Operation Save Stefan!

Stefan is at Bradshaw Shelter on a final plea. If no one rescues him he will be put to sleep. Just look at that face. He needs a chance.

I would go get him myself but I’m full! I just rescued my own final plea dog 3 mos ago. She’s amazing and fun and I adore her. Please please someone go rescue Stefan! He deserves a soft spot to enjoy life. If you can’t adopt can you share?

Go save Stefan

This poor pup is facing euthanasia at Bradshaw Shelter. Can you save him? He’s been there too long and needs a soft safe spot. I’d take him in if I could!

Tommy Wiseau! Saw him at the Tower Theatre in Sacramento tonight. Saw him at Laemmle Theatres in LA 20+ years ago . What do you think of this exercise in pop culture?

Was he ever in on the joke? I don’t really think so. Did he create some kind of masterpiece? What do you think? The Room is in a class of its own.

Spoon!

Welcome Home Gertie 🥰 - Rescue Success

I saw a post on Reddit that there were several dogs on the euthanasia list at my local Shelter. It was a general city Reddit - I wasn’t even looking for a rescue dog! But I loved her name and felt for her situation, so I took a peek at Gertie’s listing online.

The videos of her in a playgroup interacting with dogs and people did not match the comments about her being a “concern for human safety” and possibly best “as an only dog.” She was scheduled for euthanasia on May 1st (Fri) per the Reddit post.

I couldn’t stop thinking about her and her goofy smile.

By some miracle she was still at the shelter on May 2nd when I was off work. I later learned a kind volunteer bought Gertie 5 more days by pleading for this loving dog who had been misunderstood and mis-labeled at the price of her life. She wasn’t aggressive, she was stressed, and a flat-faced breed snorts under stress. It’s not growling!

With my husband’s reluctant blessing, I took our most discerning pack member - our sweet coonhound - to the shelter to meet Gertie. The shelter staff all knew who she was just by name … I had to wait for a supervisor to meet her.

When I arrived at the outdoor enclosure to see Gertie, I feel a little confused. She’s just a snorty wiggly tank of a dog. Puppy energy. Stress panting. She’s a little stinky, and riled up. Her tail is out of control wagging.
I sat down, tried to stay calm, and petted her. She did a doggy sploot on the ground…

I just didn’t see it. Where was the aggression? I asked the supervisor for her thoughts. She said “I don’t see it either.” She nudged Gertie on the ground softly with her boot. No reaction - not even a look. Unbothered Sploot Queen.

We took Gertie to meet my coonhound. This was the true test, my hound pup doesn’t mess around. It was such a non-event. No signs of aggression, no growls or prickly backs.

I knew I was taking a chance but it felt like a chance worth taking. My husband said “we don’t need another dog” and I said “yes, but this dog needs us.” The deal was done as fast as he rolled his eyes. We adopted Gertie that day.

We had to wait to bring her home (so she could be spayed) and it’s now been 8 days since Gertie joined us. We have been careful not to underestimate her, or do too much too soon. We have started with a slow introduction. Yet…

Each day she’s more mellow. She has three modes, playful, being sweet, or just laying on the floor. She loves our other dogs and they like her. It’s so nice to watch her decompress. Her snores are the cutest thing! We are giving her some basic training, being gentle, and not asking too much of her to start. I know things can always change and we are in it for the long haul.

Anyway, you guys… i just wanted to share this great thing that happened to my family. This little baby dog is SO SWEET!!! I don’t think all euthansia list adoptions are so successful right at the first week. She’s an amazing girl and we just love her already. It feels like she’s always been here. Sure, she’s not perfect - peed on the floor a couple times and chewed a few unapproved items… it’s ok, we’ll get there.

Check out these photos. Real concern for human safety here! 😆😂🥰 I’m sooo glad I listened to my instincts and we gave Gertie a chance. My husband completely adores her and she belongs here 💕 thanks for letting me share the rescue story!

I had a phone call with a family member today and they made some negative comments about Muslims that surprised me. I texted them later asking about it. What the heck are they talking about? When I google it, I only get articles about Islamophobia (seems about right). Is there any factual basis for this? What would make a person think this? The only takeover I’m personally seeing is that of Christian Nationalism. Thoughts?
