Until what age is it appropriate to feed on demand?

I’ve been exclusively breastfeeding my 9m old baby on demand so far. She has been a hungry baby from the start and refuses formula. She is 95% for weight. She started solids at 6m and she actually consumes a decent amount or atleast did till about 8m. has been up and down. Although the last few weeks has been quite rough for solids and I feel like she is nursing more, which I understand is okay. Just wondering if it’s become a vicious cycle of nursing more leading to appetite for solids?

Until what age is it appropriate to breastfeed on demand without worrying about the amount of solids consumed?

I’ve heard “food before one is just for fun” but I don’t understand how the transition from exclusively breastfeeding at 6m to mostly eating solids at 12m and nursing for immunity/comfort happens?

Is “over weight” babies a thing?

Hello!

My baby was born at 33% for weight and now at 6 months is 98%, currently doing 1-2 full feeds and 1-2 comfort feeds between 10pm and 8:30am. I understand that this is biologically normal for her age, especially with all the distracted daytime feeds.

We offer solids 1-2 times a day and she does well on those too. Overall she seems to like to eat.

Pediatrician however thinks she is gaining weight too quickly and recommended that we night wean. This doesn’t sit right with me, especially as baby seems genuinely hungry during full night feeds and nursing of the quickest and calmest way for all of us to bet back to sleeping.

Is being “over weight” a thing for infants? If yes what are the risks and downsides of being so? I’m looking to understand if/how I’m putting my baby at risk by following her cues.
