Does anyone know where a European can get a Metallic Rose DSi XL from?

Does anyone know where a European can get a Metallic Rose DSi XL from?

I’m from Europe and my favourite ever colour of any DS console ever is the Metallic Rose DSi XL. Unfortunately for me, the Metallic Rose edition is a North American exclusive, and everywhere I’ve tried to look doesn’t ship to Europe. I feel like I’m out of luck, but does anyone know if it’s possible for me to get this specific colour, or should I just give up hope?

Do you see this as cheating? (Please read)

I have a Lucky Egg on my other Pokémon Platinum save file, I could trade it over to speed up training before you even have access to the lucky egg. The question is though, do you guys see doing that as cheating? The game doesn’t intend for you to get the item that early, and I want my playthrough to be authentic with no cheats.

I won’t be overlevelling, I like to implement level caps even when I’m not doing nuzlockes (to the current gym leader’s highest levelled mon). Just feels more fair to me.

New 3DS XL or New 2DS XL?

Which one do YOU prefer? Are you actually losing out on much if you choose to spend less than the New 3DS XL on the New 2DS XL version?

Should I use Floatzel or Vaporeon?

Hi all, playing Pokémon Platinum for the first time and I was wondering if Floatzel or Vaporeon is better for my specific team? I really like both and I wouldn’t mind using either, just not sure which one would perform better.

(My other team member is Gabite.)

Should I buy a 3DS XL or a ‘New’ 3DS XL on a budget?

I’m looking to buy a 3DS XL model. Unfortunately, the prices are terrible nowadays and I don’t want to spend a fortune. I’ve found that 3DS XL models are a lot cheaper than the ‘New’ 3DS XL models and although I know the 3D is better, I really don’t care about it since I never plan on using the 3D feature.

Is there any other major differences between the two models? Planning to mod and the 3DS XL has a much more accessible SD card and I don’t have any micro SD cards which the ‘New’ model requires. But even still is it worth spending extra money just for a newer model?

Nicknames?

Doing a Pokémon Platinum Version run soon for the first time and I’d love if people were able to recommend nicknames or a naming theme as I’m not very creative and I want some inspiration :)

This is the planned team:

Infernape, Staraptor, Luxray, Garchomp, Vaporeon, Weavile

Any answers are appreciated. Thank you!!

DSi XL squeaky hinge??

As the title suggests. The hinge is completely fine whenever I open the console normally, but when I close it, there’s a squeaking sound until it closes fully. Does anyone know what to do or how to fix it? I’m scared to open the console up because I don’t want to damage it… I also want to clarify that there’s no other issues with the console and I take good care of it, this is the only issue I’ve came across. I know it’s an old console, but is it normal for it to do that because of its age? It only just started doing it today.

How good is Vaporeon in Pokémon Platinum? (actually)

Diving (no pun intended) into one of my favourite pokemon of all time and the pokemon I have the most merch of! Recently I’ve made a post discussing Glaceon and we’ve all came to a general consensus - Glaceon is a pokemon ruined by its speed stat of 65 that limits it from being the sweeper it clearly wants to be with that base 130 attack, and also its late availability. Although you get Eevee reasonably early in the game, by Hearthome City at Level 20 (platinum only), Glaceon is not legitimately available for players until right before the seventh gym.

So how good is Vaporeon in Pokémon Platinum? Is it just an objectively superior Glaceon? Let’s look at its stats first:

HP - 130
Attack - 65
Defence - 60
Sp. Attack - 110
Sp. Defence - 95
Speed - 65

Vaporeon clearly wants to be a slow tank that can take special attacks well and dish back out some good damage with that 110 base special attack. That base HP of 130 allows it to possibly take a good physical attack too, despite Vaporeon’s low defence. By the time you get Vaporeon after you get the water stone in the Solaceon Ruins which isn’t far after you get Eevee, Vaporeon will most likely have the highest HP of your entire team and fulfill its role as a tank from the moment you get it. It’s a pretty decent pivot for set mode if you suspect a non super-effective special hit coming in and don’t know how else to deal with it.

