MX Linux keeps old devices relevant
Someone gave me a Lenovo flex 10 today. It has 2GB ram and a Celeron processor. I installed mx Linux on it and I'm amazed that it's actually usable now.
But now I have no idea what to do with it.

I finally installed cachyos on a machine I'm happy with. I bought the Lenovo Legion R9000X AMD advantage laptop with Ryzen 6800H and RX 6800s for just USD$660~ with 1TB nvme SSD and 16GB ram.
Wiped windows immediately and put cachy once I got it. Really excited to test it out tomorrow with some games. This will be with me on all my coding and Linux class.
I plan to let go my rog g751j laptop with I7-4710HQ and GTX 970m and 16GB RAM upgraded with 480GB SSD and 1TB HDD.
What can I get for it now? It's still working well and I've installed windows 11 pro on it too.
I love repairing and upgrading laptops. I have like 7 laptops right now even after gifting my mum one.
Every laptop is unique and I can't really bear to get rid of them. The cost of upgrading them probably slightly surpassed their value in the used market too. Also, with the cost of components going up, I feel like I should keep a couple of PCs around(I have this conspiracy theory that the corporations want to take away personal computing from us and control our lives and making rams and storage unaffordable is their first step).
And a friend is about to give me another laptop too. I'll be having 8 laptops very soon.
These are also very capable and relevant laptops today with 16gb ram, SSD, at least quad core CPUs and my best one being a Ryzen 5800h + RX 6800s(I bought it for running cachyos).
I don't wanna turn into a hoarder and I should do something with them.
Just wanna mentioned it. Did it all by myself. Swapped to hall effects thumbsticks and 53wh battery.
I finally managed to get a Tesla P100 to work on my gigabyte ga-h170-d3h motherboard with an i5-6600 cpu.
I could fit 2 of it in here. With the 32GB VRAM, what model can I run?
I might buy one of the mining boards and have like 10 of these running together. Good idea for loading a large model?
Took me about a month or so on and off to get this up.
I just released it to my current clients using my warehouse for storage and order fulfillment. But the app is quite modular in a sense that you can use it for your own inventory without using my warehouse as well.
Currenrly it's integrated with Shopee, Lazada and WooCommerce. Shopify will be coming soon and I'm also currently working on Tiktok Shop integration. Then Amazon and Shopline after.
Your inventory will be synced together, so no more over-selling and getting penalties on the ecommerce platforms. If you have a warehouse, the order gets pushed to the warehouse manually or automatically. Returns and inbound shipments all run through the app.
There's detailed analytics where you can drill down your top and worst products/brands/categories(so you can scale the good ones and cut the bad ones), customer lifetime value across the different platforms with customer enrichment as well.
We enrich the customer data through automatically parsing the waybill from shopee and lazada(and future integrations), and also your website. Our AI will automatically suggest a match with a confidence score based on how likely the customer on shopee is the same on say Woocommerce, based on their names, postal code and address.
You can also link your bundles on the platforms to your individual items. So say if you sell a product in a bundle of 4 on Shopee, it can automatically deduct 4 units in your inventory.
If anyone is interested, more than happy to let you test it out. I'm also open to any collaboration.
I'm thinking of getting the 81wh battery upgrade and a trackpad sticker. Any interesting accessories I should buy? I also got a foldable keyboard to use with the legion go on the go.
It's a z1e in case it matters.
Someone traded me a HP Elitebook 8460p. I will be giving it a maximum upgrade to I7-2620qm, 16GB dual channel ram, replacing the dvd drive with a hdd caddy, wifi card upgrade and an expresscard egpu to be hooked up with a rx 580 8gb for the fun of it and try some games with it.
I am taking a class on Linux very soon, and I want to install CachyOS on it. Will this work well since it seems the minimum requirement is Haswell. It says that the performance benefits is diminished if I have CachyOS for anything less than an intel 4th gen. Should i go with Arch instead?
Didn't have time to share it, as I've been busy with work and studies. It's not fully complete yet. I will be spray painting the gpu white when I get the chance.
I have a pc hooked up to my tv. Previously using the nvidia control panel, I could only overclock it to 75hz. The base frequency of the TV should be 50 or 60hz. With the nvidia app I could now push it to 110hz. I was quite surprised with the results.
So about 2 months ago, I bought a used Lenovo Ideapad Y410p laptop for like $50. And one thing I really wanted to achieve was playing D2R on it with the best settings possible. Hopefully, this can help some of you with low end laptops with a dgpu however weak it may be to play some additional newer games.

I've then went on to upgrade everything on the laptop.

Processor: I7-4700MQ
RAM: Samsung DDR3 8GB x 2 (Dual Channel)
GPU 0: Intel HD Graphics 4600
GPU 1: GT 755m
GPU 2: GT 755m(this laptop supports SLI)
SSD 1: 32GB M.2 2242 SATA SSD(Windows 11 IoT Enterprise LTSC OS Only)
SSD 2: 480GB SSD
Display: 1366 x 768 60Hz

I've also replaced the broken speakers, repasted the thermal paste on the gpu and cpu. I also bought a newer WiFi card that supports 5GHz bandwidth, but I bought the wrong one, so I gotta wait for right one to arrive.

