Does putting a thermal pad on a SSD without a heat sink dissipate heat?

I was watching a Salem Techpects video, and I saw the guy put a thermal pad on his SSD without a heat sink, does this actually work?

Because I was thinking of doing it to my own SSD in my laptop but I don't have enough space for the heatsink so I was thinking about stacking 2 thermal pads to have it touch the SSD and the bottom case of the laptop

Tablet's internal power switch torn off, would it be possible to reattach it?

https://i.imgur.com/dNaXIGv.jpeg

between the sbf7940002b and sidekey, you can notice that one of the internal switches (I don't know what to call it) torn off

What would you recommend me to try to fix it?

edit: My tablet was off and I was able to turn it on by holding down the Volume Down button, plugging a power supply, and then using an external keyboard make my selection to turn on the tablet

Should I buy a Samsung A9+ or TCL TAB 8 NXTPAPER?

I plan to use the tablet for reading PDFs and manga.

Comparing the specs, Samsung beats TCL on everything with the exception that TCL has a eink mode which makes reading easier along with a matte finish. Also the TCL is a bit slimmer so I could hold it easier with one hand.

BS in Biology and Master in Public Health, what career options are out there?

I am having a hard time considering what jobs are out there, some options I was personally thinking about was PA, nursing, radiology tech, etc but these jobs are all patient care related.

What are some good healthcare job choices and some good non-healthcare job choices?

What are good careers to transition to if I am having difficulty finding a job?

Like do you have any recommendations related to degrees, certifications, etc.

I've considered nursing, PA, radiology tech, etc. but I really lack imagination when it comes to healthcare careers

People with multiple thinkpads, what do you do with all of them?

All of the thinkpads I ended up with I accidentally won on Ebay, like I didn't expect a low-bid to win. I also ended up selling nearly all of mine, thankfully for nearly the price I bought them for.

For me, the two laptops I kept, one is for keeping at home and the other is to bring on the go.

Why does my touchpad settings tab disappear?

I am currently using gnome with Fedora 44 on a Thinkpad E15 Gen 2 AMD, when I check the "Mouse & Touchpad" setting sometimes I am able to click on the seperate touchpad tab and other times it is disappeared.

edit: It literally reappears after I turned it back on from suspend mode. Also Thinkpad E15 Gen 2 AMD is really problematic from other issues and Reddit threads I have seen.

I am using Gnome on Fedora, I changed my Power Setting from Balanced to Power Saving then within 5 minutes my battery went from 50% to 5%.

What is the oldest hardware running desktop Linux that you use?

I am using a ThinkPad E540 (from 2013) running Ubuntu MATE, second is my Thinkpad E15G1 (from 2020). Believe it or not I think the keyboard on the E540 is better than the more recent Thinkpad keyboards.

Getting cold feet on a job offer

I was offered a job in another state, a 6 hour drive away from my family. I will be receiving 50,000.

Reasons to take the job: It is related to my degree therefore good experience for my career, it will allow me to move out in the real world, job market is currently terrible

Reasons to not take the job: It is requires me to drive to sick patients and possibly dangerous areas, I will have to use my own car, I will have to pay rent and utilities around 1,300/month, I do not see it as a long-term career, I will be by myself at an apartment complex

Other factors: My mother is trying me to not take the job since the compensation is low, I tend to be anxious and get cold feet often

If I don't take this job, I was thinking of boosting my personal life/resume trying to get into physician assistant school, which has a much better salary and job security.

Why does Fedora sometime fail to boot and goes to a Warning screen?

I have a dual boot PC and my Fedora drive is encrypted and on some rare occasion, I think it might be after I updated the system, I am unable to log into Fedora leaving me in a screen with:

"Warning: /dev/disk/by-uuid" (and other messages)

What is this and should I be concerned?

How much do you pay for apartment utilities?

I plan to move to New Orleans and want to stay below $1,200/month. I've called around to many apartments, and they have ranges for electricity, monthly internet costs, trash, etc. I noticed that I will be slightly higher than the $1,200/month preference.

Any advice or suggestions would be great!

How long have you had your Apple watch and what is it's battery health?

I have a series 7, I bought refurbished from Best Buy in mid-2023 and I am still surprised it's battery health is 100%.

Should I try out a job or go back to school for nursing?

I am in quite the difficult situation with deadlines closely approaching.

I have a BS in Biology and Master of Public Health (I never really got a chance to find a job using the degrees)

Situation 1: I have a job offer to work in another state and the position requires me to drive around the state and document the health of diseased patients

(On the top of my mind here are some pros and cons)

Pros: It is related to public health so it would make my degree seem useful, the pay is around 50k, I can move out of my parent's house and learn to be an adult

Cons: I am moving to New Orleans, which isn't super safe and is prone to floods which would ruin my car, I would be on my own and need to find a good apartment, the position requires me to drive a lot (I hate driving)

Situation 2, To go nursing school (Classes would start very soon!)

Pros: Nursing is always in demand and pays around 60k

Cons: I need to go back to school for 1.5-2 years, FAFSA only covered 3/4 of tuition, the nursing lifestyle doesn't sound great, I would also have to pay for driving/parking and other crazy necessities

There are minor pro and cons too but I didn't want the post for to go for too long. I am thinking to myself that which I would regret not doing more and I am leaning to WANTING to do the job more and not wanting to go back to school for nursing yet; however, nursing has good job security and what if the job doesn't work out for the long-term.

Also, I'm a bit stressed and depressed that my life didn't turn out the way I wanted it to.
