Favorite client no longer needing my services

We got a client earlier this month that quickly rose to top 3, possibly top dog of all time. Today, her owner lost her job and texted she won’t need us anymore as a result.

I was already emotional today for unrelated reasons and if this ain’t just the dang cherry on top. 😂😭💔

You ever have those dogs that you lowkey hope the owner will one day say, “I realized it’s not a good fit, want to keep him/her?” This was that dog for me. Didn’t help that the owner would say she’s not sure the dog is happy at her house like she is at mine; I was always thinking to myself, “You could just leave her with meeee” 😂

She reminds me in a lot of ways like my late soul dog, and she and I bonded almost immediately, too.

Anyway. Share your sad stories and commiserate with me 😭

I want to get started as a groomer, but…

I love dogs. I have been a dogsitter/boarder for almost a decade, I’ve volunteered at the shelter, and I have a basic training certificate for dog training. I watch dog grooming and agility videos for fun. My life is dogs!

Many of my clients have asked if I offer grooming. There is a shortage everywhere, and my area is no exception. I would honestly love to take this on. My goal is to specialize in small dogs since my clients with the small dogs seem to struggle the most, and I have a sensitive back, so a lower weight class is very doable for me to handle.

After looking at ways to start, I decided doing petsmart’s program looked the best, especially in its current form. I applied, but never heard back, and I’m not even surprised because my schedule is so limited. As a full time mom and with my drop-in clients, I can only do evenings and weekends. No company wants to hire someone with that limited availability.

So where should I go from here?

Terrified of leaving for a week

I’m lying awake right now because of a trip in over a month.

We have one child. We have two in heaven that never made it earthside. I’ve always been terrified of losing my child, but especially since those two losses. My baby (toddler) is my world.

Husband and I are celebrating our fifth anniversary in a month and a half. We are going out of state for a week. It’s long overdue; we took trips like this somewhat regularly before baby, and I used to travel a lot before marriage. We need this time alone and away. It’s a milestone moment.

However, I’m so scared of leaving our toddler behind. I’m spiraling. We are leaving toddler with people we trust, and they have been babysitters in the past (even for an overnight), but this is longer.

- they’ve given us no reason to think there would be s*xual assault but I know it’s almost always the people you trust who turn around and do it in the end, and so I start to spiral and think, do I really know these people?
- Toddler is in a rebellious phase. They’ll run into potential danger sometimes. I’m so so scared of a horrible accident, like running into traffic.
- Lastly, I’m so scared of just… a drunk driver hitting them while they’re out and about, something totally random that no one could foresee, and we’re hundreds of miles away.

How do you prepare for these things, and how do you cope with the anxiety? It’s ruining my excitement for the trip. 😣

Would you cancel/block?

A few months ago, I got a late night request from someone urgently needing a sitter in the morning for a week. I stayed up, messaged back and forth to get info on the dog, got up to the point of confirming, and they disappeared. Next morning, they said their flight was cancelled but they’d reach out to me if they needed me again.

Back in that boat. She called my rover number about an hour ago, asking for overnight boarding with drop off in less than 3 hours. I said that’s fine and set up the booking in the app.

She’s having a lot of trouble confirming. “I can’t find where to confirm, I can’t see your message in the app or the browser, I didn’t get an email to confirm…” I tried directing her to her archived messages since that’s where the text thread was. Crickets.

All that said, she said she’s a grandmother (but sounds very young?), so I’m trying to be gracious as I’ve dealt with a lot of older folks having trouble navigate the app.

I’m considering blocking her if this doesn’t work out. Is that overreacting? Haha. She genuinely makes me worry she would be later and later to pick up her dog until it became a free additional night lol.

Could there be a legitimate reason she’s having trouble finding my message? I’m unfamiliar with the owner side of the app and how it works.

Security deposit and broken glass

I’m very new to Reddit and this is my first time with this sub, so forgive me if I’m missing the point/purpose.

We live in a duplex and rent the other half. We have always done our best to be generous “landlords” — more like neighbors who sublease. We charge lower than market value rent but what we can still profit from, we do repairs asap, we even give free rent for December for Christmas if we can swing it because we know the people who live with us well enough to know their hopes and dreams for homes of their own someday.

Recently, this paid off for our tenant. They just moved into their first home. We couldn’t be happier for them!

We have tons of wear and tear repairs around the home, probably at least a couple thousands’ worth, but since it’s technically wear and tear, we weren’t going to withhold the deposit. However, during moving out, a window was bumped and broken. This is obviously outside the realm of wear and tear.

The tenant seems quietly pissed at us about this and is pressing us for how much they’ll get back. I explained that (like every other repair we’ve done over the years, so they should know), it takes time to get quotes and contractors are never great at communicating. I honestly don’t think it’ll be the whole of the security deposit.

There may be details I’m missing so feel free to ask. Trying to condense and remain vague.

Is this out of line for us to withhold the deposit until the window is fixed? Is the tenant justified in their frustration? This is a first for us, and we want to handle it well. We really bonded with these neighbors and want to stay in touch, and we’ve never had to consider withholding a deposit before.

