Also I added in the Creature back there, because why not...

Joni Mitchell: "You Turn Me On, I'm A Radio" (US#25, 1972)

Joni's "radio song" was believed to have been partly inspired by the story of Alison Steele, who was the first female DJ in America to have a regular show on a major commercial station.

Steele's introduction to her show:
"The flutter of wings, the shadow across the moon, the sounds of the night, as the Nightbird spreads her wings and soars, above the earth, into another level of comprehension, where we exist only to feel. Come, fly with me, Alison Steele, the Nightbird, at WNEW-FM, until dawn."

"Being a Short Diversion on the Dubious Origins of The Beatles: Translated from the John Lennon" (Mersey Beat, July 6, 1961)

In the Summer of 1961, The Beatles were one of many bands who were popular among Liverpool's teenagers. John Lennon and Stu Sutcliffe were art school friends with a young writer named Bill Harry, who started a low-budget music newspaper to serve the growing music scene, The Mersey Beat.

Issue 1 included this essay by John Lennon. Future contributors to the paper included Paul McCartney and Brian Epstein.
