage farming. Basically, I think it’s worth trying to separate the legitimate anger from the malice.

If you’re familiar with P3, you know that this isn’t actually what it looks like, but it IS intentionally made to LOOK that way, so I marked it NSFW just to be safe.

I looked into the history of scuba diving and whether Vincent could have been alive at the time that the hobby was becoming popular (spoiler: he was!).

Knowing what I know now, I have this intense desire to see fanart of Vincent scuba diving (preferably with sharks). However, having no artistic skills whatsoever, I cannot make the art I want to see.

So, I’m turning to you, fanartists. Please help me out here. You can DM me, and we’ll work out details (including payment).

My nemesis (in black) just can’t go 5 minutes without harassing Hellaverse fans. It goes beyond the Hellaverse and onto all of Reddit, by the way. They stan Jax, yet they consistently go onto a Jax hate subreddit and continue to glaze Jax and shit on Ragatha and Pomni. They also post on the “I hunt Stolas for sport” subreddit. My nemesis is proving the GIFT. If they’re like this IRL, then I weep for their associates.

Despite the fact that I have told the YouTube algorithm to multiple times not to recommend negative reviews of Hazbin Hotel, I STILL get those videos recommended to me.

And it isn’t like positive reviews aren‘t being made; they just aren’t getting recommended because the algorithm rewards negativity.

To demonstrate how bad it is, YouTube recommended videos *criticizing* the Barbie short, but *not* the actual Barbie short.

The only Hellaverse related videos that YouTube recommends to me that *aren’t* critical are spicy ASMRs. Which I *appreciate*, but seriously, what the Hell? Why recommend criticism of a short, but not the actual short?

I thought Season 2 of Hazbin Hotel was an improvement on Season 1 in every possible way. Yes, I know the criticisms that have been laid against it; I do not agree with them. And, please don’t use this post to debate with me about the quality of Season 2. You won’t convince me, and I won’t convince you. You’ll just have to agree to disagree with me here.

However, as the months pass by, it seems that actual praise has gotten quieter and criticism has only gotten louder. The same thing happened when Season 1 aired, mind you, and it DID affect my enjoyment of it. I never even really noticed how much red there was until I kept seeing complaints about “too much red”. I didn’t have a problem with the pacing until I saw constant criticism of the pacing.

Now, as these “hot takes” get more and more common, and praise becomes rarer and rarer, I’m afraid it will happen again. I don‘t watch critical videos, but the mere fact of seeing them recommended could make me enjoy the show less. I’ve told the YouTube algorithm not to recommend those videos to me, and they still get recommended. I don’t want to stop enjoying the show, but the hatedom is SO LOUD that I genuinely wonder if I am just “forcing” myself to like it. I keep telling myself that it doesn’t matter what they think as long as I enjoy it, but my obsessive need to part of the in-crowd won’t let me enjoy this show unless it’s “acceptable” to do so. So what do I do? How do I remind myself that the majority of people who watched the show actually like it?

Yes, it was a long time ago. No, that does not make it okay.

Yes, the fact that a user went out of their way to drag out old evidence that is not indicative of Brandon’s current character is really shitty. Brandon deleted the video, so it’s pretty clear he disowned it.

But regardless of the motivations of the person who brought it out, it is out there now. The fact that it has resurfaced means Brandon HAS to address it.

Even if he apologized back then and has changed, he still has to apologize now. If the evidence resurfaces in another 20 years, he’ll still have to apologize then even if he apologizes NOW.

He can‘t just shrug it off as having done his penance. It is out in the open now. To not address it is to allow others to control the narrative.

So please, stop saying “It was 20 years ago, and he’s changed now”. We know. He still has to apologize again.

I looked up the history of scuba diving, and it IS theoretically possible given the timeline.

The Aqua-Lung- the first commercially successful open-circuit scuba system-
was invented in the winter of 1942-1943 by Émile Gagnan and Jacques Cousteau (yes, THAT Jacques Cousteau- basically the Carl Sagan of oceanography).

In the 1950s, recreational scuba diving was still in its early stages (it wasn’t until the 1960s that divers started using buoyancy aids), but it was already an established sport. Given the timeline, it’s entirely possible that Vincent could have swam with sharks at least once in his life. But what do you guys think?

u/Odd-Split-494 — 23 days ago

They continue to watch and talk about a show they clearly don’t like when they could just… not watch it. Do they just LIKE being annoyed and pissy? Why? No, seriously. Why would you WANT be angry on the internet? I’ve never gotten the appeal of hate watching, even though there ARE shows I hate (*cough RWBY cough*).
