Do you ever go through a short phase where your normally coffee-reliant lawyer ass runs out of all coffee, and then drinks tea for a few days instead? I have been doing that for a couple of days and find I am less jittery. As I dislike being jittery, I consider this a positive development.
Are there any welcoming (to newcomers) non-denominational churches in Henderson which have a good adult singles program?
A recent post got me thinking. Of all the hardcore MAGA folk I know, none of them are mentally healthy people.
K - K is a disabled man. He is bipolar, often goes off his meds. Divorced, estranged from a kid. Gets a check from the fed govt for his disability. Does side businesses which he never reports. Super Trumper, bigoted, homophobic, transphobic despite having a trans kid.
P - P is a man who is in his late 50s who is still, every single year, entering his first year of employment as a school teacher with a new school district. No school will ever ask him back for a second year. Is lazy. Flunked out of law school. Has mental issues.
S - S is a woman who is narcissistic. Settled a lawsuit, then blew all the money because she won't get a job. Thinks she is a guru. Makes a crappy living pretending to be a guru. Her daughter is unstable. She tries to practice law without a license. She files frivolous lawsuits. She is constantly angry. She thinks she is a legal genius. She is an anti-vax nut job and argues online about it with everyone. Has no medical background, yet purports to have diagnosed her own son with autism and tells everyone about her autistic son.
Does anyone know any MAGA folk who are mentally and emotionally healthy, and who aren't getting a government check for disability? I don't know of any.
I have in my life a gal I dated, for a brief amount of time, just over a decade ago. Back then, she was real new-age, not aligned with any political party. She was an anti-vaxxer but not completely nuts talking about nanobots and cell phone towers, etc. She had some kooky lawsuit she kept talking about filing over a piece of property she didn't own.
I don't know why, but every once in a while I will send her a legal article or case in the news, as a way of just saying hello and being friendly. It took a bad turn recently.
In the intervening years, she went from someone skeptical of politicians (healthy in my book) to a Trump-worshipping MAGA nut who believes ALL of the lame conspiracy theories which circulate in Trumpworld. Even the ones which contradict the other ones. It's crazy. (Edit: We're talking COvID 19 crap like nanobots in the vaccine, 5g towers, magnetic humans, Obama behind everything that happens, great re-set, Klaus Schwab babble, multiple theories about trans kids, you name it).
Well, I sent her an article about a case involving a foreclosure on a property in Michigan, and a recent SCOTUS decision on the matter, as she knew some foreclosure litigants back in the day. She responded with some garbage about "Obama' being behind all the bad stuff that happensd way back when. I questioned it. I made the comment that before saying something like that she should have some back up, that people like me don't like wild unsupported claims, and many others don't like them either. I think what set her off is my statement that being a Trumper can be bad for her credibility.
She sent me a berserk email saying I should respect her opinion. By disagreeing with her attempt to blame everything on Obama I was being, I guess, disrespectful. She had some convoluted reasoning about how she had won a court case back in 2012, which means I should always agree with her opinions because that would be respecting her intelligence.
I wrote back and while I won't belabor it further, basically told her she isn't making any sense, that I don't agree with her, that I don't owe her agreement, and that I would not be speaking with her further.
These people are nuts and exhausting.
I feel like my desires are tearing me in four different directions. As a senior lawyer, I want to perfect my craft as much as possible before I hang it up. But I also want to take a year off and hike the Pacific Coast Trail before I hit retirement age. I want to go down to a 4 day week. Part of me wants to be doing some kind of alternative life style (van life, remote working). Can I do this another 2 to 3 years, you bet I can. I may have to for financial reasons. But long term, there's other ideas creeping in. Anyone else feel this way?
if so, how did it go? Did you have any audio or video glitches? Have you done this regularly? I am quite curious as I may use this for a solution for a couple of months. Thanks!
I have a bunch of old cans and bottles. Where is a good place in the desert to go and shoot at 'em? I'm gonna be in that area shortly.
I hear the REI stuff is sometimes not light enough. I am looking to do the PCT. What recommendations do you have for brands and tents to look at?
What are the best ways to handle that one friend who always wants to pick your legal brain on a Saturday night, when the last thing you want to do is go into lawyer mode and reason with someone who has had a few beers and has no idea how the law works?