Brown spotting week after short period

Hi,

I had a miscarriage in spring. I bled for about two months and then finally it ended. I have had two seemingly normal cycles since.

I just had my period last week. It was shortish (3 days), but then stopped. However, this past Friday or Saturday, I started having regular brown spotting with noticeable clear discharge. I tested for ovulation and pregnancy yesterday and both were negative.

What is going on? Has anyone experienced this? Is this still residual effects from my miscarriage?

I have contacted my OB but am waiting to hear back, and then have to wait for the appointment, etc.

I just want to eat today

I’ve been doing intermittent fasting as my approach to a calorie deficit for a couple months and have seen quick results. But today I’m tired, I’m craving sugars and carbs, and I’m also melancholy on top of it. There’s a part of my brain convincing me this is a waste of time, too, and I’ll just gain all the weight back because our lives are inconsistent and difficult and I know this season where I’m actually able to do this is temporary.

Idk. Encouragement? Permission for a cheat day? Not sure what I’m looking for. Maybe this is just a vent.

I just f*cking love my ducks so much

They’re just such a source of simple happiness. Their excitement for fresh water, their funny little group march around the yard to forage for bugs, their frantic, 9-months-pregnant waddle-run to me when I bring a bag of greens. Their random loud quacks announcing their presence to the world for no reason and their little coo-quacks when they’re happy. The way they tip their heads to the sky when they hear a plane. They’re just chaotic good little beings living unapologetically in my backyard.

That’s it that’s the post 🦆🥰

Received thinly veiled threats from local business. I feel like I need to do more. AIO?

This all happened yesterday but the story starts a few months ago. I’m going to be vague about details for reasons that will be obvious.

My spouse and I were looking to hire someone locally to help complete a project. We called several folks for quotes. Two of them ghosted us for reasons unknown, maybe because the job was a small one? I waited about two months with follow ups. I found these businesses based on reviews, so I felt it was appropriate to write my own review. (I am trying to be so vague, but rest assured we were polite, patient, and understanding about things maybe falling through the cracks.)

One business responded professionally publicly, but still didn’t follow up. Whatever.

The second business immediately called me. To be fair, the review here was a little different in that I included clear evidence of ghosting. However, I merely expressed disappointment and was not at all aggressive in my tone. My goal was to share an honest experience in case someone else got involved with them based on their perfect record.

Anyway, I couldn’t answer the phone at that moment and I wanted to wait and see what the tone was in the voicemail. Glad I did, because it was aggressive. The owner claimed they tried to contact me numerous times and accused me of lying. They also said we could “handle this like adults” instead of me trying to “ruin their business” and they were still willing to do the job for me if I called back (like I would want to work with them at that point).

My spouse and I double checked and have no records of any calls or texts.

Like most folks, I don’t enjoy conflict and also found responding unnecessary, so I did not return the call. The exchange was over, from my perspective.

Not from theirs. They replied to my review and edited it about once an hour, with the tone going from angry to pseudo-professionalism to straight unhinged.

Finally, at about the four hour mark, they called me again and left a voicemail claiming my evidence was fabricated (I legitimately don’t even know how to make a photoshopped thing like that). And then the threats:

- They claimed to have found where I worked and said they would get a large group of people to leave negative reviews there, mentioning my name.
- They said, “You don’t want to mess with my business. Anything is possible.”

At that point, my spouse had enough and called them. Spouse tried to be reasonable, maintained a calm tone, and even said that maybe there was a technological issue where their calls didn’t come through (although happening to two separate phones is unlikely). The business owner dug in their heels and repeated the threat to review-bomb my supposed place of work.

Spouse decided it was worth calling the cops, and I agreed. They knew where we lived. We have vulnerable people living here. We cannot play around.

We filed a report. We didn’t take any further action other than putting it on the police’s radar, and the cop said he would reach out just to let the business know that threats are not allowed and this is probably not a good way for a business to conduct themselves.

WHILE THE COP WAS WITH US, the business owner update the review again and sent us a ChatGPT legal notice of a defamation lawsuit if we did not remove the review (lol, as if there was any case there — they were getting themselves into that territory though with their threats of review bombing).

With the support of the cop, we elected to remove the review simply to pacify them and hopefully prevent any stalking or violent behavior. I have family spending the day at our home to keep watch.

However, all of this made me feel I need to do more, but discreetly. What if this is how they have a perfect review score? This person is clearly unstable and I genuinely believe could be capable of more, what with their knowledge of personal homes and their claims they have a large community ready to come to arms for them. This is not a person I want anyone else to fall victim to.

So, AIO in feeling the urge to do more? Or is this the end of the interaction and should I just let it go and move on?

I don’t know that it’s my battle to fight, mainly for the safety of the others in our home, but I can’t shake that something has to be done.

ETA: I tried to gloss over details for brevity and to avoid sharing too many revealing details, but we DID have several interactions, quotes, and promises of work. I genuinely believe our job was too small because they mentioned having big jobs lined up at our first meeting. We both expressed that’s fine and we understood and were okay with waiting. We gently followed up 2-3 times as we were waiting for a modified quote (which the business expressed they supported), and then there was a deliberate ghosting “action” (trying to be vague).
