Any tips for dealing with leaking joint?

Joint connecting the outside of our basement foundation wall to stairs/bulkhead door starting leaking like crazy in a big storm last night. It’s filled with some kind of sealant already. AI recommends cutting out existing sealant then adding breaker rod followed by Sika 2c. I don’t have experience with breaker rod but it doesn’t look like there’s enough space for that, was just going to cut and reseal Sika and hope for the best I suppose

Bolted this baby down

I know most people don’t bother bolting these 6-post racks down. But man, I’m really happy I did. Plate storage only goes so far when all of your 45s are on the bar.

1/2” x 4” strong ties, this thing feels like it’s part of the foundation now.

Is this an okay amount of tilt?

I know the unit is supposed to be tilted downward but this seems a bit much. Unfortunately the next setting up is level

Decent Gorilla Mind Prime Day pricing

Been wanting to try it for a while but I’ve never seen it in local stores. $25 for a 12 pack sounds not bad. Debating between BCV, strawberry candy, and white gummy bear

Experiences bolting power racks down?

Considering bolting my 6-post PR5000 down. It’s on rubber flooring on top of an epoxied concrete basement floor. Has weight horns on the back too.

Anyone here bolt their rack down? Did you notice it gave significant increased stability? Or was it inconsequential?

Is it worth it to file a claim for a $1500 payout?

Well pump that was only 4 years old shit the bed the other day. Guy replacing it says it looks like it got hit by lightning and we should file an insurance claim. Cost $4k to replace and our deductible is $2500, so we’d be getting $1500, assuming the claim is granted.

Do small claims typically cause notable increases in insurance premiums? I’m generally of the mindset that insurance is there to be used, and $1500 is worth filing a claim over, but I could see there’s an argument to be made that even a moderate increase in premiums extrapolated to 40+ years of homeownership could be much more than $1500.

Is it normal for one of the PR5000 posts to “float” like this?

Tried loosening and tightening all of the nearby bolts to no avail. This left post seems to “float” a bit no matter what I’ve tried. See it contrasted to the one on the right that feels sturdy.

Not sure what else to do besides put it all back together again. I messed up by building the 4 posts first and then adding the back posts on while it was standing, so maybe that contributed to the unevenness?

Update: it took me taking the rack apart to realize that, indeed, my floor is uneven. But it’s not that this part is lower, rather the area under the middle post is elevated, and it wasn’t noticeable on the back side of the rack because I store plates on it. I should have an easier time shimming it with the bolts still loose and weight off of it. Printed a massive 15 mm shim which does help, albeit it’s still not perfect. Planning to just bolt it to the ground to get the most stability.

Sell me on mini splits

2.2k sqft home, New England, moved in last August. Last summer we got by on a single head mini split unit (in a suboptimal location) and a couple of window units, all left from the previous owners. That single head mini split unit is no longer getting cold (yes I cleaned the filters). It’s 15+ years old so I doubt it is worth it to get professionally repaired.

House is on oil baseboard heat, which honestly wasn’t terribly expensive even with this past brutal winter, but oil certainly isn’t $3.10/gal anymore.

Currently debating whether or not to replace that unit with a 3 or 4 head mini split with a pro install (something like a Mitsubishi hyper heat), or just adding a couple extra window units. I assume I’m looking at $15k+ for a 4-head unit install vs a few hundred bucks on a couple extra window units.

Is the added energy efficiency enough to justify the expense? The fed tax credit is gone, I’d maybe be getting $2k back from my state incentives but it’s still a considerable expense. And at the end of the day I’d still probably need to supplement the 4 heads with window units/oil heat as well, as they’re not going to hit every room. No duct work in the home and I assume that route is significantly more expensive.

Ryobi automotive power washer dead after one use?

Worked great for one car wash and now the motor just won’t turn on. Hard to tell in the video but the on light is green. Tried multiple outlets and multiple hoses, nothing. Still within the return window but I got it on sale at Home Depot so I’m not sure they’ll do an exchange

Moving gutter downspout

The current location of this downspout makes no sense to me, it dumps water in the middle of the house, in a flat area. At best, it kills grass (already bad drainage given the sceptic is right there), and at worst, it enters my basement along this wall.

The other side, however, can easily be routed away from the house to an area that is sloped outward.

Can I swap the location of this downspout myself? I’d have to switch the slope of this gutter, plug the existing downspout, and cut a new one on the right side. Gutters are aluminum.

I don’t think it’s possible to dig a run underground using the existing downspout given the basement hatch is blocking it

DCF892 torque question

Recently got a DCF892. For torqueing bolts that call for ~80 ft lbs (mower blades, car tires) presumably I’d use the 1st speed setting (capped at 100 ft lbs), correct? And do you sit on it a bit? I assume it’s better to slightly over torque than under torque?

At a loss- green to this in 2 weeks

Sprayed propiconazole 5 days ago when I started noticing it and it’s only gotten worse. It’s all over my front yard now, worse by the day. Gotta be fungus, right? Any tips? I’m heartbroken

Edit: thanks all for the advice. Adding that I haven’t started watering at all yet, but we did get a solid 1”+ of rain this past weekend. My current plan is to apply a light dose of urea, say 0.25-0.5 N lb/1000 sqft, this weekend alongside some azoxy. From what I’ve read, it’s likely too soon to see benefits from the propicon I put down, but I’m still concerned given how much it’s spread over the last few days (likely thanks to the cool and rainy conditions).

