Sunlit Kingdom, Free Demo on Steam!

Just released the demo for Sunlit Kingdom, a 3D tower defense where you place and control three hero types instead of static towers.

Each hero is highly customisable & unique, different abilities, etc. Game's built in a custom engine.

Demo's free on Steam: https://store.steampowered.com/app/5011470/Sunlit_Kingdom/

Sunlit Kingdom - 3D Tower Defense

Sunlit Kingdom is a 3D Fantasy Tower Defense that features a story-driven campaign that spawns across three maps + an adventures map that features infinite waves + Leaderboards (you can opt out of that).

I built a custom engine in C++ for this game. I still have 1 more map to finish + brand new enemies, planned for this Christmas (expect to fight Snow Yetis!).

All credit goes to LearnOpenGL and Blender 3D, without which it would have been impossible to pull this project on my own.

Sunlit Kingdom / 3D Tower Defense / Custom Engine / Playtest coming soon

Hello everybody!

First, a link to the game's trailer: Sunlit Kingdom - Trailer #1

Any feedback on the trailer is very welcome.

This is a 3D Tower Defense built in a custom engine. I've put a lot of love into this. I took heavy inspiration from World of Warcraft, Sacred 2, and Trine 2.

A playtest is coming very soon (I say it's a few days away). I think the game's ready, but I'd love you guys to tell me if I'm being delusional. If you want in, join the Discord below and I'll be giving keys the moment things are set up: https://discord.gg/jJbENsRqy

My C++/OpenGL tower defense project is starting to feel like a real game

Hi all

I hope you're doing well in your OpenGL journeys!

I am slowly getting closer to releasing my game

Prepare your GPU chips for that x16 MSAA & 4k Shadows! No mercy!

Jokes aside, can you guys let me know what do you think of the game at a first glance? Do you see any Warcraft 3 vibes? Would you guys play something like this?

Sorry for the AI art in the main menu + campaign map, finding an artist is VERY HARD... and someone affordable too. If any of you is an artist and you know how to do 2D illustrations for menus, maps, etc., send me a DM!

A lot has changed since AI

Hi Everyone

Everything has drastically changed. A few years ago programming and making an engine was exciting. Seeing what people built was a "wow" moment.

Now AI can help anyone build one so long as they have basic knowledge. Now the "wow" moment, at least for me, is partially gone.

How do you think 'gameenginedevs' will look like in a few years from now? More like 'aipromptdevs'?

Four years ago I was struggling to learn shaders and maths. But I was also excited about the unknown. Now Opus 4.x can deliver things in seconds.

I don't have anything against anyone using AI. All I am saying is that the human element is... left out. There's no more journeying to learn graphics programming. No more excitement. Knowledge, a lot of basic knowledge, is contained in prompts.

It feels a bit sad and strange.

How do you guys feel about it?

Hi everyone!

This is a bit of an update on the game I'm working on, TD inspired by Warcraft 3 where you are tasked with defending "something", I cannot talk much about it because the game has a story and campaign, but this is just a small update on the first act/map: Forest Pass.

https://preview.redd.it/a4amjehujszg1.png?width=1919&format=png&auto=webp&s=739d25d917f208db3ca34f0be844c20bc17a0ced

I need to rework a bit the UI, today I added new textures, flowers and decorations, baked in AO, etc.

The game features 3 classes: mage, ranger and holy knight. Each class has 4 different abilities (you can choose only one of them, therefore 4 different ways of playing each class) and each ability has 3 different upgrades to choose from (therefore 3 different builds to specialize into for each ability). You also have talents that give you raw stats.

The first map features 10 distinct enemies, a total of 30+ waves before the final boss.

If you guys are interested in seeing more of this game, on the next post I can add a discord link.