Without going into unnecessary personal details about why my parents engaged in bad parenting, let's just say that they did. And one of the effects of that is I put up with bullshit, with people who are users and opportunists and just bad friends, when I shouldn't.
I am now in middle age and I am finding that most of the people I have been treating like good friends are seriously defective as friends. And so I am greatly limiting my exposure to them.
Here's an interaction. One person who is a nut is a "friend" who had several personal meltdowns and lost his career. To my knowledge, he lost contact with all his family and children after episode 4 and 5 of drug-fueled shenanigans. He told me I am the only friend he has from "before" who still talks to him.
This same guy told me he wanted me to go out and buy a three wheeled motorcycle thing which costs anywhere from 25k to 45k. And he used these words: "I want you to buy it so I can ride it." Now I am not a rich person. I didn't comment on his request other than to say "no." But who in their right mind would say that to someone? I don't owe this person anything.
I need new friends. Real ones.
So I have yet another friend, or possibly former friend, who I am no longer going to regularly associate with because of his Trumper bullshit. He is a piece of work even without Trumper nonsense going on. He used to have a professional credential which he lost due to several instances of melting his life down with drugs and criminal consequences.
But lately, he's saying things that are just too stupid to want to be around. Like that RFK Jr. is "bad ass" for his dumbass snake-handling video. I told him I thought that was demonstrated stupidity, not bad ass. His response was that I probably still wear a mask.
Mind you, I'm not a safety nut. I do many somewhat risky things, I hike, I mountain bike, I ski. I'm not afraid of my own shadow. But handling snakes is idiotic.
And you know what, if I saw a person wearing a mask today, I think good for them! That probably means they have an immune deficiency, and have the intestinal fortitude to put up with all the ignorant Trumper bullshit they will encounter. So good for them!
I've never been a big fan of the mask bullshit. Masks help dammit. They just do. Particles don't get spread as far when people wear masks. I have lasting health consequences from COVID 19 and all the BS that RFK Jr has spewed, and ignorant Trumpers spew, are offensive to me. I'm not going to willingly be around it any longer.
I don't have him blocked, but I don't think I'm going to be over-eager to engage either.

The directions with the glasses are in micro font and are incomplete
Everything depends on a blue light which doesn't exist.
No one says clearly where the blue light is supposed to be.
Is this their idea of a good consumer product?
Where can I go to get this set up and working?
Sorry for the obnoxious question, but seriously...I spent like $300 on a pair of overly large Wayfarers. Now where can I wear them? Maybe while riding a bike? What's the point? Does everyone just automatically get offended when they realize they've got a camera in their face?
Years ago I did different kinds of cases. One particular kind of case involved people who were almost always dishonest, who thought they knew the law from reading Facebook, and who were simultaneously broke and yet loved to waste their lawyer's time, in addition to being unappreciative if you didn't perform magic tricks. It was un underserved area of law where good lawyers were needed, but when one got involved, they would not appreciate it in the slightest because they read some bs on Facebook, yada yada yada.
I moved on, intentionally. But later came to realize that dealing with those types left me traumatized. Never diagnosed. But definitely traumatized.
Has anyone else ever experienced this?
I have heard others say if you're buying new, buy at the end of the riding season. Well, in most place, the riding season is spring through early fall. But in Vegas, it gets super hot during the summer, and I imagine a lot of folks stop riding. Is there a different "end to the riding season" in hot desert areas like Phoenix or Vegas? For purposes of negotiating a better deal I mean...
I went bike shopping. Here's what I found. I can get a 4 year old Softail Slim for $16k. Or, I can get a freaking USED Heritage, one year old, for $20,000.
Why would anyone in their right mind do this? When I can buy a new Street Bob with laced wheels and all for $17k and change. And a new Heritage for just about $1k more? Why, I ask you, why?
Is it that these aren't real prices, and the dealer will cave to a greater degree when negotiating on used bikes? Or is that the market for used Harleys is so strong that buying a used bike costs the same as a new one, as long as it isn;t something ancient and beat up?
And I think I really want the Street Glide. Possibly even the Street Glide Limited with the Tour Pack and Lower Fairings.
But is it too much bike for someone returning to the hobby after 20 years? I will take a riding course or two.
I mean,, I am really disappoint. I was expecting some little men with antennae and metallic Star Trek suits, and maybe some hot female aliens with green knockers. Instead, more blurry photos of party balloons. Kash Patel, why have you forsake us!?????
