Salam.

I'm a 30yr old woman and am writing this post to warn younger folks, especially those who live in the West of what your life could turn out to be if you don't act fast.

Im the oldest child from a broken home (father ran off). I worked like crazy in my entire 20s to save for my mom and siblings and am now on path to early retirement.

My parents never let me have friends and I didn't speak to boys, even though I went to a regular highschool and university. COVID caused me to start remote work and I never met men at work either. My parents didn't know anyone and our household reputation is ruined.

My friends chatted with boys, some halal way some not, but now most are married or got arranged from their social circles and have kids and happy lives.

I got left behind because I put my head down and focused on getting out of poverty. I focused on school, on work, on being there for everyone. But no one bothered to check if I could also need someone. Actually since I barely leave my house, barely anyone knows I even exist.

To young people. Don't fall into Haram but don't isolate yourself so much that you will be left behind. Today I may appear to others as a successful woman. I have money to buy anything at anytime but nobody to support me, less and less chance of having kids, and constantly taunted and pitied by family and others for being old and unwanted.

Please marry young. You will be rewarded with rizq if you are sincere towards your family. In shaa ALLAH.

AlhamduLillah for everything and please make Dua for me and all those who are looking for spouses.

Edit: May ALLAH swt forgive our shortcomings and guide us to the straight path. The girls down here being sarcastic, mean, or saying I'm a man fear mongering, to you I hope you are never in the position I am. I have no reason to lie and just want to help younger sisters as a possibility of what could happen if you follow my path. No amount of financial independence can spawn a baby out of thin air, a loving hug from a partner, or make your mom happy to see your little family.

Career transition out of CS/Tech. Anyone tried this?

Hi everyone,

I have about 7 years of work experience in the tech industry (non-SDE SWE) and have amassed enough money to feel chill about finances. I am not in the US so unfortunately my TC is not that high to impress y'all. However, I can probably retire now in a developing country or in a small town where I live.

I am noticing the increasing push of AI down our throats everyday at work coupled with no longer feeling excited about my work. Thinking of transitioning out to finance or become a pilot (I know, maybe crazy...), still earn at least $100k until I decide to stop working.

Anyone who has pursued a career transition in 30s share what it has been like, to which industry or field, and would you recommend it?

Please note, I spent my entire 20s grinding to get where I'm at and just never got to enjoy life or pursue my own interests which is why I'm also having an existential crisis.

You are the problem. You are the loser. You are the extremist.

I've heard variations of these statements from people and indirect jabs when I bring up avoiding riba, BDS, or even wearing hijab.

I want to urge anyone that follows their whims and desires that not only do you ruin your akhirah but you are making life difficult for the rest of us who live in the west because those who follow the true and everlasting word are branded as outliers and extremists.

My parents friends bought homes with riba prior to the market boom are now retired, helped their kids, go on vacations, etc while my parents rented their whole life, still working going into old age with no savings, and then will rely on us kids for support. None of my siblings or myself will be able to buy anything in the city we grew up in, none of us even got married because guys and girls these days are so used to high interest savings accounts, financing cars, planning their mortgage amount, investing in haram businesses, etc that they look at you like you're crazy if you don't adhere to this.

It would have been so much easier to bear if there were more muslims who weathered the temptations. Instead we are amongst the few seen as the loser family example.

As much as I am angry at the current financial and monetary scam that has robbed the non-asset owner generations for for over 10 decades now, I also blame my "muslim" brothers and sisters for actively participating in this by using fatwas and ignorance.

AlhamduLillah I noticed my family situation early on and worked as hard as I could. I'm now planning my exit from the west and take my parents to another country. I will give them a big home and comfort in a halal way, even if it meant we were the losers who couldn't attain the "American/Canadian/Australian/British" dream.

Robbed of my youth

Hi everyone,

Glad to find this community and read about experiences with AP's.

About to turn 30, no friends, no partner, no social life.

Wanted to share my story that got me here.

  1. Eldest.

  2. Poor. Surprised to read some of y'all are getting their tuition paid, cars bought, etc. I got nothing besides basic food and clothes. Won't get a penny in inheritance, they didn't even save for retirement.

  3. Broken household. Father ran off with another woman after multiple decades of marriage leaving mom blindsided. Leading up to this was so much fighting and bad language that all us kids have anxiety and trauma.

  4. Low trust, suppressive, and deliberately sabotaging growth years. Would follow me after school, was not allowed to meet friends or visit, did not enroll us in any extracurriculars. My other siblings are shutin, play video games and rot on their devices whole day.

Only saving grace. Because our parents, like many of yours obsess over career and education, all us siblings have decent jobs and good savings. In fact I feared that I would end up like them and I worked my butt off and am on path to FIRE!

However, all this money will not bring back the normal childhood and young adulthood I could have had. I see other people my age have already gotten married, have kids, a social life etc whilst I heard my father telling others I was an expired woman when I was 25.

Such is life. I hope someday, we are able to be at peace and get over what was taken from us.

Watching from the sidelines

Salam everybody, hope you are you in good health and sustenance.

This is kind of a rant but does anybody else feel like they are just watching from the sidelines the world get wealthy, move forward, etc. whilst we are avoiding haram?

Sometimes it really feels like the "holding on to coals" hadith, iykyk.

I don't invest in any US stocks due to my personal boycott, as much as possible, in a nation that has plundered the lands of our brothers and sisters around the world and many other horrible atrocities, too many to list here. The country I live in, has one of the worst economies in the G7, no growth, and even negative returns on some stocks.

I have been sitting on high 6figure savings that is eroding to inflation. I pay 40%+ tax on my income, zakat.

AlhamduLillah I make rent, eat well, and can buy anything I want.

However, I feel so defeated knowing that I could have invested in US stocks, or options trading, and turned that money to multiple millions. Please provide some assurance or knock some sense into me. Please don't suggest gold, I missed that train because I wanted to keep liquid money to buy a home, which also didn't work out.

Warning: Life Science degree is not equal to basket weaving

Basket weaving is actually a handy skill and can get you employment in arts, crafts, and dexterity related work.

I wanted to make this post specifically to share my experience with the Life Sci/Bio/Health Studies program which was undeniably the worst mistake of my life.

Whoever needs to hear this, the chance of you getting into med, pharm, or dental school in Canada is about 1%-3%.

I work in a completely unrelated field now and with 7 figures in savings at a young age, on track to early retirement.

But before this, I was almost sui*idal. I had spent thousands on this useless degree and could not even land a clinical or research assistant position upon graduation let alone get into medicine. My friends who had studied CS, business, etc were working good jobs and had actual career paths.

I believe you all are talented and smart, don't waste your time and money here. If you want to pursue a career in medicine, pharmacy, etc go to another country.

UofT sells this name of prestige but it means nothing globally outside of the few good programs like EngSci, CS, etc. even their med and bio research is lacking now.

DO NOT ENROLL IN LIFE SCIENCES and warn others.
