After seeing a few posts recently regarding the solar expedition, I thought I’d dip my toes in the Timex solar pool.

I’d found this solar expedition on eBay for £25 originally but after buying it, the seller then withdrew it and refunded my money stating that it was ‘broken’!.

I then persuaded the seller that I was only interested in breaking it down into parts, he then sold it to me for £15! Bargain.

It arrived, screen was blank, put it under Coolfire solar watch charger for half a day……nothing. It was dead. I then decided to take the back off and have a poke around the inside.
It truly is something else inside. I’d seen an earlier post about someone replacing the battery and that looked ridiculously hard.

I then touched the AC reset with my tweezers and…..it came to life!. What in the name of!. Left it under the solar charger nearly all day. Fully charged and ready for action.

Alternatively, if you don’t fancy the complexities of this daft solar, you could try the Expedition T49993 which has the same functionality but less complex setting or any number of solar Casios for less the price of this one.

Everything works on the solar now that it’s fully charged. Stopwatch, countdown timer, world time, 3 alarms and an indiglo backlight.

By putting the module into a DW-291 case and adding the Hemsut hook and loop strap, the humble Royale is now an Expedition Royale. I also modified the inside to make the display flash.

Whilst watching 70s tv show Kolchak the night stalker, noticed that Carl Kolchak wears an electric Timex. Took a photo and googled it. Was very impressed by Google’s knowledge
