Older dog overwhelmed by new puppy,

Hi I posted this before so this is basically just a follow up, I’m gonna leave everything else here but theres a new behavior w our older dog that I can’t quite figure out.

we have a six-year-old older dog and a new puppy that we got about a month ago, our six-year-old puppy she is probably a small as a Chihuahua and our new puppy is probably as tiny as a Yorkie.

Our six-year-old dog seems to be nervous or scared as whenever we put the puppy near her or she gets a glimpse of him or hears him. She goes and hides under the bed and she won’t come out or she’s on top of the bed so the puppy can’t jump up.

Our puppy just really wants to play and I’m trying to not have him try to follow her and cross her boundaries because the other day she lunged at him kind of, growled and kind of open mouth bit??? the puppy wasn’t bit or injured and so it was not really attacking but what I assume was her correcting his behavior and so then she ran away and went to go hide.

TLDR; older dog overwhelmed by new puppy with energy, runs away, hides etc.. got recommended to get a trainer and that is an option before ruling out everything else) Scroll all the way to the bottom for new behavior that I can’t quite understand, hoping someone will know?)

Just now a few minutes ago, our six-year-old dog was barking at somebody outside and I went out my room and I placed the puppy down near me. Of course I didn’t let him loose towards her because I don’t want her to get scared but she turned around and she kind of got into sort of a lunging position and growled/barked and it kind of looked like she wanted to attack, but it was more like she was on high alert? She stayed back from a distance.

I’m kind of scared for her to actually attack the puppy because she seems just to be really scared of dogs and she does have resource guarding problems with people that we cannot fix at home. Does anyone have any advice or is there any professional places that help in this category? Where it can help our dog be more comfortable with the pup?

I’m just kind of out of ideas and I’ve already put doggy gates so the puppy cannot go follow our older dog who can jump over stuff well, but but I’m more kind of just concerned that our dog will end up attacking the puppy, she has never attacked another animal before, but I am scared because the puppy seems to cross her boundaries a lot.

FOLLOW UP , hey so, i know this is an old post but recently we are thinking of getting a trainer so THATS 100% an option if we find a right one. But, is there any explanation as to the situation that happened just now?

Everyone was sitting down watching tv, puppy running around living room with a box down blocking the hallway to our other dog so he doesn’t chase her down… he suddenly looked over the box and he was just looking down the hall when our older dog came out and rushed down the hall, ears up, tail SLIGHTLY wagging if I remember correctly and just staring at the puppy with a upright posture barking repeatedly.. what type of new behavior is this? he didn’t do anything, she didnt lunge, or try to attack but just barked at him as he stared at her until I picked him up and she just watched before turning away back to the room.

recommendations for puppy training locations?

Hi, I’m trying to find a location to train a new puppy on a budget and have good reviews! We recently got a new puppy and he’s sweet overall and really easy to train for simple commands like sit, spin, etc. but he has problems with resource guarding and I don’t think it’s something I can train at home so if there’s any places recommended for young puppy resource guarding that would be great..

Also, if anyone knows any places that will take two dogs and go over the way they behave (unsure if some places have an option for this specifically.) because our older dog seems overwhelmed by our new puppy and she also resource guards food but not around our puppy, She hasn’t come close enough to resource guard so if there’s any places that will maybe release her anxiety and observe them? locations needed, thanks!

puppy resource guarding

Hi, so I recently posted to another sub Reddit about my puppy resource guarding and it was a short video and it wasn’t very helpful because in that video he wasn’t being very aggressive.

People believe that he’s just a puppy and puppies don’t resource guard but I know what resource guard looks like. If I have something he wants or he thinks it’s his I try to take it away because it’s not safe. He will growl or try to bite and thrash his head around.

I learned that trading is a good training tip for resource guarding so I would offer him a high value treat and tell him to drop it and he would and that is still an ongoing training.. but just now I was trying to teach him command commands since he knows basic ones, and the newest command I’m trying to teach is for him to wait whenever I drop food so I can give a OK if he could go eat it. I put the food on the ground. Tell him to wait and if he doesn’t, I pick it back up, but he seemed to be faster,

In which led to him launching forward when I try to move my hand and he attacked my hand bit it and roughly thrashed his mouth around on my hand and then drew blood. If there’s any tips that anyone could give me about this resource guard that would be wonderful.