When I got the laptop originally, it failed terribly, and wouldn't even maintain 30fps on normal gameplay. These are the things I did to optimize the performance as best as it can be.

1.) Separate OS from games installation.

2.) Use Windows 11 Iot Enterprise LTSC version because this comes with the least bloat

3.) Dual channel RAM. I don't think you need 16GB for old laptops especially if you're gonna close everything before launching your game. But 16GB helps so that in the event you use more than 8GB RAM, it doesn't use up your SSD. I went up with 16GB coz I only used a 32GB SSD for the OS(that cost me like $6 only).

At this stage I was actually able to get a minimum 30fps to a maximum 50fps against what I had previously which was 23-48FPS and most of the time it stayed at around 28FPS.

4.) Here's where the magic happens. It's no secret but I used Lossless Scaling. I turn on FSR upscaling, fixed mode with 2X multiplier and performance mode. No G-Sync or sync mode turned on. In game settings, I switch to windows mode and resolution at 1280 x 720(lowest possible), and turned down all my graphic settings and set a frame rate cap of 30 fps. I was surprised that LSFG worked. Because previously it would always fail before I did these upgrades and FPS actually got worse.

5.) Lastly, I went to increase the graphic settings and was surprised that I could turn up quite a bit of settings except for the environment textures. I'd say the game looked amazing compared to the Nintendo switch version I used to play on. With the 14" screen and the GPU, I don't see a need to be playing at 1080p anyway.

Overall, I think this has been amazing. I think if I have a laptop with MX250 or something, I could achieve ultra settings doing the same thing. I'll definitely be loading up a couple more games especially like the witcher 3 with SLI support then throw in LSFG on top if it and see what happens. I will also test out Cyberpunk, might be able to get a base 25fps to frame gen to 50fps.

I think this sort of laptop is still highly relevant today. If you're shopping around for one, you wanna be looking out for these:
- Make sure the laptop has 4 cores and 8 threads. These would be the i7 cpus ending with QM, MQ or HQ, not the ones ending with U

- Make sure it has a dedicated GPU. The better the dgpu, the more games you can play.

- Get dual channel rams, 4gb x 2 or 8gb x 2, whichever you could afford

- Get 2 SSDs. One for your OS and other programs, One for your games. Most older laptops came with a dvd drive which you can swap out for a HDD bay instead and have 2 drives. Some of them have a mSATA or M.2 slot(usually SATA only)

- Reapply thermal paste and a laptop cooler(might help, I didn't use one). Overheating means thermal throttle.

- Definitely don't game on a soft surface to allow fresh air intake for cooling

I come across these laptops all the time for $20-50 used in my area. So if anyone is looking for a machine that could play some of these games, look out for such laptops.

I had a lot of fun experimenting, hope this helps some of you out.
I have the smaller acer Ferrari laptop that was ever featured on Salem techsperts channel. It runs on ddr2. I don't have the charger for it now but I could try and get one to see if it works. Battery probably needs replacing, but I doubt it cost much. Probably like 50usd to get it working.

I also have an alienware m17x r4 nebula red. Apparently this could be some limited edition model. Theres a lot of repairs needed for it. Motherboard replacement(because bios is locked, dell gave the recovery password but it doesn't work as well), screen replacement, new charger, new battery. It comes with a hdd and also 16gb of dual channel rams with 2 additional empty slots. The current gpu should be a gtx 680m. Cost of getting it work again is probably about $200.

The alienware is definitely still usable with the i7-3610qm cpu. And probably nice to use up the other 2 x 2gb ddr3 rams I have lying around and make it 20GB. I'm thinking I could upgrade the gpu to a HD 8970m which would cost me another $50, and then install arch Linux on a 16GB msata I have lying around as well. I could also throw in another ssd and make it a powerful machine. Everything will come up to about $300 though and I'm not sure if its worth it.

Ive also recently fully restored and upgraded a lenovo y410p. Added another gt 755m sli card to replace the dvd drive, bought a more powerful charger to support the dual gpu, upgraded the WiFi card, added a 32gb M.2 2242 ssd and installed windows 11 Iot Enterprise LTSC on it. And also added a 480gb SSD and replaced the speakers which were faulty. The entire upgrade including the laptop itself cost me about $170.

I've been flipping pcs for about half a year or so now. But started to get into laptops because they have really interesting history and there are some nice deals in my neighbourhood that I couldn't resist. But I've only really sold a laptop for cash till date and it was just a small profit. The rest I ended up trading them away for pc or pc parts to build more to sell.

I was thinking of keeping the y410p and probably give it to a family member to use since it's still pretty good and the backlight on it still makes it look a little modern.

