Hi everyone,

I'm an outside Delhi female candidate and I just received my provisional offer letter for the BS-MS program yesterday.

The only thing that's really bothering me right now is the hostel situation. I got admission through my NEET score, which honestly isn't very high, so I don't think I'll rank high enough on the hostel merit list.

In case I don't get hostel accommodation:

1)Are there enough PGs/flats around the SAU campus?

2)Are they generally safe for female students?

3)What's the approximate monthly cost?

Also, would it still be worth joining South Asian University without a hostel, or would I be better off choosing GGSIPU (USBT) for B.Tech Biotechnology instead?

My long-term goal is to build a career in biological sciences and eventually move abroad for a Master's/PhD, so research opportunities and future prospects matter much more to me than placements.

I passed Class 12 this year with around 90% in PCB and scored around 400 in NEET. To be honest, medicine was never really my dream. I considered it briefly in Class 11 because that's just the default path for most PCB students, but I gradually realized that what actually excites me is biological research, not clinical practice.

I'm interested in fields like molecular biology, genomics, proteomics, immunology, virology, genetics—basically lab-based biological research.

I appeared for NEST but missed the cutoff by a small margin. I couldn't appear for the IISER Aptitude Test because it was on the same day as the Pantnagar entrance exam, so I chose to write the Pantnagar exam instead.

At the moment, these are my options:

- Govind Ballabh Pant University (Pantnagar) – I have a CRL in the 450s (Uttarakhand domicile), so I'll most likely get B.Tech Biotechnology.

- University School of Biotechnology (USBT), GGSIPU Delhi – I've already been allotted B.Tech Biotechnology, and reporting is next week.

- I also got VIT Vellore CSE (Bioinformatics), Category 3, but I let that go because I don't really see myself pursuing computer science.

My long-term goal is to become a researcher. Ideally, I'd like to crack GATE BT and get into IISc or one of the IITs for my master's. If that doesn't work out, I'd like to apply for an MS/PhD abroad. Either way, I know I'll need a strong CV with good research experience, internships, projects, and hopefully some publications.

This is where I'm confused.

People tell me Delhi has a huge advantage because of institutes like AIIMS, NII, THSTI, IIT Delhi, etc., where I might be able to find internships and exposure. On the other hand, Pantnagar has a much older biotechnology department, a strong research culture, and a well-established reputation.

So I wanted to ask people who have actually gone through this journey:

- Which college would you choose if your only goal was to get into research?

- Does being in Delhi make a significant difference during undergrad?

- Is Pantnagar's research ecosystem enough to build a strong profile for GATE/IISc or a PhD abroad?

- Looking back, what factors do you think matter the most for someone who wants to pursue research?

I'm currently scoring 307/500 in CUET UG (best of two) and around 370–390/720 in NEET 2026.

Right now I'm confused about which of these two scores gives me a better chance of securing a seat. More importantly, are either of these scores even competitive enough to realistically be considered?

Which exam score do you think I should enter in my application to maximize my chances of being shortlisted?