He may look sweet, but it isnt very nice to have a cute puppy that resource guards …

Puppy eye

puppy CANT open one eye

He’s acting normal and playing and barking and doing whatever he does as usual, but he keeps on rubbing his eye with his paw, and he eventually started whining a little bit and let out a little yelp. I tried cleaning the eye, but it still doesn’t seem to help he gets it wide-open and then right back. He goes back to squinting and blinking just that one eye???

Suspension on twitch (FALSE)

Hey, so I got suspended on Twitch a few days ago for the reasoning stated in the picture. I’m not really sure what I did. I assumed it was maybe a joke I made since Twitch seems to base it off of that??? But I have made other jokes years ago when I was streaming and never really gotten a warning or a suspension.

I was honestly expecting a warning first cause that would’ve been nice, but it was just immediately straight to suspension that day.

One thing is for sure is that I know I didn’t get bought viewers or got followers. I had checked it on the website and I checked my followers and viewers before I had gotten suspended just to make sure nobody was viewing or follow bothering me in which would result in a suspension.

So that is off the list, I might be a little slow when it comes to reading Twitch’s terms, etc. so if anybody could explain what would be the best idea to do here that would be nice. Is it true I have to wait six months before setting up another similar appeal to get unsuspended? This image is after I sent a appeal to the portal and they immediately denied it so it would be nice if someone could let me know..

Ps. I don’t hack at all if anyone is wondering… I stream overwatch in life is strange games so!!!! just to clear that up

HELP!!!

EMERGENCY PUPPY

Hey, so we have a little puppy no bigger than maybe a yorkie Chihuahua, he likes to eat everything, and he bit onto a rolled roach / cnnbis in which I rushed and took it out of his mouth, and mostly all of the pieces fell whenever I ripped it out so he didn’t really swallow anything? Just had the taste lingering on his tongue

But he’s currently really lethargic and sleepy, and every time I pick him up to wake up, he does wake up, but then he falls back asleep fast and every time I stand him up, he walks over to me but a little bit swaying, and then he sits down still sleepy.. is this an emergency? Im kind of scared and everyone is fast asleep, what should I do? His heartbeat seems fine like a puppies that is usually fast. Hes breathing fine.

what could this rash/irritation scabs be on the side of my knee?

I have itchy red scabs from itching the same spot, I have never been to a doctor for eczema as I thought that’s what it could have been when I first discovered it.

Last winter I had the same kind of reaction in the same spot AND also in the back of my knee but it ISNT there anymore. It comes back every few months and itches really bad so it scabs. I don’t have any soaps that would cause irritation so it can’t be a reaction and I have tried lotions meant for eczema but it seems to not really do much as the same spot just drys up and feels rough and itches still, any guesses?

early puppy resource guarding

Hey, so my puppy has been resource guarding and I have searched up a bunch of ways and I heard that trading the object that they won’t let go and teaching a drop it command works.

I think teaching leave it or drop. It will be very difficult for this puppy because he is very stubborn and refuses to drop it but this is a before and after video of when he had a cup in his mouth and he kept running away and every time I grabbed him, he would turn away from me so I was thinking maybe I would bring one of his toys and try to trade it, but he did not like that and so he did not drop it or really care

I then grabbed a piece of his kibble and held it up to his nose while saying to drop it and then rewarded him for dropping it. Is this a good way that I’m trying to teach him to follow my command? I feel like I might mess it up and accidentally teach him the opposite and that will lead to aggression so if anybody could maybe give me tips or feedback on these videos that would be great… PS sorry for my voice lol

Hey, so I have a puppy and he’s very sweet sometimes and he is going through the biting phase, the shark phase but I realized just now that he might have some early resource guard aggression. He’s as tiny as maybe a Chihuahua Shih Tzu lol… but if I grab something he isn’t supposed to have while it’s in his mouth and try to pull it away he will start growling intensely and for the first time I can tell that it is aggression and it is not play. He is no older than probably a month or two??

He kind of grits his teeth and bares them and bites to hurt and not to play. Is this normal or is there any way I can train this because he has never shown signs of doing anything like this before with his food he’s completely fine with me touching his food or his toys but it’s just one specific thing that is mine that I took away from him… I could also just be overreacting, but it is different from how he usually plays.

