0cm dilated at 39W1D

Please be kind. I’m just looking for a place to vent and maybe hear others’ experiences if relevant. FTM, I’m 39W1D today and they said baby is measuring at 9lbs7oz. We did a cervical check to see if we could do a membrane sweep and my doctor said he could barely fit a finger in, therefore we can’t do the sweep.

Why am I feeling like a freakin’ failure and that my body isn’t progressing in the way it should? I obviously have zero experience and think that I allowed all the opinions and thoughts of others to shape my expectations because everyone told me I’d probably go into labor early, so just feeling so down that nothings happening.

I’m due on Tuesday and have an induction scheduled on Wednesday. I wanted to experience spontaneous labor which is why I was hoping for the membrane sweep.

Idk what I’m looking for here. Is it possible to be 0cm dilated at this point and still go into labor spontaneously by due date?

Stuck on delivery decision

Just had my last growth scan at 38W5D, they’re estimating she weighs 9lbs7oz. Head and femur are about average percentile but abdomen is 99th percentile.

I’m due next Tuesday, the 25th. My doctor really has no opinion/recommendation either way. I’ve read the ARRIVE trial and other studies and just am still not feeling very confident in making a decision of how to proceed.

I would really prefer to go into spontaneous labor and have a vaginal delivery with no pain medications/epidural, while also avoiding a C Section at all costs. i know there’s no way to fully guarantee that but I just want to make a decision that will be the closest at helping me follow that plan.

I asked to just keep things going for now and have them reach out to the hospital to get an indirection on the books for sometime next week after my due date. Is this a reasonable plan?

While I know there’s ultrasound estimates can be off she’s just going to keep growing and I’m fearful of needing a C Section.

If you’re in a similar boat, or have been, what was your experience? Were your measurements right? Were you able to deliver a big baby vaginally without any harm to baby?

Change in colostrum production

The first few days I started trying I was collecting a good bit of colostrum (up to 1-2ml a day). I started at 37W and had a good output for the whole week. I probably could have gotten more but was going easy the first few days.

The last 3 days after hitting 38W I’ve barely been able to get .2ml. Im doing exactly what I was doing before.

Why the sudden change? Has this happened to you? Any tips to increase collection again?

\*\*\*This isn’t a post to debate whether or not collecting colostrum is necessary. Only looking for input on why the sudden change may have occurred or if this has happened to you. Thanks!

38W1D - induction next week?

38W1D today and still haven’t had any contractions. Baby is head down but is still pretty high up. They’re scheduling me for another growth scan next week at 38W6D to see if we should discuss induction because she was already 7lbs11oz at my 36W scan.

I don’t think there’s anything wrong with the decision of induction. I think it’s a personal choice, and I really wanted to experience going into labor naturally (obviously unless induction is medically necessary). I’ve read that having a larger baby doesn’t really mean you need an induction medically…but looking for experiences there.

Anyone been in a similar position where it doesn’t seem like things are moving along, and still able to go into labor without induction? Maybe I’m getting ahead of myself - still have 2 weeks until due date.

COVID Vaccine and Miscarriage

I’m really curious to see what others who have suffered recurrent loss without any identifiable cause seem to think after information regarding texts from Anthony Fauci have come to light.

Allegedly he communicated concern about the COVID vaccine causing an increase of cytokines (something that is often tested in more extensive RPL workups and what causes high levels of inflammation) in pregnant woman who received the vaccine in the first trimester. Out of the 127 women who received the vaccine in the first or second trimester, 104 miscarried (82%).

I didn’t receive the vaccine while pregnant, but was forced (literally forced) to receive it when I attended college in 2021 or else they would disenroll you. Fast forward a year later, it wasn’t required anymore because information came out that it really wasn’t that effective. I then went on to have 4 miscarriages.

It’s always been a thought in the back of my head - wondering if my losses had anything to do with the vaccine since there was no way to know about it’s long term effects when it was being administered . Now that this has come to light, it makes me wonder if the vaccine potentially caused miscarriages in pregnant woman, could it also have some sort of long term affect and contribute to miscarriages later on in life?

This post isn’t to debate political stances. It’s simply to ask if others heard this information and wondered if it’s contributed to their losses (if you got the vaccine).

Edit: my #1 pet peeve of Reddit is when people find it necessary to post their unwanted opinions that have nothing to do with the topic or the questions posed in the original post. If this is you….look in the mirror and tell someone who cares. No body cares about your studies. This isn’t a debate about what is true or not, it’s a spot for women to discuss their experiences.

Colostrum

Might be really dumb questions but I’m a FTM and am new to the idea of collecting colostrum.

For Moms that collected colostrum before delivery - how much is a good amount to have stored in the event you need it to supplement the first few days? Do you bring your supply to the hospital with you?

The first day I tried I got only .1ml….I was still really proud 🤣 I have since figured out what I needed to do to express more and am getting 1ml a breast per 5 minute session. Might start upping to twice a day if need be? But not really sure how much is needed.

Thanks!

Positive for GSB

Just got the call that I’m positive for Group Strep B at my 36W visit.

Looking for some reassurance from Moms who tested positive and are on the other side.

I’ve had 4 miscarriages before this pregnancy, so safe to say I’m an anxious wreck and this doesn’t help.

I’m also allergic to penicillin. Has anyone received an alternative antibiotic that was effective?

Did antibiotics cause any issues for your baby?

Questions to ask of things to consider when exploring daycares?

First time Mom due in August. I’m a school psychologist in a public school so no paid family leave - but I am staying home until February.

Starting to explore daycare options for when I return to work.

Most of the options available near us are more home-based daycare settings - so a licensed provider operating out of their home with a handful of other kiddos. Should we seek more established centers instead?

What are questions I should be asking/factors I should be considering when I’m looking at and interviewing daycare providers?

I’m a nervous wreck thinking about leaving my 5 month old with someone. We unfortunately don’t have family that can help in this capacity. I have a general idea of what to ask/look for but don’t wanna overlook things I might not be considering.

If it wasn’t for the fact I have to pay for the full premium for our healthcare insurance while out on leave ($2500/month) we could afford to have me stay out longer…

Thanks for the insight/advice from those who may have already experienced this!

Buying off the registry

Please help me understand. What am I missing…..

Why do the majority of guests buy things that aren’t on the registry?

I don’t mean to sound ungrateful at all - but genuinely did not expect this many people to ignore the registry. It’s not even like they saved money - people who left the tag or receipt behind (which was very few so we can’t even return things we aren’t fond of) are more expensive than some of the items I had listed on the registry.

I’ve seen a lot of other posts of women dealing with this so I know it’s not just me…but what is the psychology behind this?! Why?! 😂
