PSA: Manna Foodbank, the regional WNC food hub, says donations are down by 24%
Hi all, just a PSA regarding Manna Foodbank, who does absolutely incredible work for our community. Their summer newsletter mentions this:
"Today, a $10 gift to MANNA helps provide 16 meals.
This change reflects today's environment - not a change in our mission. The need for food assistance has reached historic levels, with more than 220,000 monthly visits across MANNA's network, while donated food from many traditional sources has declined. In just two years, food support has decreased by 24%, while MANNA's purchased food pounds have increased by 156% and food purchasing costs have risen by 142% to meet the growing conditions."
I'm not affiliated with them, but encourage anyone who can afford it to consider donating $10 (or more) monthly. You can donate food as well, but food banks can purchase food at wholesale prices, so it actually makes more sense to donate money vs stuff you're buying at retail prices from the grocery store (although that is gratefully accepted as well, in addition to fresh garden produce).
They can also always use volunteers.
BTW if you are in need of any kind, please also check out their website as they have many connections to all kinds of services.
