Just finished restoration

This was started during Covid. Got side tracked a few times. But is finally done. I’ve owned this truck for over 40 years. Over this time I swapped the carb motor for a fuel injection Mustang GT motor. Modified the trans with a lower first and second gear and after the cosmetics were done put in a limited slip diff. Blue paint is a little darker and the white has a little metallic in it.

Finnish progress

I have been working on the varnish finish for several weeks now. It has 4 coat of epoxy and 12 coats of two part Epifanes varnish. Yesterday I sanded coat 11 smooth. I am using the roll and tip method to apply the finish. But yesterday I used a different roller and a different “brush” to tip it smooth. I have been using a foam type roller all along. The one I used yesterday was a 6 inch small diameter from Home Depot. That didn’t make much difference. The big difference came with the tipping step. I took a very short nap 12 inch roller and cut it into 1/4s. This gave me almost no brush marks and an almost smooth finish. Today I am going to put one more coat on then let it cure for a couple of weeks before I wet sand and polish.

Personal on board the Missouri at time of signing The surrender with Japan

My father heard when he was much younger that his father was on board the Missouri for the signing with Japan. We do know he spent most of the war in the Pacific Theatre and was an officer in the Marines at the time. He was assigned to the Pentagon after the war but passed away shortly thereafter. My father also was stationed on the Missouri after the war . It would be a nice connection for my father if we could connect the two. Does anyone know if there is a record of the personnel on the ship that day?