Minimum boiler temp in the summer for hot water?

So I’ve noticed in the summer our hot water in the shower is sometimes (but not all the time) not quite as hot as it should be. Setup is an indirect hot water heater with an oil boiler. Hot water heater is set to 135 F and when the water is hot, it’s plenty hot.

Well, I see that our boiler is getting down to as low as 110 F, since our heat isn’t on. It has a minimum temp setting; the previous owners set it as low as possible and I haven’t touched it. Even still, we spent a solid $400 or so last summer on oil hot water alone.

Should I bump this minimum temp up to 140 or so? Concerned about how much oil consumption that’d add, but it’s pretty annoying to have a lukewarm shower- wife is not happy with it

Scag mower blade bolts won't budge

Factory installed blades, going at them from the bottom with a tool to hold the blade in place and a 12" breaker bar, full force and the bolt will not budge. Is this supposed to be doable by hand or is it time to just buy an impact wrench?

Leaky cove joint right where I want to put rubber flooring

Been in the home for a year, and the basement has been surprisingly dry. Well, I removed a massive storage rack that was bolted along this wall, and lo and behold the basement is not as dry as I thought. We have a sump, but I’m not sure what extent of interior drainage we have. Unfortunately, this is right where I’d like to put rubber flooring and a home gym.

Question is, is drain pipe along this wall into the sump the best/only real solution? Or is it worth trying cove joint sealant first? Outside this wall is a flat backyard that has our sceptic tank.

And if I did put rubber flooring down (12x10 section, not the whole floor) and this happened again, how boned am I?

3'x8' good enough for a deadlift platform?

Planning to build a deadlift platform with spare plywood. 3'x8' (or 4'x6') is simple with TSC stall mats: 1 4x6 3/4" stall mat for the bottom (cut in half and rotated to fit 3'x8'), 2 sheets plywood, then 2 x 3x4 1/2" for the top. But if I want to go to the more standard 4'x8', then I need to buy extra $85 in mats to cut. I feel like 3' would be enough depth unless I'm bouncing all over the place; hopefully not with this setup and with rubber-coated iron

Hot water heater scheduling

My indirect hot water heater (oil) clicks on at the same time every night- 10:30pm. I would assume it is to preheat hot water for showering, but I can’t find anywhere on it where I could adjust this timing. I see max temperature on the water heater but that’s about it. Any ideas? I’m not sure why else I would clearly hear my boiler click on at the same time every night

Rep equalizer urethane vs Giant rubber-coated plates

Building my first gym and plates are the last thing I need to order to get started. I know I want grip plates, and I think I've narrowed it down to these two.

Deep down, I know I want the equalizers, but I'm having a hard time justifying the price premium vs rubber-coated plates. Will be doing primarily SBD work (no oly). I have a competitive powerlifting background, but don't plan to be going super hard. I expect to order at least another 45 pair in the future.

(I assume) urethane strikes a happy medium between rubber and iron. Not as bouncy as rubber on a not-so-gentle deadlift descent, but also not as harsh or loud as iron. But is it fair to assume these will hold up better and outlast the Giants? Like last a lifetime basically? Because it's a little hard to justify paying 65% more for them... but they do look so nice....

Matts vs rolled rubber vs interlocking rubber tiles? 1/2" or 3/4" thick? Volcanized or not?

So I went to pickup horse stall mats from my local tractor supply, and unfortunately they all have that horrid texturing on the top (despite the picture showing flat), so that is a no-go for me. At the moment, I only need to cover a 12'x8' space, so either something like 2 x 4'x12' rolls or 12 2'x2' interlocking tiles. Going on my concrete basement floor, which is epoxied. Planning to tape it down. I will be deadlifting on it.

Is 3/4" worth the extra cost, or is 1/2" already plenty? I see American flooring is recommended here. Their prices seem reasonable but their shipping is quite expensive (>$200) on rolled rubber and mats. Their tiles ship free but are pricey. All options are >$500 shipped; up to $750 if volcanized 3/4" rolled.

Gluck recommended Freedom Fitness as well. They only have 8mm rolls in stock, their matts are also expensive to ship, but their 3/4" interlocking tiles are actually pretty cheap- $270 shipped for 12. So that is a good bit more affordable than what I'm seeing for rolled rubber or shipped mats.

How are interlocking rubber tiles? I'm just a bit worried about the look of the connection and how it might look a bit cheap compared to rolled rubber.

Rubber coated grip plates?

https://preview.redd.it/krqep3i4dk1h1.jpg?width=1658&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2b6d3946ccd367c1afc7872a1088da5c78ba0f59

Just ordered a rack, barbell, and bench; now I just need to order weight. Planning to do a lot of SBD work, so I want plates that are easy to handle and are relatively thin. For some reason I had $1/lb in mind, but that doesn't seem possible even secondhand near me. I'm generally of the buy once cry once philosophy. I really do not want to have mix and matched plates in my gym, so I'd like to commit to one vendor.

Any other reputable rubber-coated plates out there at a better price point? I've seen Giant recommended as well, though they're only slightly cheaper. Looking at a crisp $1100 in weight from Rep...
