How does being vegan affect your dating life and relationships?

The dating pool gets reduced to a small fraction but it's more about choosing a person with similar set of moral beliefs as me. I've liked non-vegans before but tbh, whenever I mention my dietary preferences in front of such ppl, the way they act kinda gives me an ick. I guess I'd be more comfortable with a vegetarian or a fellow vegan in a long term relationship.

I wanna remain childfree in life but if I ever choose to have children, I'd want them to be vegan as well. It's not really possible if my partner doesn't agree to it or he has similar lifestyle.

I'd like to know everyone's opinions on it!

What's the weirdest reaction you've gotten when you told someone that you're vegan?

I remember I told this in a gc once. Gosh, they started complaining abt how I wanna date a guy in the country I was living in without eating meat or cooking it for my partner as if there aren't plenty vegans I could potentially date. The fact they reduced my personal preferences to being a perfect traditional wife who cooks, cleans etc. felt kinda misogynistic too.

Tbh, I wouldn't want to be with a guy who isn't even vegetarian (minimum requirement). I can't imagine myself sharing same kitchen or fridge with someone who cooks or keeps meat in it. Specifically because I come from a vegetarian family myself and meat is a foreign concept to me. It's not less than parts of a dead corpse in my perspective.

Dating a Syrian Christian guy, what are the things I must know? Is intercultural dating acceptable in Syrian households? Is it really hard to fit in?

For context, I'm a South Asian and we plan on marrying in few years! His parents don't know abt me yet but I doubt if they might have issues accepting me. He tells me not to worry abt it much so yeah its not a big concern, just a doubt.

Also, he doesn't live in Syria, but in France. He shifted there in middle school. But his family is still kinda conservative.

To the people who live in strasbourg or visited it recently...

I met this dog with his disabled owner last summer infront of the strasbourg cathedral. He looked very exhausted and uninterested to even respond when i was petting him. I'm curious to know if he is still there. I was in a hurry so I couldn't get more information on him but it has been stuck in mind for long enough.

I can't socially fit in with non vegans specifically the ones who are intolerant abt my diet and joke abt inhumane stuff regarding animal suffering...

Don't downvote me lol cuz its just my personal experience, i would love it if u guys give me ur genuine opinions as well, its just a long rant.

For context, I grew up with mostly vegetarians around me in a country where significant fraction of population practices vegetarianism due to religious and cultural beliefs.

I was one of them, i never ate meat in my life. In fact, i always felt super grossed out by the look of it. You won't generally see meat kept openly in supermarkets as well since many ppl are generally uncomfortable with that.

I never really understood the concept of eating dismembered body parts of a dead animal. Maybe i would've thought differently if i was born in a meat eating family. I didn't really judge anyone for their dietary choices.

As a kid, I used to think meat basically came from animals who died a natural death after living their life and ppl consume them maybe bcz of the taste or smth. The dairy? It was quite common so I never really questioned it. Apparently, it doesn't come from a dead animal so yeah...

I never really knew the reality of dairy or meat industry till 1.5 years ago and discovering it was tragic. I feel depressed all the time remembering the footages I came across. Sometimes, I even get nightmares. Ts messed up my mental health so bad. I genuinely can't experience long term happiness in anything anymore.

I've always loved animals sm that even seeing random strays suffering would make me tear up and cry for hours. I've also helped many injured strays and my family feeds them daily.

After knowing all this, whenever I come across ppl who are so insensitive that they make jokes on animals or attack veganism, the ideology that advocates for reducing harm towards animals, I can't feel anything but extreme sadness. I cut them off completely. I can't keep such people in my friend group.

At times, I've liked guys but after knowing their thoughts on animals, I can't imagine a future with them. Our moral values don't really align with each other so no point in being together.

I've known some really good people out there, at least kind when it comes to other humans but disgustingly brutal when it comes to talking about suffering animals.

One such friend, I just removed him from all my socials lol, he was describing in a gc how he went to a butcher and saw a goat being slaughtered. He explained in detail how pleasurable it was for him to see him being skinned alive. I felt super disgusted. I even called him out. How are these ppl even real atp? Like seriously?

The lack of empathy these ppl have make it harder for me to even be long term friends with them. Oh yes, alotta them even point out how i'm missing out cuz i choose not to eat meat or dairy lol. They joke abt these stuff so casually, it gives me an ick. I have zero respect or tolerance for them.

The least one can do is not joke abt the animal that died for their diet. The way they view these animals as commodities instead of individuals who are capable of feeling pain and fear is smth that makes me feel horrified. Same ppl who talk against using animals for source of entertainment btw.

The hypocrisy is so deeply rooted in the society, it sucks.
Do you guys feel the same? Or am I just overthinking too much? Is it normal to feel this way?