Let’s look at the moveset you’ll likely be using for Vaporeon, its staple moves: surf, ice beam, shadow ball, and a filler slot that’s likely to be toxic or a HM move.

The problem with this moveset despite its obvious power is once again, availability. Eevee is actually flawed by the high level you get it at as although it’s almost caught up to your team in levels, it missed out on an elemental move for the Eeveelution you choose to get, water gun in this case, leaving Vaporeon with NO STAB moves until surf. Although you can easily have a Vaporeon soon after you beat Fantina when you find the water stone inside Solaceon Ruins, you actually will not get its best move, surf, until after Crasher Wake (the 5th gym). It’s still a decent wait then as well, as you have to battle Cyrus FIRST to get the HM from Cynthia’s grandmother after the battle in Celestia town.

And although ice beam IS technically avaliable in Veilstone City, it’s highly unlikely that you will have the money at that point of the game unless you actively CHOOSE to grind to either buy it with Pokedollars (200K to exchange for coins from the game corner) or you somehow get all of the coins from gambling without going insane or losing patience. Luckily, shadow ball is at least avaliable after beating Fantina (she gives it to you via TM), and TM06 toxic you can find in Pastoria City. However, if I remember correctly, ghost type moves aren’t so useful after Fantina for a while so shadow ball should be used just to utilise Vaporeon’s highly superior special attack.

So Vaporeon will be relying on shadow ball for a while as its main attack because its attack is mediocre at best. Vaporeon is a pokemon you’ll be investing a LOT of TMs into to make it viable.

However, once you actually get all of the moves for its moveset, Vaporeon seems like a very solid and trustworthy member of your team. It’s a tank that doesn’t JUST function as a tank but something that dishes hits out well with STAB surf, base 95 power ice beam which you can always boost with the nevermeltice, base 80 power shadow ball, and toxic which allows Vaporeon to stall out something the player sees as a threat, or as a last resort move if the player has no answers. Vaporeon literally seems like an objectively better Glaceon in every way possible other than its ice beam being slightly weaker than Glaceon’s.

What do you think of Vaporeon? Do you agree that Vaporeon is a better Glaceon? Do you think there’s better options for a water type tank? Do you think it’s worth the TM grind and the investment of waiting you put into it to reach its full potential? I’m interested in hearing your thoughts.

(As always, please keep discussions respectful and try to be as objective as possible. This is a post about performance, not whether you love or hate Vaporeon itself.)

UPDATE: Fantina doesn’t actually give you shadow ball, she gives you shadow claw. That’s my bad and I should’ve fact checked that as I did almost everything else here. You get shadow ball after Crasher Wake.

How good is Glaceon in Pokémon Platinum? (actually)

Hi all! So I made a similar post about Lucario yesterday which got quite a lot of views and upvotes… so I’ve decided to make more discussion posts like this since people seem to enjoy that type of post here!

Here’s a more interesting one, and a personal favourite of mine in terms of design: Glaceon. An ice type eeveelution introduced in Generation 4 with 130 base special attack, 110 base defence, and 95 base special defence. Ice is an amazing offensive type, so it seems like Glaceon would be an amazing pick up, right? Especially with how reasonably early you get Eevee in Pokémon Platinum (notice how I haven’t said Diamond and Pearl? Yeah you need the national dex), in Hearthome city before your gym battle with Fantina.

So what’s the problem with Glaceon? You’d think based on these things it would be an amazing pick for any Sinnoh team, right? Especially with how important people regard the ice type in the Sinnoh games, and I’m sure everyone knows what I’m talking about here.

Well, the problem with Glaceon and the thing that sets it back most is availability. Not for Eevee, but for Glaceon. And as great as Glaceon’s main attacking stat and its defences are, its speed is a low base 65, with its HP being the same which can counteract those amazing defences.

You want to use Glaceon on your team? You’ll be lugging around an Eevee and waiting until Snowpoint city - before the SEVENTH gym.