After he kind of grit his teeth and tried to bite down hard on my hand, side eyeing me, I put him down on the ground for a few seconds and let him calm down before picking him back up onto the bed… if I could get some tips, that would be great

other dog is afraid of new puppy

Hey, so I’m gonna try to keep this as short as possible, but we recently got a new puppy and we have had an adult female dog for about six years. She has shown signs of resource guarding, but I trained her and we eventually fix the food bowl resource guarding, but anything else else she will growl and she will not let me in a room sometimes and I have brought it up that she needs serious training, but I am not being listened to

Anyway, we got a new puppy and she has just been very scared and stressed out and my family won’t make it any better and is trying to make the new puppy meet our other dog forcibly and honestly, I think that’s just stressful and very overstimulating and that can lead to aggression.

But of course, I am the youngest in the family so obviously I won’t be heard, but our puppy usually chases our other dog under furniture as she is trying to get away and we do end up stopping the puppy from chasing her and saying no because he wants to play with her, but obviously our other dog has boundaries and is trying to get away.

I have said this before, if our puppy keeps on chasing our other dog, then it’s gonna lead to something because she has boundaries and I can’t do anything about that because the puppy is just forcing the interaction or my family is forcing it.

. but today our puppy chased other dog in which she tried to hide behind someone and then walked out, and the puppy got closer and not seeing the signs of her growling for the first time she lashed out didn’t bite down, but almost kind of showed a warning sign of correcting him??? I assume? But I’m afraid it could lead to something worse.

Is there anything I could do to train my puppy not to follow or not cross boundaries and to have our other dog warm-up to the puppy? Not by force, whats the best approach here? no criticism PLEASE.. (P .S how do I know if older dog is correcting the behavior or being aggressive?)

(NO CRATE TRAINING ADVICE!) Hi guys, it’s currently 5:35 AM as I write this and I just woke up because my puppy decided to get up from the bed and roam around. Assuming he has to pee so I let him down to pee. He didn’t end up peeing and then ended up crying to get back up on the bed.

TLDR; puppy won’t let me sleep and our sleep schedules are the opposite of each others, we don’t crate train, he sleeps in my bed and only takes naps. Never sleeps through the whole night.

The last time I made a post people were getting at me for I guess being a bad owner and I’m sorry for that? But I would appreciate it if you guys would take the time and listen to me and maybe help me through this. I don’t want to get criticism.

I have a puppy and we do not crate train him, but we are working to get a crate for him so please understand I let my puppy sleep in my bed ever since we got him, but it seems like it’s messed with my sleep schedule because he’s always wanting to play and then when I’m awake after I tried to get him to settle down. He then goes to sleep after about 30 minutes and im wide awake.

Ever since I got this puppy, my sleep schedule has been well, but then as soon as I let him sleep in my bed, it’s been kind of iffy because I will have to stay up all night because he does not want to go to sleep and only takes about an hour nap in which I cannot sleep.

I am worried that he’s gonna pee on the bed or poop on the bed, while I’m asleep because he doesn’t whine when he needs to go to the bathroom and honestly, I wish he would just wake me up if he needed to because that would be so much easier… so I sleep for hours during the day because that’s the only time that he kind of matches up with my schedule (?)

HES like a newborn baby!!! I always wake up around the middle of the night because he is on me or being playful so then when I wake up, I let him down to go potty and have a drink of water and then I let him back up and then he is playful for about another 30 minutes or an hour and then he falls back asleep but it isn’t long enough for me to go back to bed because he kept me up playing for so long and now I’m awake…

He does take naps during the day and the most he sleeps is maybe about an hour and a half or maybe two and then he’s right back up and ready to play, since I’m exhausted from not being able to sleep at night I do take an hour nap or a two hour nap while he’s down in asleep, but it does still mess up with my schedule because he wakes up and runs around again for about an hour and then goes back to sleep, it’s just a non stop loop and im exhausted.

This puppy isn’t even my puppy. It is my brother’s puppy in which I don’t even know why I’ve been taking care of it and potty trading it, etc I need a break!!! I cannot let my puppy down onto the floor while I’m asleep because it is not puppy proved there’s a bunch of wires that he can bite into and im worried. This may all be anxiety because he always worries me but honestly, I don’t know what to do anymore. I do know I need a break though.
