It has been a few months since I got my first work van

I posted here while I was planning to buy it and received lots of feedback regarding it. I went with the purchase and I am very happy that I did.

It’s ‘21 4.2 V6 Express 2500. I got it for 23.5k with 38k miles on it. Masterack ladder rack and shelves were already installed by the previous owner.

Working out of a van is 300% more efficient than out of a smaller vehicle. I do many lighting upgrades for businesses. Ability to transport 42 troffer fixtures or 8’ linear lights at once while carrying all my tools and 4 ladders (12.8,6 and 12’ Little Giant)is a game changer. It saves time and prevents stress of forgetting something.

Also, it makes me look more official when I roll onsite with some big companies.

Inside the van I keep everything clean and organised to not waste any space and to save time looking for things .

To personalise it for my needs, I added a towing hitch with a 4-pin connector, 15% window tint, Diode Dynamics LEDs for head lights, 2-way alarm w/remote start and a small table tray inside the cabin since I often eat while I drive.

Need some advice

I am a subcontractor that get work through a general contractor. I have many projects that I need help with.
I get pay per piece. Is it possible for me to hire people on w2 and pay them piece work? My understanding I still have to pay hourly minimum wage in WA state and other payroll taxes (~20%?). So how can piece work rate can be combined with minimum wage?
I plan finding a local tax professional near and get a consultation, I am just testing waters here. Thanks

Those of you who bought a new C8, what’s your annual income?

I am debating with my wife whether I could afford a 100k toy. We already own 4 vehicles that cost that much combined. I currently make around 250k but while supporting a family of six not much left to dispose.

Which boat are you on? Did you stretch your finances to buy your dream car or was it just pocket change to you and just one in your collection?

What is a chance of getting a new GS next year under msrp?

Basically this. I wanna get a new Grand Sport 1LT convertible . Everything standard except red callipers to match red leather. Total comes to 96k. I plan making a purchase next year. I hear that winter months can yield better discounts. For context, I am located near Seattle. Do you think I have a chance negotiating one below msrp, or this model is too new to expect any wiggle in price unlike the outgoing 6.2 stingrays?

Electrician here, they want me to replace these lights, I don’t think it is safe to get near those lines in a boom lift basket

Found a buried splice….solved

While adding a new homerun for a microwave, I was deciding whether to land the existing hood fan cable to the microwave outlet box to safe off there or to remove entirely. Brief digging in the wall revealed some handyman special. Continuity tested to the near receptacles , it rang positive to jump from the bedroom receptacle on other side of the wall. This house is a safer place to live now. Easy peasy.

Pulling a permit

I am a one man shop in PNW staying busy as a sub doing small commercial projects. One electrician that I know and fairly trust asking me to pull a permit for one of his side jobs in exchange for a small fee. I never done this for anyone before.

Should I do him this favour? What is legal stance on this and what are the risks involved? Is there anyway to do it in a proper way?

Ordered my first Cuban chain

Picture of me wearing 24” ~2.5mm titanium chain.

After doing some research I ordered my first Cuban 14k 7mm 24” ~92g infinity link from DJI. I kinda wanted 18k but I couldn’t afford it.

I specifically went for 24” to be able to get it over my head avoiding the need for a lock. I am concerned with snugging box lock on clothes and weakening of the mechanism over time. Probably not a real issue just overthinking on my part. If I were to get a lock, I probably would have gotten a 22”, perhaps 8mm.

Just wanted to confirm if I made a good choice. I know with infinity link I lost the ability to fit pendants but I don’t really plan on it.

And if I ever change my mind, I would likely get a custom made one with a clasp lock on the pendant itself. Have anyone done this? What would be an appropriate weight pendant for that chain?

Would be interested to hear your thoughts and opinions.

Unexpected find

Today I was replacing some wall pack lights and after taking reflector from one that had a missing lens, I found a birds nest behind it with at least three little birdies nesting there. Their momma sat on a tree branch above and was chirping. I carefully put the reflector in place and screwed it back using a hand screwdriver instead of the impact that I used to remove it.
As soon as I closed it and stepped away with my ladder, the momma bird immediately flew inside the fixture and tended to her babies.
I told the maintenance guy that I am skipping the particular light and will be back in a few weeks to finish.

2021 Express 2500 rear view mirror question

Hi all.

The cargo van has no rear windows so the rear view mirror is useless. Also, the back up camera screen is small.

Are there bigger screen products that could use the stock wiring at the mirror to connect to the existing back up camera. It would be nice to have it on all the time while driving forward , or at least have it on when going in reverse as the original.

Thanks.

The van has no rear windows so mirror part is useless. Also, it’s digital screen is also very small. Are there any screen products that can replace the stock mirror utilizing the existing wiring from the existing back up camera?

Thanks in advance.