Do you think if there are any reasons in which eating meat is justifiable? Is there anything such as "humane killing" or "ethical meat"?

I'm curious to know everyone's takes on this.
I've been vegetarian all my life and recently became vegan. No turning back fs.

Are you guys there in any vegan instagram or reddit gc?

I see many of us feel lonely as a sole vegan in our surroundings and have stuff to vent about. If none of us is already in such existing gc, would you guys like to join one?

It's a good initiative to create a vegan space and connect with more such people from all over the world. I haven't had many vegan friends too since most people around me have been vegetarian. I myself grew up as one for 17 years of my life. I shifted my diet to veganism recently.

Let me know about your thoughts!

To the people who are willing to make a change and become a vegan...

Remember,

Veganism recognises animals as individuals, not just as commodities, who are here to live a life free of human use & oppression.

Veganism rejects ALL forms of animal exploitation
that means no dairy, eggs, honey ,leather, wool, silk, fur.
No zoos, circuses, rodeos, bull fights and aquariums where animals are confined and tortured for entertainment.
Not riding on the backs of animals.

Veganism is not just about reducing harm — it's about recognising that animals are individuals deserving of respect and freedom, not resources to be used.

It's NOT about moral superiority
Veganism isn't about being "better" — it's about questioning systems that normalize using animals and choosing not to participate in them, thereby "doing better".

Food is just one part.

Veganism extends into lifestyle, choices, and values rooted in how we view and treat other animals. It calls for us to STOP using them when we simply have better alternatives available.

Don't let others lure you into the idea of choosing to ignore the reality, or turn a blind eye to the exploitation going on around the world.

But please, don't be too harsh on yourself, you can't change your entire diet and lifestyle in one go, it takes time. Or else the mental burnout will push you away from your aim.

Specifically, if you have deficiencies, make sure you don't overlook it and choose a plant based alternative or supplement to support yourself.

Your health matters. Transitioning isn't always easy but if you have WILL and CAUSE, you can do it!

"Violence isn't normal, empathy isn't extremism"

At the end, none of us is perfect, we are all trying to figure out how we can reduce our participation in unethical consumption and practices.

Don't let yourself be disheartened.

RESPECT ALL LIFE, END ANIMAL SLAVERY, END SPECIESISM, ADVOCATE FOR VOICELESS

The hardest part about being vegan isn't figuring out the right food and nutrition.

Yeah, that's true. Once you know what's going on in the animal world which has been completely normalised by the society and culture, it gets really hard to live in a world that continuously chooses to exploit animals when they have better alternatives available right in front of them.

It's debating people who call vegans "extremists" just for begging them to open their eyes and mind to the exploitation they continuously choose to fund out of their own hard earned money.

A world that calls "Violence" normal but "Empathy" extreme, justifying the moral blindspot that humans have been ignoring since ages.

Its watching people say how they love animals while eating their dismembered body parts in their food plates in same breath.

Seeing a calf torn from her mother just so we can steal her milk, the milk that was never ours to begin with.

Knowing the leather you once wore had a heartbeat, seeing an industry that thrives on exploitation of female animal bodies, the food choices that were once alive beings who probably had the worst possible life we can't even imagine.

I couldn't even imagine as a child how insanely disgusting this world would be. As children, we all grow up playing with toys that resemble happy cows, chickens, goats etc.

It gets tiresome explaining people that your love, kindness and compassion shouldn't be limited to just few species. The only difference between a dog and a cow is our own perception. Both are capable of feeling pain, fear, and distress.

Could we ever imagine that we are participating in exploitation of same animals we claim to love?

Is it really just a dietary choice if it includes cruelty, exploitation and continuous abuse of other species?

Once you become aware of the extent of cruelty, it's almost impossible to go back, ignorance is truly a bliss. Sometimes, living after knowing this harsh truth gets too brutal.

Feeling everything in a world that chooses to ignore the reality for their own pleasure and privilege feels burdensome.

The hardest part is living in a world where you are trying to explain that violence isn't normal, empathy isn't radical, advocating for animal liberation isn't extremism.

Speaking for the voiceless, oppressed species which is often ignored or downplayed by the society is a very important step!

Sometimes, I wish animals could speak our own language. So, the world could hear the way they scream for mercy.

I heard a quote which really struck my mind and soul which said, "If animals could create their own religion, humans will be the devil in it."

My apologies, if it was too long to even read. I was feeling really heavy. I needed to vent it out somewhere. I have been feeling really depressed lately.

In a world that chooses to be ignorant, kindly choose the moral path. You are not alone in this silent battle. I believe that one day, if not sooner, we will have a kinder world we all dream of.

The animals can't speak up for themselves, so we do.

Because silence protects the powerful and the hardest part about being vegan is refusing to stay silent in a world that continuously profits from it.