Even so, do you guys think it’s worth it? What are your thoughts on Glaceon in Pokémon Platinum Version? Is it worth the grind? I’m interested in hearing your thoughts. I’ve never personally used one before and I rarely ever see it used, so I have no idea on its performance.

(As always, please keep discussions respectful and preferably objective. Opinions are okay on its design and how much you like it, but how much you like a pokémon doesn’t affect performance.)

Just got 3 Bronzors in a row with metal coat…

I thought I’d be there forever trying to find Bronzors with metal coats with how long it took when I played Crystal… caught a few and then found out they all had metal coats! If I’m correct, they were all 5% chances too!

What is your favourite DS model?

What is everyone’s favourite original DS models, not counting 3D? Personally I like the DSi XL the most for the larger form factor and the standard IPS screens, plus it’s more comfortable for me to hold larger systems. Some people prefer the DS lite for gba backwards compatibility but I feel like the DSi models have more to offer and are easier to mod if you’re interested in that sort of stuff. I barely see anyone talk about the original DS but it looks cool in my opinion.

How good is Lucario in Pokémon Diamond/Pearl/Platinum?

How good actually IS Lucario in the Sinnoh games?

I made a team building post for Pokémon Platinum version on this subreddit and people were calling Lucario useless and recommending against it. I understand that it’s a grind to get it as you get riolu from an egg and obviously it’s a friendship evolution, but is it really not worth it in Platinum? Looking at its stats and typing, it seems great, especially since you get the riolu egg before an ice area and an ice gym where it would be most useful, and Lucario has always been a favourite of mine.

I know that that it’s best in the Gen 5 sequels (Black 2 and White 2) but does that mean that it’s not worth it at all in Gen 4 because of the late availability and the excessive grind to get it? I’m interested in hearing people’s thoughts on this.

(And obviously please keep discussions respectful)

Pokémon Platinum Team Suggestions?

Gonna be going through my first playthrough of platinum soon. I’ve already decided on 3 that I’m going to use, but I’m not sure who else to add.

Any suggestions? Feel free to suggest additions and removals as well as movesets. Any responses are appreciated :)

Pokémon White 2 Team Suggestions?

Gonna be going through my first White 2 playthrough soon! Anyone have any team suggestions? These are the pokemon I’ve picked so far that I’m set on using, but there’s so many good pokemon in these games that I’m lost on who else to add.

Feel free to suggest any additions or removals! (I know Serperior isn’t that good in Unova but I definitely want to keep him)

Advice for DS lite?

Hi all! I’m trying to complete my (OG) DS collection. Right now i have the silver DS (phat), black DSi, and the wine red DSi XL.

Which colour ds lite do you all think would look best for my collection? I’m going to be putting them on display. Problem is that the lite has so many options that it’s hard for me to pick.

Please comment if the colour is not on here as I’m only allowed to put 6 options on the poll. Thanks to everyone who contributes! I really would appreciate any input :)

Help for pokemon platinum team!!!

Okay, I'm in a bit of a dilemma.

My two favourite Sinnoh pokemon are Garchomp and Gliscor. I'm gonna start playing platinum for the first time soon, so I don't know how they perform ingame.

Here's my current planned out team:

Infernape, Luxray, Roserade, Garchomp, water type (haven’t decided yet)

I was wondering if Gliscor is underwhelming if I use Garchomp? Obviously both can't have earthquake, but is that a massive problem? Should I just use Staraptor instead, even if I like Gliscor more? There's also that shared 4X ice weakness... does it matter?

I'll appreciate any input. Thanks :)

Team recommendations?

Hi all! Gonna start playing pokemon platinum for the first time ever soon and I’m interested in your opinions. I need a water type for my team but have no idea of the best option to use.

Here’s my team:

Infernape, Staraptor, Luxray, Garchomp, Roserade

(I know it’s incredibly basic but these are just my favourites)

Anyone have any recommendations? I know Gyarados is the best but don’t really want to use him as I used him in heartgold and I don’t want THREE overpowered Pokemon in my team since I’m already using infernape and Garchomp. Plus Gyarados’s intimidate overlaps with 2 of my members.

Will appreciate any responses. :)
