Why do people pivot from bragging to trauma dumping when you don't validate them?

Have you ever met someone new who immediately starts listing off their life accomplishments, completely out of nowhere and without asking a single question about you?

Most people feel pressured in that moment to give them instant praise saying things like "Oh wow, that's amazing!" or "You must work so hard!" But if you don't give in to that pressure and just react neutrally, their whole strategy changes.

They get visibly confused because they're used to everyone feeding their ego. Once they realize they aren't getting admiration from you, they suddenly switch tactics and start talking about their tragic life problems, heartbreaking moments, or personal trauma instead.

It feels like a psychological maneuver: if they can't force you to admire them, they pivot to forcing you to pity them anything to guarantee an emotional reaction out of you.

Is there a specific psychological term or personality pattern for this shift from ego-seeking to pity-seeking when a person doesn't get the validation they expect?

Is doomscrolling and constant information intake overwhelming our brain's ability to process and remember dreams?

When we were kids, we had vivid dreams every night and remembered every detail because the information we consumed was low, simple, and pure. Today, as teenagers and adults, we spend all day absorbing endless micro-information through TikTok and social media.

I believe this constant information overload freezes the brain. By bedtime, our minds are so cognitively exhausted from processing media that the brain prioritizes basic recovery over REM sleep and dream memory.

Does digital overstimulation actually degrade dream recall, or is this just a natural part of aging?