I do have a couple more laptops which I would probably upgrade for own use or sell some of those away.

By the way, I do have a lenovo legion r7000p with rtx 2060 as my daily driver and planning to buy a R7000P with Rx6600m as a secondary Linux machine.

I could maybe make some of these laptops run AI agents but I have way too many computers around.

Sorry for yapping. What are your suggestions?

TLDR: I have too many laptops. Some of the standard ones I will sell them away. But I have 2 limited edition laptops that I don't know if it's worth it to sell. If not, what should I do with them.
I have windows pc everywhere and I'm trying to get away from windows eventually but I can't because of nvidia gpus. I have turned my pc into Linux mint and used that for about 6 months that I enjoyed but had to switch back to windows because certain apps just don't work well on Linux. On my desktops I tend to stick to nvidia gpu because I use Ray tracing on them as I have excess fps that I feel like it's a waste to not use rt in them, but then nvidia doesn't play well with Linux.
I've looked into my local used market and most of them come with really old or basic amd dgpus with only 1gb vram so it's really hard to use them as a daily driver when I have pcs or laptops that serve my purposes better.
I'm thinking of buying a lenovo legion r7000p used which comes with ryzen 7 5800h and Rx6600m. I'll turn it into into cachyos. It'll cost me just below 500usd with 16gb ram and 512gb nvme ssd.
Is this a good idea?
I got a white case, fans, aio cooler, extension cables. Will be spray painting my gpu as well.
I want to use an ATX X570 motherboard and there isn't anything that's pure white. Should I get an asus prime x570-p instead? There's white casing above the pch fan and the heat sinks are metallic silver.
I'm getting tired of Windows and I want to switch to bazzite so I can control everything easily with my game controller(hopefully a steam controller later) without dealing with all the annoying onedrive ads and constant windows updates, but I have an nvidia gpu on it. I heard nvidia gpus just don't perform as well on Linux than on windows? I really want to use nvidia though, for Ray tracing because my tv is only 1080p which I overclocked to 75hz so I don't need that much fps.
A little background, I've used Linux mint xfce on my work pc for about 6 months so I'm perfectly comfortable troubleshooting issues, but I hope to get the same level of performance as when my pc was on windows.
Specs:
Ryzen 5 5600X
Corsair vengeance 3600mhz 8gb x 4
Rtz 3080
Gigabyte X570 Gaming X motherboard
TV is a sharp 1080p display which defaults 60hz but overclocked using nvidia control panel to 75hz.
So I was browsing FB marketplace, I came across a Lenovo Y410p listed for $80. I managed to negotiate it down to $50.
Things I've done so far is adding another stick of ram to get it to 16GB, bought a 500GB sata SSD and a 128GB m.2 2242 sata ssd(for boot), and newer wifi card for 5ghz frequency, a ultrabay with gt 755m where i can SLI it with the GT 755m that's on the laptop, a 170w charger to support the laptop in sli mode. Basically the upgrades cost more than the actual laptop itself.
From what I know, I'd get close to a GTX 660 or GTX 750ti level of performance with the 2 GPU running on SLI which is pretty cool for a laptop of this age.
I already own a gaming PC with rtx 3080 and controller hooked up like a console to my TV, another pc with rtx 3070 if playing games with KB + M, ROG Ally z1e, steam deck and a lenovo gaming laptop with Ryzen 7 4800h + RTX 2060. My wallet gets itchy when I see good deals on older tech. My thinking is to convert this to Linux and use it as a secondary laptop for now. But if you guys have any better ideas, I'd love to hear it.
Edit: Here the specs I7-4700mq Gt 755m x2 16gb ddr3 ram
I went on the 2nd hand market, found a lenovo y410p for just $50. I couldn't help but buy it coz it's a steal for how good a value the laptop is.
But I already have a ryzen 5 5600x + rtx 3080 living room gaming "console", a work pc using ryzen 5 5600 + rtx 3070, a lenovo laptop with ryzen 7 4800h + rtx 2060 and I also own a steam deck lcd and rog ally z1e already.
What should I do with this laptop? Here's the specs
1600 x 900, 60hz display Intel i7-4700mq 4 cores, 8 threads 8gb ddr3 ram 1tb hdd(which I'll replace with a small ssd I've got)
I finally bought RotW with the recent sale on pc.
Background:
I played for like 4 years of D2r on my switch., maxed out my character slots, had all sorts of different builds.
But now I play more on my PC and handheld rog ally and I'm migrating my characters over. I have to manually rebuild them using a hero editor which takes so long.
I waited on RotW coz I know there'd be a sale eventually because I previously bought d2r, and like after a while later, it went on sale at 50%. Now it's at 20% so I just went ahead and bought the expansion.
From what I know there's not much change to d2r characters. Terror zone had some changes, there's new content new bosses to fight, some new rune words. But other than that, is there anything I should know before I convert, because there's no turning back.
